IF you don't fall in love with his voice or IF it doesn't bring tears to your eyes~then truly there's something seriously wrong with that person inside. I've been listening to this song for 40 years. It was originally written by a prisoner. But in the 1960s it was a VERY popular song with our soldiers who were fighting during the Vietnam War for their gfs and wives back at home. So many soldiers during that era ALL over the world who were overseas fighting there used THIS song as their love song. It's one of those songs that has truly stood the test of time. The Righteous Brothers (not related) were a duo but they often sang solo on their albums. It's been said that both of them wanted to sing this song so it was decided by a coin toss & Bobby won. :-) This is what we call blue eyed soul...The great Bobby Hatfield - he did this in one take with a live audience, also in front of his parents, no autotune or computer aided post production enhancements - just pure talent. I was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it being played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite songs since I was a young kid. It is considered to be one of the greatest love songs ever composed. It has been covered many times over by other great artists, but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg. This was definitely Bobby's signature song, as no other can match his performance - so smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice that can make any lady (or man) swoon. Please check out "You've lost that lovin' feeling", Bill takes lead & Bobby provides background vocals on that amazing song. It holds the record for being the most radio requested song of the 20th century and was featured in a famous scene from the movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise & Val Kilmer.

the phenomenal aspect is that Bobby Medley sang the song live in the video without any help from production or or sound enhancement. I am an old guy- my wife and I saw the Righteous Brothers in 1974 at a nightclub in Dallas. Bobby sounded just as clear on each note, reached all the high ones and was able to sustain them. And baby girl, don't be afraid to cry at beauty. There wasn't a dry eye in the nightclub by any of the women and although boys didn't cry in the 60's- it wasn't allowed- there were some faces that looked like they could break out in tears at any moment

The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist.
When the Righteous Brothers got this it's been theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to.
On this live performance his Mother ( possibly dad ) is in the audience.
At the end he bites his lip as he knows he nailed this song.
There are hundreds of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition.

He was the whole package. No one will do this song like him.Alot have tried some close but never will any have his voice. That was live also. The other half of the Righteous Bros is Bill Melody. Bobby did this song solo .Together they were great complimented each other.Bobby Hatfield unfortunately passed in 2003 shortly after they were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME. Bill Melody still performs today .

Bobby Hatfield he really sang with all his heart and soul, nowadays there are no more singers at that level there will ever be again, a time when it gave me pleasure to hear the songs so beautiful, that nowadays no longer exists !!!

Did you notice the intonation of his first "Are you?" and the second "Are you"... Thats how emotional Bobby's singging and expression for this song.

Good day Miss Taiwo. I am a 67 year old retired U.S. Army Paratrooper , and you have placed a smile on my face everytime I watch you get excited while listening to a old classic song. If you find the time, look up and listen to the song called ( This is your life produced by the group name the Commodores. ) Enjoy your watching you on TH-cam. Thank you.

These two men back in the day would melt the heart right out of women. Bobbie and Bill were just darn good singers - no auto tune, no computer dubs, just great songs sung with a truck load of feelings. A bit of background, this was live, Bobbie said he was very nervous for this performance. It did not show. Lady, can you imagine being in the audience & Bobbi sings this to you.

@@donaldjz ... yeah, I hear ya. I hate comparing and ranking because we don't know if "Mo" listened to UM alone and may have had an even more "tangible" experience that didn't make it to the video. The most memorable "quote" from Too Sushi was: "I feel like I've just been serenaded by God"... and her looks of "astonishment" are so genuine... it borders on the "REAL". Mo had a "genuine" moment when listening to "The Great Gig in the Sky". I urge you to watch it.

That’s the emotive power of the legendary BOBBY HATFIELD (RIP 1940 - 2003) - arguably the greatest tenor singer EVER - his pronouncing and clarity is perfect. This was his 1965 masterpiece 👌
