  • In this episode of Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools, we are going to talk about the Waldorf Rocket. Is this analog digital hybrid from hell just another piece of Bad Gear that sneaked into my life?

I seriously loved those plugins, especially the filter which had a overdrive that could go so much "over" that I am running out of ways to describe it. You could probably break speakers with it. I bought 2nd versions to get a nostalgy trip, which are more tempered but still crazy.
Considering this 2nd edition Waldorf Collection is easily available, cheap, it has VERY usable emulation of PPG 2.3 and Attack, it is very much under the radar of everyone, it would definately make sense to make episode from the both editions.

@@7177YT It's worth checking out the demos of the patch sets Waldorf sell for the Blofeld. They show it can cover a broad range of sounds. I totally agree with you. I own a Waldorf rocket and is one of my favorites synths. It's really straightforward. The arpegiattor with a delay is amazing and with just a little tweeking you can have nice leads and bass sounds. If I had to sell my equipment I would keep it until the end. I like your videos your reviews are objective. You don't let people influence your judgement. Objectivity is rare nowadays. People thinks with emotion and are obsessed with analog.

I see the Zoom FX still in good use. I was going to get one of these but ended up getting a PiSound hat and case to run MOD UI from Blokas. Not a hardware based solution but this is amazing for price. The setup with Pi and case is about 200 euro. But you get over 300 sound FX, synths and MIDI tools that you can patch in lots of crazy ways. And once you set it up to run in MOD UI mode it just boots up in seconds and is ready to go like hardware standalone. And pressing the button switches between presets of FX patches. You can patch and edit the FX with any browser on the same wifi; I use a hotspot on smart phone and connect for laptop to that same hotspot and patch away. This setup gives stereo in and out and midi in and out, patch the midi in MOD UI for thru, input gain knob and level knob, plus the button that is programmable. It has low latency and on a Pi 4 4gb lots of power and memory, not hit limits with some crazy patching running off 5v USB. And can run at 192k, for tighter latency but less resources - for a tight guitar FX unit. I currently use in on the output of a Lyra 8 for crazy reverb, and I am thinking of getting a few more for other instruments. Best 200 euro I have spent - apart from that time in Amsterdam, but we don't talk about that. This is really just a ModDevices MOD Duo X for a faction of the price.

When I started recording all we had was just the fostex, 4 track tape recorders and maybe a dr sample if one could find it at a store/..... however i know even that wasnt as bad nor primitive as it can get, heck i did some great mixing that way....
Oh that moment where you mess up the last part of the song and have to re record the whole take lolololololll

because A ) that is Genious, it gives a constant reference point- while highlighting whatever you are using.
      B) because its interactive people then like to listen to the intro, ( it is catchy too:)
C)It shows that ANYTHING can be used JUST ABOUT if the WILL is there. Why do people hate the Waldorf Rocket again? It sounds great! Is it because it doesn't have a standard ADSR? A lot of synths don't. My Behringer Wasp clone has the weirdest filter/adsr I've ever used but that's what makes it sound unique.

I am kinda liking the rocket. Is it bad gear??
I think you sold me on a piece of bad gear finally. I keep tossing the tomcat from akai in my head too. So bad i like it.
I have a stomp box ment to send vocals to midi notes into a keyboard, which if used as intended isn't that great. However if I run a synth without midi into it, then the midi out from it into my phrase lab in bass mode, then run my talking machine stomp box off the phrase lab audio out I can get crazy robot chorus lines going with my synth.
