Okay, so serious question, if Glen Benton used an AI to generate the lyrics, the AI would go through Glen Benton's previous lyrics as a reference, so wouldn't that still be Glen Benton's lyrics?
The odds that Ai would solely use Bentons lyrics is pretty small in my opinion. Beyond that, the moment I find out a band I like is using Ai to write lyrics, I'm done with them. I can't imagine a quicker way to drain the authenticity and passion from the music.
Yes, it would still be a word salad of his lyrics. However, the thing that everyone forgets is that: the AI isn't making choices (like whether to use Glenn's lyrics or not). Humans set the parameters for what the AI sources from.

@@ScrilboBagginsmeat and potatoes is fair, its kind of the whole point imo. There is a space for the classic death metal aesthetic done well, which Necrot is. It’s important to have new death metal that focuses on the foundations of the genre to listen to inbetween all of the wildly exploratory sprigs of death metal. The guitar work, riff-writing, and timing are certainly special if you try to play it, and the lyrics are well structured and thought out. Luca rips as a frontman live as well. There’s a lot to like.

I think if I want to listen to Deicide I’ll listen to their album Legion.
I'm really shocked that there are actually a handful of death metal artists (and pretty big names too) who have seemingly embraced AI art wholeheartedly and not even in an interesting way (e.g. I think the video for "No Place To Arrive" by Mizmor is a really cool use of AI imo) but in the most thoughtless and boring "generate me a demon head for my album cover" way.
Maybe this sounds really elitist but I was honestly hoping that in a genre that is basically entirely made up of dedicated fans and that generally values great cover art, bands would realize that shitting out something like this is really insulting. I can generate my own Deicide album art right now, I don't need you to do it for me Glen.
Pestilence and Hour of Penance have done something similar and the latter even have an AI music video for "Devotion for Tyranny" which looks really awful. High on Fire have one, too but at least that one looks a lot better I think..
Honestly really disappointing how quickly it infiltrated the scene.
Solid album, great riffs, impeccable playing. Seems like the hip thing nowadays is just to complain about everything. Reminds me when Morbid Angel released Domination, the metal mags were all giving it like 2 stars and the same commentary from critics. They didn’t get it then and still don’t get it now. Why people say they like death metal but then not actually like death metal?

While listening to it, I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it. Now a day later I don’t really remember much about it. I think that kind of encapsulates my thoughts overall. It’s fine.

I don’t agree with this review. From the snippers from what i’ve heard, i think Deicide sounds again like their heydays. Catchy tunes, brutal vocals, topnotch lead. For the first minute, i thought the Hoffman brothers were back!!! It sounds that good, it’s truly an hommage to their early riffing work!
I haven't heard the album, probably won't ever get around to it as I really only like the first 3 or 4 albums. It's Deicide, you already know what it's gonna be. Good on them for sticking around this long though.
Deicide could be touring with Sebastian Bach as they are now on the same label

Udon Noodle String was my high school band name
Deicide had a huge influence on me. I was in a progressive death metal band back in the early 2000s, and Deicide's self-titled album shaped how I would do my death growls. I enjoyed Legion and liked Once Upon the Cross and Serpents of Light. Then I fell off until Scars of the Crucifix, which was alright. I loved Stench of Redemption, and then fell off again. I feel like Deicide was that "forbidden fruit" that I listened to as an angsty teenager who went to a catholic school, and now I've grown up LOL.
Stopped listening to Deicide around The Stench of Redemption. This is the first one since then that I think I kind of like. Not bad. At least 3.5 from me.
Everything about this review makes me feel very old, like i should be watching Music of Destruction and also wearing sunglasses inside.
The best first death metal album for a youth to hear is Legion and the reason is because the vocals are just right up in your face and overwhelm the music. It's a very beastly effect, although it's not likely to impact anyone quite the same way with so much similar music now.
But this is all a natural progression of history; homey is obviously young. Everyone voted for Reagan in 1984, even Mondale. It was like the original TikTok challenge. And Deicide easily could have been the best DM band ever except they kept releasing records after the Hoffmans left. Now it's just openly about the fact that Glen can't get a job anywhere else.
I really enjoy this album. Banger front to back!

Album sounds great, production sounds good. Deicides performance on here is great. People wont stop believing in their gods and he isn't going to stop hating them. Again great effort. Your review was quite entertaining.
Your right , this guy is just a poser . I mean clearly a bias review and doesn't even know who the big 4 are . But anyways, the production to very good , some really nice catch riffs , very good solos. A solid deicide and death metal in general album for sure .

I am surprised he talked that much trash about Glen Benton on the internet. Perhaps his inner child was crying because papa Glen wrote mean things about God again. You don't listen to Deicide like you would Sleeptoken or Periphery. They are supposed to sound raw, dated and older because they are! Classic death metal with modern sounding production. That the product they are marketing. I like it and have been dying to hear how classic metal bands material translates into modern sound production and it sounds amazing!

AC/DeiCide are churning them out on the reg, and pretty much like that popular Australian band don’t release anything bad per se, but it’s never mandatory either. The best we can hope at this point are albums with a slight upratchet in quality songwriting (like their last one or To Hell With God).

I love a bit of death metal that knows what it is its getting quite rare. its what got me into it in the early 2000s someone needs to keep banging the drum to keep the fire smoldering so the others can experiment to make a name for themself. Nothing unique here, but it's deicide you know what you are getting. Personally I can throw the rest of the album but never doing a road trip again without 'Bury the cross with your christ' perfect song to blast in the car

Okay, so you asked for our thoughts? well I havent listened to the album yet, hence why I headed to a review. All I can say is though, I am the "old man" ( but much younger than Benton), but I agree that he is completely wrong in regard to AI. BUT I do find the Deicide bashing a tad boring, I mean, this channel has turned into Blaynes comedy channel advert so slowly that I didnt notice. Although I had noticed as I find my self on "metal trenches" far more often than "Banger" and that is sad.

Mostly agree with Blayne. This couldn't be more of a meat-and-potatoes death metal album. And I'm not a Deicide hater either, I thought Overtures of blasphemy was their best album in a long time. But this one is dull as hell. Also wanted to acknowledge the shoutout for Beholder - great band! Their current (and previous) albums are definitely worth a listen if you like black-thrash.

For me this was a completely non-offensive, "okay" death metal release. It's not bad, but I likely would have never listened to it if it wasn't from a band like Deicide, and I have very little inclination to go back to it. ::shrug::
