I grew up without a/c… so when I moved to Florida… I froze in any place that had a/c… fast forward to 37 years living in Florida… I can’t imagine my life without A/c … I love heat more than cold, but love that if I get too hot, I can get in the a/c and cool off. I keep my house at 77 during the day, but at night I set the a/c at 68 because I am going through menopause…. And I still have night sweats 😩

Breaks my heart to hear that story of your step dad and the AC. I’m sorry you dealt with that. How can parents be so awful to children. You turned out to be such an amazing person despite it. You’re awesome and should be proud. ❤️

Omg…I did bone in pork chops in the air fryer for the first time. 12 minutes at 400° with a flip halfway. I have never had a pork chop so JUICY, as I am notorious for over cooking them. Yum!!!

Yes, a vacation with kids is actually a business trip and not a vacation. I am glad you enjoyed visiting Kansas City. I live in a major suburb of Kansas City on the Kansas side. Today is cooler and cloudy, but the heat is returning in a couple days. Safe travels for your business trips.

Totally agree about the washer! Front loaders are awful. I have an old-school Speed Queen top loader. That thing is a workhorse! I swear I could mix cement in it.

In the 1960’s cars didn’t come with AC. I remember my stepdad going to Sears and having an AC unit out in his car as we were driving down to VA for a family vacation. I didn’t have AC in a car until I bought my 1992 Ford Escort and my first apartment to have Central AC until 1992. So I can relate to your AC stories. Are they doing a lot of road construction in your state? Every road in SE MI is tire up! It’s so hard to get around when they do that. In Michigan they say there are two seasons, Winter and Construction Season. Hopefully they will fix the roads correctly this time, especially since they got all this money from the Federal Government for the pandemic. Great video Jen. I can’t believe how fast the Summer is going. I am with you on the front load washing machine. I heard they can get a funky smell that can transfer to your clothing. I will stick with the top loader . Thanks Jen.

Thank you so much for sharing, it's always a treat and I give your videos a thumbs up before I even watch them. But just a side note, what goes on at the doggie kennel? Why is Murphy so worn out, are they not feeding him, poor baby hunting for stray french fries..... He had a big smile, so I should stop jumping to conclusions 🐶🥰🥰

I ONLY make baked potatoes in the air fryer now. In 30 minutes I have 6 baked potatoes ready (for my family of 6!) Takes so much longer in the oven and heats up the whole house which I refuse to do during these hot Kansas City summers. 🥵

What horrible childhood memories. Sorry about that Jen. Isn’t it interesting that you say you won’t do what your parents did and be like them? I had pretty good parents, although my mom was a control freak (yes, I had a parent like that too) but her controlling really didn’t show up until I was closer to adult. It showed up in different ways. She didn’t’ make us suffer in the heat but she was always finding other ways to control. We had an in-window fan and an air conditioner that my dad put in in May and took it out in September
My parents spanked me. I said I would never do that to my child. I actually did it one time when Trevor was in 3rd grade. I cried for hours after. Swore I would never d it again, I never did.
My washer broke on the first day of my staycation,. We ordered a new one the other day. I still went with top load (I agree it is better) and it has some bells and whistles. Getting it delivered this Thursday. Yeah. Been to the laundromat 2x in the last 2 weeks, Can’t wait to be able to do my own laundry again.
I read cookbooks in bed too! Right now I am reading the latest Good Eats book from Alton Brown. Just finished the latest Sam The Cooking Guy book. So much fun. I can’t wait to get cooking!

I have front loaders with the bases because I am disabled and it is perfect height for my wheelchair. My dogs were always exhausted after coming home from the kennel. They don't rest well away from home. Poor Murphy! Yes, min's don't get a break when on a family vacation. I do not miss traveling for work at all!

My mom turned the AC off at night even if it was 100+ during the day. We got wash cloths wet and just moved it around on our skin and sat in front of the fan. 🤣😂
Was just in England during the heat wave. No AC where we were staying. Ugh. It's often over 100 degrees in the summer where I live but have AC everywhere.

Not a fan either or side loaders. They need so much maintenance and the seal get so nasty and moldy and they have more issues.

Our youngest son lived in Kansas City for around 3 years. He moved up there for work straight from college. We went up there one time and visited with him. Was able to meet his colleagues and attend a Kansas City Royals baseball game. It was very hot also but also got very cold there in the winter. He decided to move closer to home because of the cold and most of the travel he did was in the very cold winter months where he had to climb up on the roofs of buildings to check to make sure everything was connected correctly for the internet and freezers for the software to boot up correctly when they upgraded to newer software. He froze his hinny off because he was used to our Alabama weather but learned very quickly to bundle up! Hope you have a great trip to Alabama when you come.

The trick to the front loader machines is to have the “risers” to lift them up to the right height. Basically it is a drawer that the machines sit on top of. I love my front loaders and have had them for about 8 years. Glad you had a good trip to JC-we were there in April for a wedding and had fun. We love Jack Stack and Gates BBQ.

You do it well and you make it work beautifully! I'm so sorry your Step-dad was such a jerk. I had an ex-husband that sounds similar in different ways. "Control" seemed to be his motto. Anyway, glad you're home safe and sound! I loved the pictures you showed. Your son is growing up so fast! Such a cutie! We haven't gotten to see your dear daughter lately! I had to get a new washer about 4 years ago mine was on its way out, couldn't find one with an agitator anywhere. I look for months. I finally gave up. Had to by one without an agitator. It still gets the clothes clean you can wash more clothes at one time (no agitator in the middle, more room) The only down side is your clothes end up in a ball and you have to untangle them everytime. ❤️ from Canada 🇨🇦.

You should write a book about your life. It could be encouragement to sooooo many people. It would let them know to be strong and that they do not have to succumb to their bad childhood experiences. You are a great example of what perseverance looks like. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
