I think the black elite in Haiti being portrayed as mostly politicians is a popular myth. I know many elite black Haitians who have succeeded through entrepreneurship, personal business ventures, and through education. The reality is there aren't many political positions in Haiti to give out, so black Haitians have succeeded by many other means. At the same time, I know mulattos who are penniless. So the moral of the story is color doesn't necessarily define your economic status in Haiti.

What planet are you living? But the Mulatos in Haiti 🇭🇹 are the riches people in Haiti. Just because not all Mulato are rich doesn’t mean anything.

Yeh Haití is like a lot of other countries in Latin America tbh. Race matters, but money and education reign supreme, at that point race doesn't matter.
It's a bit contrasting to the USA where people will still face heavy discrimination and racism despite being rich

  • @sunvision0

Yes, Haiti was France's richest colony in the new world. But to say Haiti was 75% of France's wealth and one of the richest countries in the world at that time I believe is pure exaggeration.

What an interesting video, it provides the perspective of those who are regarded as the elite. For those who understand french, you see that struggle of living in Haiti, which has made attempts at change, but economically it continues to struggle and though like Mme. Boulos stated things seem about the same in Haiti as is Syria but in the same hand they are not the same. What fascinating rare perspective of the "other" view.

@illus4u It is my hope and reach that with a new president taking over in May 14, 2011 the whole country will join together and work toward rebuilding Haiti.
Yes, you are correct, tourism is extremely important for Haiti. Haiti used to be #1 destination for tourists back in the late 70's and early 80's. Now is Jamaica, DR and Puerto Rico.
But if all Haitians unite and work together truly, Haiti can be a miracle country like Brazil, China and Chile.
    I will hope for that.

I agree the French revolution started on July 14, 1789. It happened mainly because France had many economic problems at home and many people were going hungry in France. It continued during the 1790's. In fact, in 1799 France was still in economic turmoil which allowed Napoleon to easily usurp power through a coup d'etat in 1799. Napoleon only had absolute power when he declared himself emperor in 1804.

The French revolution happened in July 14, 1789. I will double check the figures, but I really though France was the richest country at the time kind of like the US today. Even though the US is in debt, it is the richest economy in the world.

@gimarworld 200 years ago when Haiti was 75% of France wealth and one of the richest country in the world we produced everything we consumed and export far exceeded import. Now, we export almost nothing (Rum Barbancourt is Haiti most famous export)
We need to find a solution. China could be an example, 30 years ago they started a transformation that has made them the second biggest economy in the world, a powerful army and a middle class the size of the US population.

  • @sunvision0
    @sunvision0 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

France was not the richest colony at that time. France in the 1790's and into the 1800's was in debt, poor, and many people were going hungry in France. That's why the French revolution happened in the 1790's. If Haiti was one of the richest colonies in the world and Haiti was 75% of France's wealth, why was France suffering so much despite owning Haiti in the 1790's? Do some research on that and you'll see it. Anyway, I'll look up your assertion just to confrim.

The Term Latin America was Used to contrast Anglo-Saxons, Dutch Speaking America a.k.a North America we are not heavily mixed as the DR or Cuba but we still have the Music, food language and culture as Heritage

BeautyAndBrainsGirls Haitians sold their souls to the devil for independence and it's a known fact. Besides it's documented by historians on Wikipedia and a few other websites. It talks about how the slaves had a satanic voodoo ceremony back in 1791 headed by a pagan priest and a female witch practitioner.

September 2016. The ten-thousandth Syrian arrived to the U.S. last week. Europe has accepted ten times more. Has Haiti? If she hasn't, she should again just as she did a century ago. Only this time, do so with open arms instead of persecution.

Is true. Go do some research at either the prestigious Boston Public Library or the New York public Library if you do not believe.
Is a easy math: France was the richest country at the time (Napoleon ruled the world) and if Haiti was France richest colony is easy to see the calculation is accurate. But double check.

I believe for the Capital what attract people in, is what will get them out but outside of the capital as of increase the touristic activities in the country sides to increase the economy.
