Cleaning and Grading Tulip Bulbs | The Bulb Industry

Bulbs from the field are brought into the warehouse to have dried roots removed (bollen pellen) and then graded (sorteren) by size. Tulip bulbs are first mechanically cleaned where the old roots are removed from the base of the bulbs by rubber rollers. The bulbs continue to a conveyor where the bulbs that were missed by the machine have the old roots removed by hand. The cleaned bulbs then go on to a grader where they are sorted by size. The largest bulbs will be for export. The smaller bulbs are planting stock for next years bulb crop.
