So glad your video included a shoutout to the old school Kamigawa Myojin! I built a mono-black deck around Night's Whisper back in the day... such fond memories! Thanks for the upload!
I first found MtG during first year of college which happened to be Theros block. I returned to follow the story during the pandemic which happened to align perfectly with Kaldheim. I absolutely adore the gods of the multiverse for this reason and more! Thanks for the video 😊
I'm surprised that the Dominus of Phyrexia weren't mentioned, since they not only have the Indestructibility common to gods, but also seem to represent the nature of those in New Phyrexia and tower over the Praetors, as seen in Tekuthal's art
@michaeltaylor788 It is the Gruul God Anzrag, God of harvests, also referred to as "The Rampaging Mole". It appears in chapter 7 of the story and has an art of it, so there is a 99% chance the card will be spoiled soon.
I absolutely love your narration and the use of music throughout this video, both create such a soothing atmosphere that's very fitting for the topic. You make these gods really feel mythical
If I may suggest a future topic for your next videos, would be about how to differentiate the creature types: Spirit, Specter, Shade, Wraith, Nightmare, Nightstalker, Horror, etc... And how the "afterlife" works for each of the multiverse planes =)
I like to think that Bontu wanted to go with Nicol bolas's plans because being the Goddess of Ambition, she always believed there was always a bigger picture to her current purpose of training initiates for the coming of the God Pharoah. Seeing this, Bontu dreamed of the opportunity of becoming the God Pharoah's bride as surely they'd be able to provide someone as ambitious as her with strong children and together rule over the multiverse. However, when the truth became known, Bontu was horrified. All of her efforts had been for nothing, as Nicol Bolas never intended anything for her besides service through death. But after Lilliana freed her and the other zombie Gods from Nicol Bolas's control, she returned his betrayal with a nasty bite that could stagger even him.
Blessed be those in search of knowledge, and further blessed be those that bring those that bring that knowledge to us. Praise upon thee, oh Learned Lorebrarian, praise be.
My favorite god in Magic is Jorn. I started playing around Ice Age and he gave me the justification I needed to play a fully thematic Snow deck in Commander.
Your reverence and prostration before their sprawling spectrum of splendors have no doubt found you worthy of the bountiful favor bestowed by all the pantheons profiled and the places over which each preside, each a distinct punctuation of the void that spans across the vastness of the Blind Eternities. It is a singular honor you rightfully earn, and I celebrate the glory of such a feat, and praise your name as the Lorelord of Legends lent life and Master of Myriad Myths made material, Syr. HAIL, Herald of the Heavens and their Heroes!
I also salute your denial of the false God-Pharaoh Bolas as well your complete omission of the self-crowned God, whose claim of dominion over the perpetual pursuit of perfection proved nothing but the path of putrid prejudice, pernicious predation, and perversion of progress that once promised to proliferate the pox of polished profanity, itself perceived to be "perfection" by all it doomed, from pituful puppet to the prideful Praetors numbering the ranks comprising that accursed scourge, that mutilated mockery made by the malignant melding of the mortal and mechanical thru means of magic most malevolent, the unconscionable horror designed and obsessively crafted by Lord of The Wastes and The Father of Machines, Yawgmoth HIMSELF, the abomination that nearly enslaved and slaughtered every corner of the Multiverse, known as the dread Phyrexia.
Only one brief mention of Nicol Bolas, the Dragon God and the one being who probably came closest to being a veritable god of not just one plane but of the entire multiverse! He could have been the culmination of the discussion pointing out that (like xenagos) a non-divine being can achieve godhood on a multiverse level through subjugation and power consolidation. Other than that nitpick, fantastic video :)
Phenax was also not a God at first, but obtained later. Even getting recognized by the other Gods of Theros as someone to keep, when Xanagos wasn't and deemed a threat.
I'm so conflicted about the gods of Theros, specifically Heliod. Cardwise its on point for what he represents flavor wise and White wise but the actual character himself is very Black in motivation and cares about only himself. Which is a shame since when White is taken into villainy it showcases the issues of prioritizing the group over the individual. To be honest there hasn't been a single pantheon I've been fully happy with as there just seems to be something that always gets in the way from me fully enjoying them but my favorite god of the lot so far is Halvar.
I think that's what makes them enjoyable. I don't want my gods to be infallible. The lore "human" they are, the better they are IMO. I hope when we return to Theros we see the gods have maybe restructured a little bit and possibly have new portfolios, new colours attached to their name, and new ideologies they represent and uphold
The head of the group is often in it for the group's praise, respect, and loyalty. They want what's best for the group as part and leader of said group. Heliod isn't Black, he's just the worst of White. Black doesn't care what others think.
Take into account though that card for Heliod doesnt necessarily represent the character, but the projected image thats worshipped. The card is a reflection of why people believed in him enough to make him a god, not who he is.
I feel like white can be very appropriate for a self serving God (aristocrats is a black/white archetype, after all). White is more than just the collective, it's the collective united towards a *common goal.* And usually it is JUSTICE or DEMOCRACY, but easily could also be the God that represents them. When has justice wept for the lives sacrificed to uphold it? It seems justice even *demands* that it is better for "lowly commoners" to die defending it than to spare them and let it die. Black is self-serving, but also intelligent, it knows it's low and so uses low means to get out on top. But White? That's where those are who already believe in their supremacy, that's where the fascists are.
I’ve always had a fascination with the Greek gods and mythology, as I myself am greek. I was the most ardent student in that section in high school English. Theros was a particularly special set to me, because of the Greek influence, and it was the first set that I bought cards and packs from. Was less knowledgeable about the Norse and Egyptian gods, but still passionate about the mythology. Great hearing the pronunciation of the ixalan gods; have been wondering about that since they were spoiled 😜. Was good to learn the origination of kinjalli and tilonalli. The family dynamic of the kaldheim gods was super interesting and unique. I hadn’t known that before
23:46 Isnt it funny that another ravnikan Gruul God was just revealed? Anzrag, Quake Mole is the second ever God from Ravnika and it seems to be some sort of civilisation destroying War God judging by its flavortext. Based on the two examples we have of Ravnikan Gods they seem to be primal and animalistic deitys, Gods of the wilds so to say. No wonder we dont see many Gods on Ravnika, if they indeed are all like this then there is little to no space for these beings on a plain like Ravnika that is this removed from the natural order, shure there is an ecosystem in the endless streats and rooftops but the wilds these deitys where born from are long gone...
I find it ironic that pretty much immediately after you uploading this video the stating the only printed Ravnican god is Ilharg, wizards just drop a mole god into our laps
The Lorwyn deities are mentioned in the final section, but they do not have the "God" type, nor do Phyrexias but definitely could have included a bit about Elesh Norn and her religion
@@TheLorebrarians designers of previous sets specifically avoided printing gods as a god card and wanted to explore what that could entail, so the ur-dragon could technically be considered a god. Or the aspects of life from lorwyn; vigor, guile, purity, dread and hostility along with horde of notions could be considered terrestrial gods like the deities. It’s personal perspective.
Ilharg is discussed and Nephilim, though not "God" type are mentioned. Unfortunately, this video was produced before Anzrag was spoiled in the newest set
Should've watched to video to the end before commenting and should've refreshed the page before deleting said comment. Now I can't reply. My appologies

I’m DM-ing a D&D campaign and listened to this video for inspiration. Thank you so much for the content you create ✨
It is a true blessing when we get these documentaries. Happy late new year!!
Glad you enjoyed!

Because no one really understands what the eff they are.
unfortunately it seems to be the case that they created the Domini of New Phyrexia then just did nothing with them
Bit unfortunate this video came out before the release of Murders at Karlov Manner. The set has a new Ravnican god introduced in it.
What is this gods name and what are they the god of.
@michaeltaylor788 It is the Gruul God Anzrag, God of harvests, also referred to as "The Rampaging Mole". It appears in chapter 7 of the story and has an art of it, so there is a 99% chance the card will be spoiled soon.
I've been binge-watching your MTG content, and I'm having a blast so far.
Appreciate it. Magic was the IP that first got me into content creation and its Multiverse of lore remains one of my most cherished
I’ve been doing the exact same love this guys work

I’ve been wondering what your next mtg video was going to be on and you did not disappoint. Keep up the great work!!
Appreciate it!
These video essays are awesome to listen to and watch
Tergrid is one of my all time favorite cards!! i hope they make more of her cards one day haha would love to see her team up with Sheoldred
My favorite god in Magic is Jorn. I started playing around Ice Age and he gave me the justification I needed to play a fully thematic Snow deck in Commander.
Yoooo so hype to see a new Magic video!!! So awesome!!!
Hope you enjoyed

A Master of storytelling
Another banger Video! This Channel is my go to when it comes to MTG Lore and it never disappoints 👏
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed!
With your writing and editing and voice you won me as a subscriber ❤
Wonder what the original black aligned god of Ixilan looked like and what he represented.
I've always been partial to Greek mythology so I have to say that the first 5 mentioned are my favs

He would be like the equivalent of Zeus. He was not a good dude.

Loved this, nice job
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey man, great video! Can you please tell me the title of the piano music in the background? I loved it
🔥🔥🔥 Love the video!
Appreciate it!
Please do an update on the Eldrazi. Can you do lore on Zhulodok?

Great video my man, gorgeous and your delivery is flawless...but what about the Dead Three? Bane, Bhaal, Myrkul? D:
I excluded all gods that aren't technically within the MTG IP/Multiverse, so no D&D or Lord of the Rings. Apologies, but still hope you enjoyed!
Been waiting on this one. Still keep Mogis in my vampire dragon deck just for the flavor of dragon taming vampires worshiping the god of slaughter
I find it ironic that pretty much immediately after you uploading this video the stating the only printed Ravnican god is Ilharg, wizards just drop a mole god into our laps
If only I had the inside scoop
Did I just miss it, or did he not mention Athreos when talking about Theros. It seems weird that that one wouldn't be included.
How does it feel releasing this days before we got to see a new ravnican god?
Very unfortunate. And a mole God no less
Number 2!
very good but you forgot about the elemental gods of lorwyn and new phyrexia. But i loved it.

Although not titles as gods, the Apex’s from Ikoria hold some sway on the plane of Ikoria- not unlike a god. What are your thoughts?
WHich is stronger DND Greater gods or Magic the gatrhering gods
Probably DND greater gods tbh
Why u don't talk about the ixalan god relationships
Amazing video! I wish Kaladesh had hindu inspired Gods
Definitely a missed opportunity to add to the Multiverse Pantheon
Were they once Planeswalkers?
You forgot the archetype dimeigod
2 Ravnican gods, now!
Devotion as supplication
Trial initiation, superior approval
Why u leave out ravnica gods?
Ilharg is discussed and Nephilim, though not "God" type are mentioned. Unfortunately, this video was produced before Anzrag was spoiled in the newest set
How about the ur dragon not a god?
Phyrexian gods ?
"Therosian dieties" no no sir. Deities from theros lmaoooo jk I love you man keep going we love to see it
Agreed :P
Give a Dino 3 heads, yeaaah I call that divine 🤤

I really wanna watch these but holy shit the pretension is palpable idk if its just the narrators cadence or what but its unbearable too bad
