Police are currently looking into the recording as the bin also damaged next doors fence.

Hi, If the TV license is for all the channels on your TV. Then why has the BBC Kept all the money for themselves. And not given an equal share to all the stations then.
It also amazes me that not a single one out of all those other TV services has ever challenged the law regarding that. All I can think of is their broadcast licence includes some legal small print that makes them have to sign away their right to make any legal challenges against the Communications Act.

I wrote to them 10 years ago addressed from ‘the current occupier’ confirming I ‘Do not need a tv licence’. I asked to be removed from their ‘non payers list’. I also removed All implied rights of access to my property for them and any of their employees or sub contractors. They wrote back to confirm but said they can use other means to detect! I’ve never had so much as a letter. Send them a letter like this and you shouldn’t get harrassed ?

They have a gall to impose all this BS, when we consider that if we view through Netflix, Stan, TH-cam or any other media outlet, we are not using the BBC signal. If these alternative channels screen recorded versions of BBC programs, then they may have to pay royalties. Whether we pay subscriptions to any of these other outlets is not in the BBC's jurisdiction. Therefore, people should have a right to NOT watch BBC live and not be persecuted for their decision. I live in Australia, and we cancelled TV licencing for the ABC a long time ago because it was so electorally unpopular and damaging for governments of all persuasions. I’ve just received a letter this morning, normally they are sent from Jane Jeffers stoke on Trent branch . This one is from a chap called Mc taggert and quite strongly worded , apparently they are at the final stages of their investigation. 🤣
I've had about twenty of those over the past ten years, it's a load of old tosh, chuck it in the bin and if they dare to visit you just say "no thanks" and close the door in their face, don't talk to them just close the door. It's a bit complicated, but best summed up in the phrase 'Government interference'. Originally, the BBC was the only television service, so a licence to watch their services made sense in a pre-computer age. As soon as commercial channels appeared, people naturally wondered whether they could avoid paying for the licence, by just watching the non- BBC channels. Technically you could, but it would be a legal nightmare, as there was no way to determine if a person was only watching them. So, the government, who rather enjoy having a state broadcaster, that they completely control the funding of, decided to amend the broadcasting act to cover all 'live' TV broadcasts... The arrival of catch-up TV and streaming services have further muddied the water. It's a system long overdue for change. Hope that helps, mate.

I cancelled my TV License when my father passed away (he was the only one who watched TV, I haven't watched TV in at least 15 years only in passing while dad was watching) and after a few months I got a visit from IPSOS asking about my TV/Radio watching/listening habits, Obviously I told him I didn't watch TV as I didn't have a TV (which I didn't) he was stunned and said how do you get your news? I said you mean propaganda? He stayed quiet for a few seconds then said well would you like to fill in this questionnaire? I said it has nothing to do with me, I don't watch it so can't comment on it. In 45 years of living here we have never had a visit from IPSOS but a few months after cancelling my TV License they turned up. I wonder if they are being used by the BBC to gather incriminating evidence? Any thoughts?

Stopped watching TV 3 years ago cos my broke to I never got another , I contacted TV licencing, and I filled out a folder for a refund which I never received. I called them 3 weeks ago after receiving theatning letters I was told I would not receive anymore letters and a week later I received a letter. I have started to keep letters and time stamp the calls in case they ever try to take me to court.

You would be surprised by how many newspaper articles are based on press releases or feature articles penned by various PR units for major organisations. It is probably approaching 50% for some newspapers.
We should do the same as America, just pay one fee to whichever cable company and no licence. Here in the UK, its ridiculous that we pay twice to watch tv, a licence to be able to watch live tv and then we pay again to Virgin or Sky to be able to recieve channels. I know that you don't have to get Sky or Virgin, but if you want to watch live sport that's not on BBC, ITV, Ch 4 or Ch 5 then you have to pay extra. The tv licence needs to go, its outdated and unnecessary.
The Tv license is a BBC organisation, all profits from the tv license goes directly to the BBC however as part of the law if you do not own a tv license and watch any channel live on any service you will be fined. Even though ITV or Channel 4 doesn’t see any of the money we still cannot watch them if we don’t have a license

I'm thinking that if TV Licencing do call round and I'm in, it should be straightforward for them to look round my small place in five minutes and clearly see that I don't have a TV. Have a good day. It worries me that they could then just say that I do have a TV or decide for themselves that my computer monitor is capable of receiving TV programmes and then prosecute me, despite me not having any means of watching TV. Every time I get a letter from the licensing dept, I put return to sender on letters and post them off.

I've had about twenty of those over the past ten years, it's a load of old tosh, chuck it in the bin and if they dare to visit you just say "no thanks" and close the door in their face, don't talk to them just close the door.

Jon, has anybody who genuinely does not need a licence ( or perhaps a group of people/friends) ever tested a harassment case in a court of law. I’m a new licence-free member of the clan. I’ve had a confirmation of cancellation ( another waste of paper from the BBC who are always banging on about climate change) but nothing else. It’s only been a few weeks so there’s plenty of time but if I am harassed as much as some people say they are I would be pretty pissed off. As you’ve said loads of times, you don’t need a licence if you don’t watch live,streamed, BBC iPlayer blah,blah blah.
This cannot be right that they are allowed to harass people verbally or by post who have genuinely made the effort to rid themselves of these scumbags. One of their notorious scumbags had Alex Belfield put away for five years for merely sending emails. These bastards are doing a lot worse than that. Interested to know yours or anybody else’s thoughts on my suggestion.

As a Texan I don't understand why you have to pay the BBC to watch a different channel.
It's a bit complicated, but best summed up in the phrase 'Government interference'.
Originally, the BBC was the only television service, so a licence to watch their services made sense in a pre-computer age. As soon as commercial channels appeared, people naturally wondered whether they could avoid paying for the licence, by just watching the non- BBC channels. Technically you could, but it would be a legal nightmare, as there was no way to determine if a person was only watching them. So, the government, who rather enjoy having a state broadcaster, that they completely control the funding of, decided to amend the broadcasting act to cover all 'live' TV broadcasts...
The arrival of catch-up TV and streaming services have further muddied the water. It's a system long overdue for change.

So everyone's forced to go digital.. so you buy a TV and what's built into it 'FREEVIEW' does the name itself not imply that it is a 'free' to use service? I cancelled my TV License when my father passed away (he was the only one who watched TV, I haven't watched TV in at least 15 years only in passing while dad was watching) and after a few months I got a visit from IPSOS asking about my TV/Radio watching/listening habits, Obviously I told him I didn't watch TV as I didn't have a TV (which I didn't) he was stunned and said how do you get your news? I said you mean propaganda? He stayed quiet for a few seconds then said well would you like to fill in this questionnaire? I said it has nothing to do with me, I don't watch it so can't comment on it. In 45 years of living here we have never had a visit from IPSOS but a few months after cancelling my TV License they turned up. I wonder if they are being used by the BBC to gather incriminating evidence? Any thoughts?
I have one of their own hand delivered 'DO NOT IGNORE' notices on the front door, advising that a TV licence is NOT REQUIRED at the address & NOT TO CALL AGAIN!!

It's a law the government put in place, we the people have been saying for years to get rid of it, but the government don't listen. Doesn't matter what colour the government is, the BBC will be their mouthpiece. So we are stuck with it for the foreseeable future.

Why do people stress about it I've never paid and ignored all their communication for over 25 years.
I've started to save every single piece of crap( takeaways, double glazing etc, and stick their address on top,and send it to them.along with the crap THEY send me.
I haven't had a license for over 10 years and I am still only getting the letters. I have never had a knock on the door. What is the criteria for the BBC to harass a person? What makes them single out a person or address to send the boys round to intimidate them?
Stopped watching TV 3 years ago cos my broke to I never got another , I contacted TV licencing, and I filled out a folder for a refund which I never received. I called them 3 weeks ago after receiving theatning letters I was told I would not receive anymore letters and a week later I received a letter. I have started to keep letters and time stamp the calls in case they ever try to take me to court.

You would be surprised by how many newspaper articles are based on press releases or feature articles penned by various PR units for major organisations. It is probably approaching 50% for some newspapers.

It's a license for the BBC not TH-cam or ITV.. they pay their own way....
We should do the same as America, just pay one fee to whichever cable company and no licence. Here in the UK, its ridiculous that we pay twice to watch tv, a licence to be able to watch live tv and then we pay again to Virgin or Sky to be able to recieve channels.
I know that you don't have to get Sky or Virgin, but if you want to watch live sport that's not on BBC, ITV, Ch 4 or Ch 5 then you have to pay extra. The tv licence needs to go, its outdated and unnecessary.

The Tv license is a BBC organisation, all profits from the tv license goes directly to the BBC however as part of the law if you do not own a tv license and watch any channel live on any service you will be fined. Even though ITV or Channel 4 doesn’t see any of the money we still cannot watch them if we don’t have a license

Hmm.. I’ve not had a tv licence since 2008 . I don’t watch anything that falls within their remit for needing one. And, I always declare “ No TV licence required “ when asked . Never had a problem. Ever.

I'm thinking that if TV Licencing do call round and I'm in, it should be straightforward for them to look round my small place in five minutes and clearly see that I don't have a TV. Have a good day. It worries me that they could then just say that I do have a TV or decide for themselves that my computer monitor is capable of receiving TV programmes and then prosecute me, despite me not having any means of watching TV. It would be their word against mine (ultimately at their risk of perjury, I guess), unless I went to the trouble of recording their visit.
I don't even watch TV anymore all the shows are rubbish anyway. I declared that I only game on my TV so I'm waiting for them to come knocking. So many things about the license that don't add up anymore. Like it's called a TV license but they tell us it includes watching live programs on any other devices that are not called TV's ??? Also we expected to pay monthly subscription for netflix and TH-cam etc. and pay a license on top of all that to watch any of these services???? It used to be accepted because BBC don't show ads so we had to pay a license but now we are being charged to watch anything that includes ads aswell????? It all seems like robbery and blackmail to me and they will never get a penny of my hard earned cash. I hope the BBC collapse and rot in hell
