    Opt, 1 mana cleans up draws, just so efficient. I very much prefer opt in these combo decks as opposed to a draw go archetype such as blue white control in which case omen could be useful late game. If given the chose I will pick opt it’s half the mana.

    Omen of the Sea > Opt, the value of the scrying 2x2 is much more significant, esp in temur with reclamation because of the abundance of mana. just try omen of the sea and you will realize ist value. another Card People are underestimating atm is "thirst of meaning", it should replace at least some chemisters insights in controll decks because it lets you dig through your deck much faster and fuels the Escape mechanic (esp. for uro)

    I would say if your playing a control/devotion deck go with omen. If your going with a combo/agro deck go with opt as with control as long as your pacing is good your fine and omen is good for devotion. With combo and agro it's slightly to slow even though that one card might get you to your combo a card faster I find that I am mostly constrained on mana when I try and play it.

  • @Kavou

    You can sacrifice omen of the see aswell if you have nothing better to do with mana with Reclamation, I personally prefer Opt, always will.

  • @davidrivera433
    @davidrivera433 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like Omen because you can bounce it with Teferi to get the card back and get another scry 2 and draw a card. You essentially get multi-use out of it vs the one time use of Opt. You have the option to sacrifice if needed as well if you're out of mana and in need of the scry as a last resort.

    This is a video I really relate to, because this is my main deck on Arena! When THB got spoiled I noriced that the two main additions to the deck were Thassa's intervention and Storm's Wrath. I still play 2 Niv-Mizzets though and no Uro's. For this reason, I strongly prefer opt; I did not even consider the omen as a replacement there. I had a game where I was empty-handed and deadonboard to an opponent's attack, and survived only thanks to the Opt triggering Niv to draw a Scorching dragonfire.
    Youalso mention Ndgate, I play 2 mainboard and one more in the side, and it is still a very solid part of the deck that I just don't want to replace.

    I feel like its situational and mainly preference (on opt vs. omen) but in the situation right after you asked about it, you cast both your ops diggin so maybe since the actual cantrip doesn't affect anything (prowess, ect.) the extra scry is worth it? idk LOL awesome vid as always CGB!

  • @brynmorgan9356

    Wilderness rek often leaves you with extra mana for the second scry effect on omen. Pretty handy against control decks, I guess in bo1 opt is faster and fills your graveyard sooner for uro.

    Although opt can be argued as the better card, I think it’s not as good as omen of the sea in this deck. Omen gets to observe up to 5 cards and it’s important to find your pieces to make this deck.

    • @peter_dubs

    I've been playing through some events with this deck and I'm liking the omen more than opt. Looking two deep gives so much utility and I think it being twice the cost is well worthwhile and it gives that extra scry later on is quite valuable in place of, or in addition to, the castle. Right now I'm running 2 opts and 2 omens but I might go all in on omens.
    Also, I totally underestimated the value of Uro at first, but he totally saves the day against aggro most of the time. To anyone considering this deck for BO1, I wholeheartedly endorse it. It takes a bit to figure out how to properly run it but once you have it, you can get 7 wins in constructed consistently. If only storms wrath was an instant, this deck would be near unstoppable.

    Opt for me is better. Costs 1 less, fills the graveyard for uro really quickly and has almost same effect as omen. Sure you can sacrifice omen to scry later in the game, but you already have castle vantress for that. I see omen vs opt as a close call, but opt being slightly better when you really need to draw especially early in the game or vs really aggressive strategies when you want to double spell to keep up their pace. In this deck I'd go opt, other builds i like omen more.

  • @alypiusloft
    @alypiusloft 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe go halfsies with omen and opt? You have the possibility of early, mid, and late game scrys that aren’t insignificant, not to mention the ability to sac omen for a draw. You have good card advantage and ramp already with UG card (can’t remember that card name right now lol). Plus, you won’t have so many useless opts chiming into your scry and card draw actions. You’ll be more likely get a double scry with omen or a card you need.

    Omen in this particular list I think is better in terms of overall value, the ability to flash in omen of the sea during a wilderness rec end step, and being able to scry 2 in your opponents end step to further set up draws is huge. Opt is better in the case of you also running Niv-Mizzet, as it is then essentially draw, scry, draw with Niv out, but because of the lack of Niv I'd say Omen is better. Wilderness Rec often relies upon Castle Vantress to set up perfect draws, having Omen does this for less than half the mana.

    Temur rec. is a powerful deck, but sadly it is not that good in bo1 because of it's slow nature and awkward mana-base.
    Personally I like opt better than omen of the sea, but I can see both sides. You can cast opt on turn one and leave up spots in your two drops. However, omen of the sea is more effective in the late game and is better in enchantment based decks. In the temur rec. deck opt is better because omen of the sea clashes with growth spiral and other two drops. In the end, it depends which deck your playing to determine which card is better.

    At 13:00 you have 14 damage, not 10... 4 lands untapped, two reclamations untapping 7 lands - mathgic the gathering!
    I've never been completely happy with opt in reclamation - you're running three colours with no check lands, often want to tapland turn 1, shock in for a growth spiral turn 2, and there aren't as many upsides to opt - you're often not going to be double-spelling with it on turn 2-4, and after that you (hopefully) have so much mana that it doesn't matter. Haven't rebuilt since Theros came out but omen has been working great in esper so will make it into my version of the deck.

    I appreciate that you make TH-cam exclusive content. I love hanging with you on Twitch as well, but YT and Twitch have a different approach towards user interaction. Uploaded VODs from Twitch feel pretty unprofessional in a lot of cases and that's not what the CGB we know and love is :)

    Omen of the Sea.
    1) devotion
    2) better scry
    3) future utility
    4) gives you a fluff permanent to sack to doom foretold.

      @@Obversechaos there may have been some broken U cards, but they're not control cards....... 3feri isn't a control card, he's anti-control. Oko just had U in his cost so jund couldn't play him (well, not easily at least). But as far as a good control card, we've no good cantrips, draw spells, or counter spells.

    Another point for omen is it's a permanent if you want to fight through doom foretold

  • @wtsoder
    @wtsoder 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In general, I would choose Omen over Opt right now unless my deck cared about instants/sorceries. I think omen's ability to see more cards and give you additional value later definitely makes it a competitive choice. It can also provide corner case upside like a permanent vs doom foretold, rebuying it with t3f, etc. The meta feels slow enough to accommodate a two-drop with the extra scry later in decks that want that kind of effect.
