Yea everyone was actually pretty good about letting people by.. I always move over for faster riders behind me and never try to block people from getting around me.. so I was very (maybe overly) vocal about letting people know that I was going to pass or catch them 👌🏼
Thanks 😝 Gotta Wheelie from start to Finish! The last Wheelie was “magically” long🪄 😜 & I got passed in the last 20 yards before the finish because of it.. lol
F-ing loved your race coverage!! I'm doing the Whiskey 25 in a couple of week (2024)- 1st time. Curious, what's a good tire pressure to ride at?? Absolutely gorgeous ride. Thanks and great job.
Thanks a bunch! Stoked it is helping others! Was a wild and fun ride for sure. Depending on what casing tires you are running and brand I’d say no less than 22 front and 24 rear.. also remember that in an xc race like this tire pressures will rise over the course of the race by a couple psi ☝🏼
Thanks for doing this vid btw. FWIW, the 30-proof is a lot shorter in distance this year. No more riding all those miles in Spence. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Regardless, thanks for coming to our town to race. Hope to see you for the 2023 W.O.R.
Awesome 👏🏼 thanks! Yea they are tough XC races but if you actually train or are more prepared than I was, I’m sure it’ll be more fun then all pain! Haha
This was a Santa Cruz Tallboy that was a friends who let me borrow his bike since I didn’t have one back in April. Huge shout out & thank you to Jerott King from Mikesbikes in Walnut Creek Ca. for letting me ride his Tallboy
@@bike_somm Excellent video! Which tires did you have, do you remember? Looks like a Minion DHF or equivalent. I did the 15 (actually 19.4 mi) last year and am doing the 30 (26.5) this year. Will be running a Mezcal rear but debating whether front can be an XC tire or if something more aggressive is needed, especially for those fast downhill parts coming off the peak.
great vid! love to watch you speed! how did you end up with such clear sailing? other videos i watched showed hoards of people going so slow, blocking trails, walking bikes. which wave were you in to start?
I forget which wave, but I made sure to pedal hard at the beginning and pass as many people in my wave as possible and then only few ended up catching back up and passing me later after about 3/4 of the race when I started getting tired and fighting off a couple small cramps. Thank goodness for the aid stations! Good fun and hard race for sure!
Thank you, the only one around our home that I know much about is the Skyline Classic XC race .. at least not to anything of this magnitude or volume of riders. The Epic Rides series has a few awesome locations that they do, would be rad to one day see something like this come our way. 🤞🏻
Speed demon!!! Looks so sick.
Haha thanks! Yea this was an epic race 🙌🏼
I’m doing it this year and this helped me study the track also I love how nice you are on the trail. All around awesome!
That looked like a super fun race 🤙🏽
Awesome thanks 😎 Stoked you liked it! Was a blast out there even tho it was very testing physically and mentally to finish the race!
Guy in the Jean shorts on a hard tail is my spirit animal!
Hahah, Yess!! We were playing leap frog for a good majority of the race 🤘🏼🐸
@@bike_somm wearing a full face during an XC race is full TH-cam dedication! Nice vid dude
Hard tail no way man to old for that
That's me @ 6:42 in the orange shirt, green hardtail. That was a fun day.
Great job calling out those passes 🤘.

I hope to do the 30 some day
I enjoyed this a lot - great work!
My new mantra when I'm trying to pass someone at a crowded event - "Fast downhiller behind ya!"
Hahah, yea when in doubt “Fast DH Rider Behind” 😅
Thanks & glad you enjoyed the vid!
And when you pass a hiker, Racer!
Hey dude you did good.
Thank you Jose! This was one tough race to finish after all those wheelies 😅
Hey I like the shirt bro
Thanks @mtbnorcal has always had my back 🫶🏼
That wheelie during the start was so sick!
Thanks 😝 Gotta Wheelie from start to Finish!

Check out Epicrides.com think this year is around April 26-28th for 2024
Hell yeah jay! Hoping to make it out to the 2023 and do the 50 Proof! Nice job on the 30

You should have told that guy that blew by you on the climb how fast a downhiller you are
@@geraldh.6686 oh I think he found that out a few times.. lol 😝 I warned them all I was gonna pass one way or another 🤣
