MSalut a tous. Et je demande pardon pour mes erreurs
Pour ceux qui aimeraient bien chanter la partie en malien, voici les paroles : "anw mounou be dougou baw la , dougou niw la , an ka na gnina gnonkon ko de. anw mounou be ni kogne na , ni kogne na , an chi te ni kogne tchoko don . anw mounou be dougou djan la , dougou niw la , an ka na gnina gnonkon ko de."
Amadou, Mariam, Manu Chao!
Listening to this beatiful song with it's entoxicating rythm and harmonies and suddenly discovering that my body is moving to the music, sitting in my chair in front of my laptop. That doesn't happen to often. My word, what a performance!
what I love about this song is you can distinctly hear both artist's styles. They both compliment each other perfectly and this phenomenon should be repeated many times to come!! Please!?
I had no idea Manu Chao was singing most of this song!! I just discovered his music a week ago and love it! I started listening to Amadou and Mariam about 8 years ago when I was painting houses and it made the day go by much better :)) I love seeing some of what I think is Dakar (Senegal) and/or Bamako(Mali).
For English fellows who likes this song, here is the meaning : this song is actually pretty sad. It is the story of a men in Mali whos getting married and he's dreaming to fly away to "paradise" with his wife, wich is European countries. Hes trying to get a visa to go work there. But as you can see, they all wait in line to get a visa with words like "Maybe", "Waiting" and "Hope" written on their body but they mostly all get refused. He even consult a sorcerer with his shells to know if he will be able to travel there. So the guy in the video decides to leave his wife and his country behind and to cross the border by himself even without papers. Thats why at the end you see him getting arrested by French police officers (you can see the orange armband of the french police officers at the end) when they ask him for his paper. The wife is sad and he will be deported to Mali. Sorry for my english, j'adore cette chanson :)
Thanks for the interpretation! Yeah I picked up 'cinema of Paris' and 'what time is it in paradise?'. I don't get the reference to Dakar, Senegal though (and also Manhattan), if the guys is from Mali and went to France?!
Best song ever ! Sad but real and meaningful - giving the circumstances we would ALL do the same - wake up people and realize where your comfort is coming from
