Halo 4's story is fantastic, I love that it gave chief some inner life, even if we only see glimpses of it. I've seen a lot of people complain that it was too melodramatic, but honestly, I thought it was well done. That ending was heartbreaking though, felt like a bit of my childhood dying.
What made it even better was that it was based off the game director's own experience of watching his mother suffer from Alzheimers. He based Cortana's degradation off of his mothers, and Chief's helplessness off of his own. Hurts, man.
It was a hot take at the time because of how different it was from what we were used to but I would say art style aside, halo 4 had a great campaign all around and was absolutely carried by its story especially, despite a few glaringly obvious plot holes. Unfortunately it felt like the plot holes were a sign of halo sliding downwards
Chief was born 46 years prior to Halo 4. Biologically however, he is more likely in his mid to late 30's given the amount of time he has spent in cryostasis in his lifetime.
And technically he is still in his prime, because no Spartan has died of old age and the ones who have died it has always been in battle. Who knows when does a Spartan actually starts to age and how long can one live
The halo 4 scenes were the best case ever made for a cinematic release. That scene with Captain Lasky and Chief was such a movie level gem, it gave me goosebumps to see it. That soldiers and people line was so well done. Chief spews out his line mechanically. Thoughtlessly. Automatically as though reciting a phrase drilled into his mind during training as a child. Expecting a yeehaw yes soldier response, chief snapped a look over in shock when the captain dismissed that thoughtless blurting and seemed slightly disappointed. He realized his efforts to console John were moot. John’s training over a lifetime has imprinted his mind to remove his own humanity. Lasky came to help. Tried to console him as a fellow human being standing by another who is experiencing grief. John instead snapped out of it, straightened his posture and went into machine mode. Gah. This and the scene where Cortana mourned the loss of those who were disintegrated. Beautiful. Belongs on the silver screen.
Yesss, my only concern is that Hollywood wouldn't see the nuance and depth present in Halo, and would only pay attention to the veneer of sci-fi space shoot-em-up. Chief is an absolutely badass character but he's also a very broken and tragic character when you really stop to think about it.
@@BlargeMan I share that concern, I think they have a way to accomplish both. In the first three installments, give us the boom bam bang action with some emotion. The military strategies. The true grit and cost of battle. The ranks of the UNSC and ONI. In the next, give us the deeply tragic background. Go back in time. Let us see young John. The John who loved his momma. All the little ones. Show us dr Halsey. Get into the horrors, culminating in the acquisition of John and Sam, all of them. There’s a beautifully rendered animated version of this story.
Do you guys know that it was Lord Hood who fired Del rio if you look at the audio logs during the mission Infinity it was said that Infinity was headed to Cairo station where Lord Hood resides.
Not to make you any sadder about Cortana being gone, but I always thought that the end scene carries a lot more weight than people think. It's not just Master Chief being sad that Cortana is gone, remember what he promised Sgt. Johnson in Halo 3? "Don't let her go, don't EVER let her go" His friends final words to him. And in that moment, Chief thinks he failed, not just Cortana, but one of his only true friends and comrades final wishes. Glad you finally got around to it, and it gets me every time I play Halo 4. ;-; Keep on playing Halo, the journey is well worth it (even if I agree that Halo 5 is not the greatest)
Cortana could finally touched her husbando. Yeah the ending was pretty sad ngl. Since that's now done I'll be excited to see you reacting to the terminals
The movie "forward into dawn" will give you Laskey's backstory with chief and why it's weird to be called " sir" by him. Also, the "nightfall" movie takes place between H4 and H5
Just for your Info and to avoid confusion in the future, -the Didact is not dead, he fell in the orange slipspace portal below that the composer used to transfer the data of peoples, a comic book show a part of what happens to him but the current status is "nobody knows where or what the fuck he's up to". -One key point that is unfortunately not clear in the ending, is that the Mantle's approach (Didact's ship) was not destroyed, just damaged. 45:08 That weapon is called the suppressor, and it’s supposed to be used at a close range in fully automatic mode. I legitimately don’t know why you keep trying to use it at a medium to long range in bursts. It doesn’t have the damage potential to be effective that way.
I like your videos because you ask questions. You also don't seem to shy away from sharing what you're feeling. I hope you're coping well with your anxiety ❤️💜
There’s a book called Halo epitaph which is a story on the Didacts redemption after he died. It’s a good read or listen since the Didacts voice actor reads in the audiobook version
You gotta react to Halo : the fall of reach the animated movie. It released in 2015 and it shows the backstory of John and the Spartan 2’s. You have to watch it and react to it before playing Halo 5 because it’s really important. And you won’t get a strike for it :)
You're planning to play Halo 5 on Xbox? the sad thing it's not added in the MCC for PC idk why 343 did it exclusively for Xbox, but if you have already a copy and one xbox, it's a decent sequel for the Halo Lore, although I don't like a bit the art style of the game.
I can't be the only one that loathes the Broadsword part? The turrets aren't difficult, the moving walls are easy to dodge... but I keep crashing head-on into the tiny needle thin antenna things everywhere. 😭
Halo 4 is not my favourite one but okay it wasnt that bad. I play Halo since 2001 when it came for the first xbox and i will always have Halo 1-3 in my heart :D
Halo 4 wasnt my favorite campaign gameplay-wise, but the story was fantastic. I wish 343 had continued in this vector for 5 instead of what they ended up doing. The epilogue here showed promise. Such a shame 343 chose not to capitalize on it
Even though I've heard people say it's really bad, I hope they still port it to pc cause watching it on youtube seems lame since I don't have a console.
Hey Morgan! Congrats, you finished halo 4!! And the master chief collection. I think you missed that captain Del Rio got fired for abandoning you on requiem, and can’t believe you only died 5 times at the flying section, I was expecting at least 10 crashes, you’ve improved your driving skills in halo, but can’t believe you struggle when you were jumping through portals. Are you really gonna buy an Xbox one for halo 5?! It’s ill advised if you ask me. F for Cortana Morgan, do you think it was a good send off of her? And one last thing, this mission was also bugged, you had that light above your screen which is your scope dot

True. His real age physically is 42 in H4.
That and Spartans literally barely age because of the modifications.
And technically he is still in his prime, because no Spartan has died of old age and the ones who have died it has always been in battle. Who knows when does a Spartan actually starts to age and how long can one live
Now he is 50

I always cheese over the fact they straight up fired Del Rio for abandoning the Chief 😂🤣

Most satisfying moment of Halo 4. “The brass didn’t take it lightly to him abandoning you on Requiem.” Lasky’s the best.

36:36 That right there is my favorite piece of music in ALL of Halo 4. It is just so beautiful and epic.
personly I prefer 117 but arrival is still a great song
Sounds more Mass Effect than Halo, but is a good song nonetheless.
It’s my 2nd favorite in Halo 4 just behind 117. It’s phenomenal still!

Lasky's words hurt deep in The Master chief soul
the ending was emotional AF! The music just makes it more sad and great
For 343s first halo it was dark and pretty good I loved the first time it was released it was crazy glad you played this
The movie "forward into dawn" will give you Laskey's backstory with chief and why it's weird to be called " sir" by him.

Almost all of it except his eyes
don't worry, when i get to the end of the epilogue I put that face on too xd
If you play the campaign on legendary difficulty, you get to see a small glimpse of Chief’s eyes.
i only dislike halo 4s enemy leveling and parts of gameplay. the story was fantastic and emotionally impacting.
