Not everyone finds Hollywood life appealing. Fame and fortune has it's down side including everyone being in your business and having to live in a dog and pony show at all times! Many people choose to leave the dog and pony show, realizing that a normal life of anonymity is preferable to having to always be "ON" and get out as fast as they can! Kudos to them!!!

You are right. The ability to realize that the characters portrayed are not the actual actors character seems to be lost in space where too many people have gone before. I think most of these actors simply aged out, especially in an industry where youth & beauty are god. Talent is secondary. Plus, one has to have a really thick skin to be able to have staying power in this industry/Hollywood, against all the various types of abuse & evil rampant in the dream factory business. A very destructive field of work. Many turn their backs on this career because of that alone. Those who remain & survive it, are either incorruptible but so obviously mega-talented that the industry needs them more than they need the industry, corrupted, subdued, sold their souls for it, etc, but not a single one has not compromised themselves in some way to be able to stay there longterm. For some it would have been/are worth it, others have given their all and lost all. Especially themselves.
It's even better when you have your own land, grow your own fresh fruit and vegetables. Bake your own breads, cakes and pies, soups and stews. Simple is best.

I've never been sad over an actress or actor retiring. I don't even watch tv anymore. I only watch a few shows .There never will be a shortage of actors. The problem is the cancellation of good shows and a lack of quality movies.
It’s probably because of a dearth of good screenplays. Hollywood is more interested in profits than quality film making. They make prequels, sequels, reboots, remakes, etc rather than take on an original script of good quality, because it’s safer to ensure profits with more of the same old crap. That’s why most Hollywood studio films suck; the best films tend to be independent or foreign.
I agree...some became too old to be cast any longer, some (like Lark Voorhies) had medical problems (like bipolar disorder) compounded by horrific plastic surgery outcomes, some just gave it up for personal reasons (like family), and some were totally blackballed when Hollywood became a political institution instead of an acting venue! MANY of the younger ones were victimized by old producer-director predators and simply ran away from the evil.

Sometimes you just wanna change things up. You hear a lot of celebs say fame isn't all it's cut out to be so I can understand some of them just bowing out gracefully. Then some just get caught up in the lifestyle and get addicted to drugs and alcohol. That can affect your career and reputation along with your relationships.
Couldn't have said it better myself. It seems like even if you make millions you get caught up with drugs and alcohol or both. Then you lose you house or divorce and you end up in rehab or jail or worse even homeless and or broke. Remember everyone is fighting their own demons. If you had a drug problem before you became famous now your just a famous person with a drug problem.

For example, there's Gale Gordon who was known as an Emmy nominated actor/comedian as well as an narrator, author, painter and rancher. He made us laugh, cry, shine, smile and most of all, care over the years. On many things, Gale has a variety of tastes and interests were kept focused even better from 1933 until 1993. I was an great fan of his and he brings many great qualities to the world better than anyone else. He can do it all. He's never being afraid to show off because I love him very much. Sadly he died at his home in California in 1995 when he was 89. I'll be watching many of Gale's stuff on TV 'cause that's the least I can do. And so Gale, thanks for the love, laughter, joy, tears and gratitude you gave us for many years. RIP.

I think most of these actors simply aged out, especially in an industry where youth & beauty are god. Talent is secondary. Plus, one has to have a really thick skin to be able to have staying power in this industry/Hollywood, against all the various types of abuse & evil rampant in the dream factory business. A very destructive field of work. Many turn their backs on this career because of that alone. Those who remain & survive it, are either incorruptible but so obviously mega-talented that the industry needs them more than they need the industry, corrupted, subdued, sold their souls for it, etc, but not a single one has not compromised themselves in some way to be able to stay there longterm. For some it would have been/are worth it, others have given their all and lost all. Especially themselves.
I'm telling you all, there is something to be said for just living a simple, humble, down to earth life.😀
It's even better when you have your own land, grow your own fresh fruit and vegetables. Bake your own breads, cakes and pies, soups and stews. Simple is best.

I've never been sad over an actress or actor retiring. I don't even watch tv anymore. I only watch a few shows .There never will be a shortage of actors. The problem is the cancellation of good shows and a lack of quality movies.
It’s probably because of a dearth of good screenplays. Hollywood is more interested in profits than quality film making. They make prequels, sequels, reboots, remakes, etc rather than take on an original script of good quality, because it’s safer to ensure profits with more of the same old crap. That’s why most Hollywood studio films suck; the best films tend to be independent or foreign.
A lot of these actors and actresses are well loved by the world wether they decided to continue acting or not.

I agree...some became too old to be cast any longer, some (like Lark Voorhies) had medical problems (like bipolar disorder) compounded by horrific plastic surgery outcomes, some just gave it up for personal reasons (like family), and some were totally blackballed when Hollywood became a political institution instead of an acting venue! MANY of the younger ones were victimized by old producer-director predators and simply ran away from the evil.

Sometimes you just wanna change things up. You hear a lot of celebs say fame isn't all it's cut out to be so I can understand some of them just bowing out gracefully. Then some just get caught up in the lifestyle and get addicted to drugs and alcohol. That can affect your career and reputation along with your relationships.
Couldn't have said it better myself. It seems like even if you make millions you get caught up with drugs and alcohol or both. Then you lose you house or divorce and you end up in rehab or jail or worse even homeless and or broke. Remember everyone is fighting their own demons. If you had a drug problem before you became famous now your just a famous person with a drug problem.
