Question: A site originally consists of a 3 m deposit of saturated clay overlying bedrock. A 1 m thick fill will be constructed and used to support a 2 m x 2 m square footing. Calculate the ultimate consolidation settlement of the clay if the footing supports a 1000 kN load. Base your calculations on the initial and final stresses at the midpoint of the clay layer ( under the center of the footing). Properties of the clay are as follows: Cc = 0.4, Cr = 0.08, σp' = 50 kPa, w = 0.40, Gs = 2.7

why do you input the initial overburden pressure as 7.8, not taking into account the pressure from the 1m of fill above the clay layer?
The original ground surface is at 1 meter below the footing (building)
Sir what is A and n and m? A is the area of the corner footing or length?
Thanks for watching Master Civil Engineering
A and B are the sides of small square footing and m and n are the unitless coefficients which are used to determine Influence Coefficient
Sir, what is 250 in stress calculation.......
Thanks for watching dear
250 kPa is the stress at the base of the footing due to load on the footing
How about circulation foundation example?
Thanks for Watching Master Civil Engineering
Will make an video soon on circular footing
Unnecessarily complicated video
