  • iPad Air 13" brings the gap between Air and Pro closer than ever but maintains a hefty price difference of $500! Since both tablets work with the new Apple Pencil Pro, why even bother with the Pro model? Here's how to decide which one you should buy.

So many TH-camrs are obsessed with turning the iPad into a Mac. It’s refreshing to see someone who appreciates the iPad for being a tablet. Those same people who want macOS on the iPad say the MacBook Air is only for casual users, yet say the iPads with smaller batteries and worse thermals should be running software that would challenge a high end MacBook Pro. The vast majority of software on all platforms do not challenge the full power of any modern CPU.

But there's more than one different type of an iPad. Okay a $500 iPad mini or whatever and a $350 iPad base model those are perfectly good devices for what they are. Even if you had some storage upgrades or 5G or whatever. But people spending well over 2K for an iPad Pro with a terabyte or more of storage and a $350 keyboard and so on... That device like that with a name like Pro should not limit you from downloading apps outside the Apple Play store. It should support dual monitors or at least a legitimate external monitor support not stage manager. It should allow proper desktop extensions. Unlock etc.....
You should have a proper file manager.
I don't want them to turn $500 iPads into Mac but $2,000 device should be able to do the professional work that you would expect on a $2,000 device.
And I really just don't understand why Apple seems to hate artist that needs stylus but also desktop extensions

@@michaelcorcoran8768 I think this is all in due time tbh. I think we want everything now, and even though Apple is the richest Company, it doesn't make sense to pour all resources into things that may or may not work out. I think they have a vision, but also want to incorporate some of our ideas into that vision. This takes time. After all, no one is being FORCED to buy an iPad, and some people are acting like that's exactly what's happening.

I think in an ideal world, there is room for both a tablet and laptop in any professional work flow. To some people, it’s not worth the extra money… which is fair. But for me, I appreciate the control I have over the operating system in a Mac, and I appreciate how a tablet is more convenient for 80% of tasks I use them both for. The iPad can also be an external display for my Mac when needed, so there’s definitely room for both products in some peoples lives.

But iPad is more physically flexible than a Mac, and I love that.

About a week before Apple announced their new iPads, I upgraded my second gen iPad Pro (10.5") to a fifth gen iPad Air (M1) and it is interesting to me how close they are (thus far) in terms of performance. I don't even notice the loss of Pro Motion, but I do more drawing than gaming on it anyways. In any case, Pro's have a future-proofing to them if a 7 year old Pro can hold up against a then-current model of Air, so it's still a sound investment. My only concern with the newest Pros is thermals. Something about the newest processor in a slimmer chassis gives me pause, though I look forward to seeing your hands-on demo with the device when you get to it.

Ill go for basic iPad Pro 13(my personal reasons are two: the display with Pro Motion and power efficiency so I can work on it even in 3D packages like the ZBrush) ... if I compare it with Air 13, it is, even for its very high ammount of money, much more efficient price because with this enormous performance it is the investment for really long time. I dare to say it si possible for this device to keep up without any gui or perfomance lagging for longer then 7-8 years. In other words: lets imagine how much money you will spend for lower end iPads if so ... because you have to buy at least two of them.

But I'm curious to see what might happen software/OS wise in Junes event before I make the choice. If it's meh, I'll just get the air with the pro pencil... I've been wanting a new iPad for a while now since I inherited my husband's iPad Air 2 when he upgraded to the iPad Pro in 2020 from what I recall. Been debating between the Air and Pro and considering I want to have it for a while, I feel like it makes more sense to get the Pro, especially with the OLED screen. And because it's using the newest chip, it future proofs me for quite some time

To me the big attraction for the iPad Pro M4 is the 120Hz Tandem OLED display which when paired with an AirPod Max gives you a great portable and private home theater. If you don’t need that I am thinking the iPad Air is plenty good for TH-cam PLUS it works with the current Magic Keyboard so you don’t need to buy a new one. You can also get the Apple Pencil Pro and it will work with that too.

Ok, you pushed me over the edge and I ordered the M4 Pro over the M2 Air.
I’ve been debating this in my head for days now. I’ve literally watched over a 100 videos between the two and was about to go batshit crazy.
I REALLY like the 120Hz screen but I was having a hard time justifying the Pro.
I’ve never owned an iPad but my wife has had hers for a LONG time and she uses it daily. My final decision was based on your video and the aspect that I’ll probably keep the M4 Pro longer than the M2 Air before I feel that I’ll need to upgrade again.
Besides, I know that I’d be ALWAYS longing for that 120 Hz screen.
The dilemma is now over thanks to you!

My reason for using a Mac is that it's much more flexible on the software front. I can easily program/set up custom workflows and automations simply not available on the iPad. I fear the iPad is too restricted software-wise to ever replace the Mac for a lot of people, no matter if the form factor may be superior in some scenarios.

i'm interested in also purchasing the pen, with 120hz i think it will feel a lot snappier? i think it's odd that everyone is just talking about what's currently available in terms of apps etc, like that's everything you're gonna get, there will absolutely be new AI based apps that will really shine on the A4, you might *really* be missing out on something super cool there if you go for the Air. that's my thoughts at least. i think i'll go for the cheapest Pro. I've only ever had old regular ipads (non air).

The real reason why i have no choice but to have a mac AND a ipad is because im an engineer who use shapr3d on the ipad but need the mac to use my 3d printer software. Would you be surprised if Apple eventually replaces the MacBook with the iPad series?
2016 is when I got my Dell desktop. It's on a Core i5 6400 and GTX 720 Ti. Suffice to say I know what you mean about using super old hardware. That's when I got the iPhone 7 Plus, and held off til I got the iPhone 13 Pro Max that I'm using now.
Of course it'd be nice to have the latest things, but it's not really worth it upgrading hardware every single year since it'd be expensive and the differences will not be as significant.

256gb just the base model with wifi. Final Cut works with external media on the Pro M4 apparently so there’ll be less need for extra storage space internally. I also think the benefits of the 1TB model like double ram and more cores in the M4 won’t be as useful as just upgrading the iPad 4+ years down the line

After my GCSEs I’m looking to buy an 11 inch iPad Pro, I was wondering if it is worth also getting a monitor so I could use an external keyboard and mouse with the monitor and iPad while at home at my desk, but then I could just use the iPad when I’m at school for example. What do you think? Is there any point also getting a monitor?

    • @NihongoGamer
      @NihongoGamer  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

I think an external monitor for the iPad Pro is only necessary if you know exactly what you’ll use it for. 99% of the time you’ll probably use an iPad just as an iPad but if you know that you’ll spend a few hours every day typing essays on it then an external monitor would be a good idea for keeping your seated posture correct. Then again, you can also just get a stand that raises the iPad up to a good angle for your neck. I think getting the iPad first and seeing how you go is fine and adding a monitor is something you can do later if you find the screen size isn’t big enough

im a professional artist, and the 13 inch air is more than enough the 60 hz is fine, I have experienced painting/drawing on a 120 hz as I have a galaxy s7plus and really the 120hz doesnt make a huge difference, ive switched to ipad air 13 because I like the aspect ratio better for art, and the battery life, and the screen is plenty good enough. I also work on professional studio tablets daily. and all of those are 60hz so its really the norm. and if you are thinking on getting an ipad simply for art I would 100% recommend the 13 air over anything else. It will pay for its self over many times.
