      It was lots of fun Jason. I did give my local club a heads up on the time of the activation. That helped. I also picked up several stations that were not club related. If you can get some elevation give it a try. K-2173 Is my local home park. 30 miles away. Its also a level 1 for sota. I'll be doing some 6M stuff this summer. Later Steve Ad4xt

    Great video, Steve! Looks like 2M simplex works great up on Pine Mountain.

    "I'm giving her all she's got, Captain!" OK, I'm a geek, but that made me laugh out loud.

    I call on simplex in north NJ all the time and don't get much back. Trying to bring it back here, might give this a try since I have a lot of state parks by me.

    Nice video. I'm new to POTA and radio in general. I didn't know that people activated on 2M.

      Yes you can. As long as you are not using a repeater. Radio to radio. Simplex.
      It's very popular with the SOTA guys as they always on a good hilltop and they only need 4 contacts. Hope to catch you from a park sometime.

    Really nice! If I did that in my QTH state of New Jersey on 2M call, the only thing I would hear is crickets.

      Going portable is a lot like fishing. You just never know.
      Find a hilltop and give it a go. Let your local club know when
      you will be on the air. Lots of hams have 146.520 on scan.
      Good luck.

    • @hamradioportable1630
      @hamradioportable1630  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use my Bioenno 20Ah battery for all my activations.
      I plan to purchase one a bit smaller that i can hike with.
      thanks for watching.

    Great video, Steve! That antenna is technically a "Slim Jim" J-pole variant. Here's the link to the instructions we used for our antenna build - www.hamuniverse.com/ke4nu450slimjim.html

    The roll up dipole is a a great antenna but there is ZERO GAIN! A handheld 3 element Yagi on a short mast or tripod flat kicks it’s butt.
    PS: it’s a mic not a hot potato.
