  • Working on a Pride Mobility Jazzy Select Power Chair that has an issue with the on /off switch failing. The switch uses conductive membrane and these are subject to failure, often they can be cleaned and returned to service but sometimes the conductive membrane pad can be replaced

    Mine wouln't go ON. I used spray contact cleaner on the circuit board contact area, wiped it clean , reassembled and it is now back in service working perfectly. Takes less than 30 minutes. Helpful video! Thanks!

    Mahalo, I posed the question, "what type of screw holds the throttle chassis. Joystick potentiometer of Pride 7 motorized w/c?" Two days 2hrs. Looking before sidetracked. Thank you. You named the tool and demonstrated so well.

    Great video!! Thanks!! Do you by chance know anything about the Gimbal unit? (The actual joystick itself) I was twisting the rubber/plastic knob off of mine to replace the boot and I think I've done something now because it will not spring back to center.....

    • @neuromanglers
      @neuromanglers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not had that issue. I believe they use hall effect sensors internally, have looked inside a few but do not remember how the spring return to center is set up. Monster Scooter parts is a great source for parts and advice

    Is it possible to remove the horn from the circuit board without affecting the operation of the machine or will the machine stop working once it is removed

    • @neuromanglers
      @neuromanglers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there would be no issue with removing the horn, except for the liability aspects

    Thank you for the tutorial. I was given a Jazzy Select and thought I'd play with it. No charger so I'm charging batts seperately (gel). The joystick is missing the on/off horn pad assy. I'm wondering if these switches are merely press to activate. Your buttons look like they are just rubber and press the circuit board switches. Am I correct ?

    • @neuromanglers
      @neuromanglers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the switches are just conductive rubber pads that when pressed they provide continuity between a matrix of traces on a pcb
      Monster parts sells those pad assemblies and they are about $5 the last one I purchased

      @@neuromanglers Thanks for the information. Thanks to inflation they are now $18.99. First I've some cleaning of the circuit board as someone attempted to glue it prior. One battery now charged and the other is now on the charger.Cost of new/rebuilt joystick Assy. way too much, but I will continue to try to resurrect this.

      good luck with it. I have found many of these power chairs offered for free on CL, folks just want to get rid of them..the batteries seem to last just to the warranty....they have that dialed in tight

      @@neuromanglers Thanks again for your replys. I've cleaned the circuit board and housing. Now I'm wondering if without the rubber button assy if I can merely touch the traces to actuate it ? or is there metalic on the underside of the rubber buttons ? I guess once the other battery is charged I'll reassemble it and experiment. These traces are new to me and I also am wondering if a gum wrapper or tin foil would work just to turn it on ?

    • @neuromanglers
      @neuromanglers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The underside of the buttons have a rubberized conductive pad.. you can use most anything conductive to bridge the conductive matrix but be careful not to damage the traces as they are thin and fragile.
      That conductive switch pad is often the reason the unit does not power up

    I have a Jazzy Scooter that I plugged in the charger and I push the green button on the joy stick and Im not getting no lights to come on. Both lights on the charger come on. But the charger use to get real warm when it was charging but it seems cool when I was trying to charge the scooter. Do I need a new charger and new batteries?

    • @neuromanglers
      @neuromanglers  ปีที่แล้ว

      The batteries fail often...most just after the warranty expires....they have that down to a science so I would test the batteries first, since the charger is not as prone to fail. A voltmeter would quickly let you know what is wrong. You may also have poor conductivity in the switches...that is also very common to have both issues.. ..bad batteries and contaminated switch

    I just received a used elite select mobility scooter for my husband with this controller. It appears that the charging port is melted some. I have used this video to get the controller opened but I am not certain how to get the port out or even if I can get a replacement port. Help!

      Nearly any good repair shop can order the part, or you can get it from the manufacturer, and I have even ordered several from good sellers on Ebay. Never had a issue. Good luck.

      Do you know the history of the machine? Was it like that when you obtained it ? Seems very odd that it would fail in that way but I could see how it could happen if it was worked on
      Even if there is only one connector, you can still swap the pins in the connector and swap the wiring.
      It might also be done with a programer that is used to set up the limits and parameters of the chair

      I have had so many mobility batteries fail soon after the one year warranty period, regardless of how the battery is used....that I have started to wonder if the battery manufacturer has perfected the chemical process to the point where the battery is basically a clock counting down the year.
