Just to digress, Lately I have seen many people see Gods as their relative or someone. Like many people see Krishna as their husband, friend, brother. We must see them as God until we transcend to an extent where claiming comes naturally to us. Right now, seeing Kali as mother and Krishna as husband for example is originating from Ego and not emotion (emotion rising not from ego but as a reflection of uplifted consciousness in modern terms) Imagine. If I am a son of Kali Mata. What does that make me? Somebody spiritually advanced than a normal human being right? If I am a wife of Lord Krishna, what must be my spiritual status then? There was a great saint called Gulabrao Maharaj. He turned blind even before turning 1 year old. He would perceive himself as a wife of lord Krishna. So he would wear a sari and put kumkum like any Hindu bride would. It is obvious that he transcended to an extent where he had lost his physical identity. We need to be worthy enough for being son, daughter or wife to them. So, we must consider ourselves like a Dog or the dust surrounding the gods feet. Yes gods can be your friend, husband, father, mother but have you reached that stage to call them one?
Good point! But consider the Rasalila and how each Gopi had her own Krishna! Now when they thought that Krishna was “just mine and no one else’s” (I.e I am better than everyone because I am God’s lover, or God’s son etc. as you rightly pointed out) then, Krishna disappeared and they realized their mistake! So it’s okay to see yourself as God’s child or husband as long as you realize everyone else is too! Or better yet, God IS everyone else. So if you are God’s child, then you are everyone’s child. It’s okay to take up this relationship to God as long as you see everything and everyone else as God too. Also, of course you are worthy! If you are born in this world, you are born of Prakriti who is Devī. You are automatically Her child whether we want to be or not!

In other words Krishna wishes them to be one. Gulabrao Maharaj didn't decide to see himself as a wife of the lord like many people do that at this beginners stage. It happened naturally to him. His emotion was pure which didn't rise from an ego. He was already spiritually advanced when it happened to him. Yes, we all have come from Parashakti or Prakriti but it doesn't give us a right to call lord whatever we want. It is not ok if we are at a beginners stage. There is a certain conduct that we need to comply with in order to worship lord as a beginner. Experience (blessed by a Guru or Lord) of being a wife or son holds more importance than believing that I am a son or wife of the lord. Similarly, believing or articulating that everything is God holds no ground on the spiritual journey if it is not backed by an experience. Yes, belief is essential to be on a spiritual journey but it doesn't give us a right to cross our limits. I am not denying god's existence. I am saying those who saw god everywhere else including within themselves were not beginners like us. Certainly seeing themselves as son or wife happened after or still at an advanced spiritual stage which we can't even begin to grasp the magnitude of. Chant any mantra or Naam which you like. Keep on doing it. Your dedication will feed into it's rapid progress. That's how you get eligible to get a Guru. You will find yourself at the right place when the time comes. Then he/she will guide you further. Follow teachers for the stories, scriptures but not for spiritual progress. Stay away from the people who do miracles. One of the pointers to have a Guru is that particular guru needs to have a lineage (parampara) of Guru's before him/her which traces back to prominent saint or Gods themselves. Guru is one who doesn't sell these holy practices (books, photos and others are ok) in order to run and spread their path to people. Guru is somebody who will not just address the scriptures but will also talk about how to experience the knowledge. A true Guru's are trikal dnyani (they know our past, present and future) and will guide for the betterment of you.
