- Make a Simple Cheap Hot Tent Wood Stove - DIY - I build a Hot Tent Wood Stove using some cheap materials I picked up at my local hardware store. Total cost of this simple cheap tent wood stove build was less than $50. those legs need a flat foot so they dont sink into the ground or punch a hole in the bottom of the tent ... a basic t shape with a swivel pin using a bolt would work perfect ... and of course add a drop in shelf across the cross bars front to back to keep the stove from melting the tent floor and use a food warmer ... or cheese melter
This is why I like TH-cam so much. There is something very satisfying to make something useful with your own hands and save money at the same time.

Lonnie has a great channel. I've seen a couple of his videos over the years but never really looked deeper into his channel until recently. lol I built my Ice tent wood burner using two 10' deep steam trays... I put a smoke shelf in mine something I have not see anyone do or show on FB it really is a must yes you lose heat faster with just a Flu but you also creat allot more creosote in your flue without a smoke shelf and that is one of the biggest causes of fire in flu. with the shelf the ashes also fall on the smoke shelf and allot of the creosote will build on the smoke shelf first making it easier to clean. for people that do not know DO NOT burn pine in a stove. I even stay away from lumber Pine will build uo creosote 10 times faster that hardwood ... GOOD JOB on stove BTW I use to be a chimney sweep and chimney/fireplace repairman also you can put a couple small bricks in their on bottom they will hold heat for a bit longer if you are sleeping and your wood burns out. I set an alarm in my ent to add wood at night every 2-1/2 hrs but the bricks help allot

I need something half the size for my Sienna soccer van! Interesting concept and yes the door needs a latch that does not need welding gloves to open when hot. Forgot about the baffle but when the tome comes to build mine I will put it in so the 2" chimney will work just as well as yours.

Молодец, хорошо 👍делаешь, но надо толщину нержавейки брать 1,5мм -дно, стенки, перед и зад печи, а на верх 3мм тогда долго прослужит!, а эта щаржавет и прогорит жестянка- -0,5года и выбросишь! А длина и ширина и высота классная!!!! Нержавейка не магнитная (медицинская 👍🤝🙏👏👏👏👏✊✌👌!!!) из России с уважением за труд и продуманность только металл нержавейка.

Thank you Drop Point! I would too, I may see if I can source some old appliance metal to do a project like that. This stove was an experiment and the tin is quite thin so I don't know what the lifespan will be. I will find out over time and use. I do think the design is a winner because the stove seems to work great so far. Thanks for stopping by!

yep swivel feet on the bottom of the legs would be a good idea ... then the stove doesnt sink into the ground ... or punch holes in the tent and can even be placed on logs or uneven ground ... also the shelf on the legs cross members would act as a heat shield for the bottom of the tent and a food warmer if the tray has a back and side that slide along the bottom of the stove with a piano hinged front door that folds down would make a stove for baking things like bread and pizza ... or roasts etc ...

btw you can airtight seal the edges easy ... the inner side gets a u bend and the piece that goes into that gets a j bend so it goes over the top of the u down its side and back up the other side part way ... then hammer tight and you have sealed the side ... just like a can ...

Give it a try my friend. It's a pretty simple project and I know you could easily make one. I just don't know how the thin metal will hold up but we'll find out eventually. Don't use galvanized steel to build a stove it will release poisonous gas when heated, if you can't find anything else Sand it down on all surfaces to remove the finish.
It's not a problem using galvanized steel to build a stove. Just burn the stove outside in open air a couple of times before you use it in a tent. No sanding necessary. This is common practice in Alaska and they know how to use stoves in Alaska.

I think it would be easier to use house ventilation , square metal to make an iron box at Menards with a rivet gun and tin snips. much easier and the box is already made for you ,plus the metal is thicker and will last longer. All you need to do is add a door and a back with hole for chimney. TOOLS: A rivet gun and rivets , tin snips , 18 inch one by one board , Hammer and a tape measure with black permanent marker. Also for the legs you will need 8 washers 4 bolts and 4 nuts. You can get a 1 inch by 6 feet aluminum thin square bar you can cut and bend for the legs at Menards. They have ALL the stuff there for the whole stove. EASY wood stove for the fish house or any other space you want to heat like your garage. Heat up stove 1st try outside to burn off stainless steel finish before you put this in any area.

What kind of lifespan do folks get from these kinds of wood stove builds? I know that's going to be wildly variable, but I was just schooled in the physics of stoves by a very helpful and seemingly neutral (he was talking straight science) guy at a stove shop. Seemed like thin stainless would wear out pretty quickly. Sounded like nothing but the very high grade steel (newly made) will last years. Refurbs of those already last much shorter. Safety also seems to be a much more sensitive issue than I thought with these things and proximity to the heat outside the stove.
Looks interesting but doesn't galvanized metal give off toxic fumes when it gets hot? I'd be concerned about that.

Maybe soaking the sheets in vinegar before assembly would be better to remove the zink...
Can you make one of these where the bottom of the floor at the door doesn’t have a lip? That way it would be easier to clean ashes. You could just pull the ashes out without having to go over a lip.

I like the design but hope you didn't get zinc poisoning from the galvanized tin
No zinc poisoning if you burn it off before putting it in a tent.
Ordinary black stovepipe would be a much better choice. Would last longer as it’s meant heat galvanized is not 😮meant for high temperatures. A narrow tall fire box is the most efficient for convention and will allow for a longer lasting fire

Hi, I also made a similar stove, with small differences. What kind of chimney do you use? my chimney entrance is 8.5 cm in diameter, and I can't find such small tubes in diameter. Do you have any idea how to solve this? thanks
Hello, I used 4 inch duct pipe for the chimney on my stove. I really do't know where to find 8.5 cm pipe. If you made your stove I would just make the chimney entrance capable of using a common pipe you can find near where you live.

Hi Nico, I noticed your comment is a couple of years old, but if you go to the hardware store and get a roll of steel that you can open up and roll the opposite way for a chimney, that you can secure with a couple of hose clamps, You could have the pipe any size you wanted.
And when you were done with it at the end of the trip, you could easily just roll it back up The way it was originally rolled, put a couple of rubber bands around it, and carry it back home in your stove.
One useful tip might be to Do the first on rolling at home on the floor, where it’s nice and warm, with a couple of Friends or family members to help you out, To prevent you from getting any weird little kinks and dents in it.
After the first one or two times that it has to be on, rolled to make it into a chimney, it doesn’t seem quite so fragile after that.
I hope this helps, but I figure you’ve probably already got a solution found.

About 12" but I extended them since to about 18".
How did you do the measurements for the ends

Do you know there is a big difference between HVAC air handler tin duct and single wall stove exhaust pipe? Big difference... expect the HVAC thin guage to burn out from fire high temperatures in the first season... wrong material for fire service. Report back on how many hours it lasted. Be safe... burning off zinc coating is toxic!

This zinc plating metal is very bad for your health in the time of burning....
Sorry but I just have to point out something here. Great job on the stove but there is a big problem using galvanized metal. When heating galvanized metal, like the using HVAC duct for stove pipe, the zinc vaporizes and creates toxic fumes which can cause metal fume fever. You can get very sick from it. Galvanized metal should NOT BE USED for a woodstove. Just a comment, don't get mad at me for it, do your own research and just carry on and do what you will......
I've had no problem using galvanized metal on my wood stove as long as you burn off the galvanization out in open air prior to using the stove in an enclosed space. Once the galvanization is burnt off you can use the stove without any worries about any zinc fumes. At least this has been my experience.
