    I always love a person who will readily admit their mistakes. It is one of the best qualities one could have. This is the first video I am seeing from you. But subscribed.

    Fantastic! Greatly agree that it's just as interesting (if not more) to hear what didn't go well than what did go well.

    It was nice to hear of the properties of polycarbonate vs glass. Thanks

    Great ideas... We need to rebuild well fix our front porch... It is all windows but meant to be used as a cold room in the winter... 100 years ago they used these indoor outdoor rooms to keep the meat frozen so it's not on the right side of the house for a greenhouse.... Ideas tho I'm into

    I'm starting a build on my own passive solar greenhouse and would love to take your course, but I have to put every penny into the build. I'm doing a hybrid 30×80 using ideas from citrus in the snow, Chinese passive, Ceres, and Curtis's design. Sunk 5' on a slope w/ inflated poly, earth tubes, passive venting, gray water w/ auqaponics and roll up insulation.. Hoping to have it filled with cbd hemp next year. Zone 4. Thanks for all you're doing.

    I've invented light reflecting insulation shutters that mount on the inside and flip up insulation panels for the outside. Hit me up, I'll send over some schematics.
    Winter overheated daytime air can be drawn off the ceiling and pumped into ground for night time release.
    DIY Air Crete has unusual properties of insulation and thermal mass. Check out Honey Do Carpenter, he has some knowledge that would benefit you.

    What about setting up a pellet feeder for the rocket stove?

    For some different and potentially better rocket mass heater designs check out the broaudio YT channel which is the home of Walker Stoves.
    He has some amazing examples of stoves including batch loaded stoves which only require filling every 1-2 hours.

    I thought one of the biggest appeals of rocket heaters is that you don't have to feed them very often. What am I missing?

    I didn't understand the reason to grow in "real" ground. If the soil in the container has too low of cation exchange capacity, it would be simple to alter it. not so easy with the ground. I suspect it has to do with lack of microbial life (and the whole system that produce natural fertilizers) in the container, but that could also be remedied.

    • @acctsys
      @acctsys 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That the bed is made from IBC, which is translucent, may be a factor. Microbes hate light.

    • @kirkjohnson9353
      @kirkjohnson9353 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also beds in the ground are much more stable in temperature than above ground beds. Above ground beds get really cold when its cold and hot when its hot. Also, the temperature fluctuates a great deal more because it is not well connected to the thermal mass of the earth.

      Oh? Im interested to know how you prevented overheating. I was battling that just a bit ago in some air sealed mini greenhouses. AC could barely keep up

    Love your channel. I have learned a lot from you. However, I don’t like the “passive energy” craze being pushed when people are using “petroleum and petrochemical” products to live the lifestyle they’re living. The vapor barrier in the solar panels is made from 1113 chloral-tetra-fluoride. To make it oil must be refined and the byproducts of the oil must be refined just to get the feedstock to make it. Without it solar cells would not work. If you want to push passive energy then get rid of all your plastic, rubber, and anything else made from oil and gas products as fuel ie no perfect lumber, no modern roads, no mass produced steel, etc. If we go back to wood for heat we would deplete our forests quickly and our pollution would go up. Oh and get rid of modern medicine it just wouldn’t exist. Your guest as an engineer should know better.
