I'd NEVER heard this kind of music and was completely unprepared for it :) Someone just said I should buy it, so I did... Shpongle is incapable of creating bad music. Every single track of every single album is a true timeless masterpiece that takes time for average brain to grasp. so much creativity so much talent, so much art. Thank you Simon, thank you Raja. I wish I can see you in a concert before I die.
20+ years after and having listened to this album thousands of times from start to finish it still is as breathtaking as it was the first time I listened to it.
When I was sexually assaulted 2 years ago, Shpongle (and weed) was my savior. It's amazing how I was able to get transported to another dimension just by slipping on some headphones and laying in the dark.

and thus a new genre of music was born. 'Are You Shpongled?' remains one of the group's timeless masterpieces. it would not surprise me if musical scholars add Shpongle to their repertoire of selections to study many years from now.
@@em7dim9 What other artists in 1996 were creating music like Shpongle? "Combinations of psychedelia, electronica, and world music" could refer to so much music that is not remotely like the sound the duo pioneered and that can be easily found today. Posford/Ram's music itself varies wildly between tracks and albums, and that's a distinguishing qualifier for me. Genres/sub-genres are kind of a pointless distinction anyway due to their subjective nature. Categorize music how you want: Shpongle-like music falls under a Shpongle umbrella for me. If it simply falls under a blend of styles for you then hey that's cool too.
Absolutely amazing. Thank you for decades of enjoyment. I went to a few Hallucinogen concerts in the Bay decades ago and someone told me about this collaboration. Sincerely, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this!
Haven't listened this for years, probably because as a teen at some point I listened this album probably hundreds of times. Still just as awesome as back in the days.
As someone who had heard of Shpongle before but first listened to this particular album on mushrooms, I can confirm that their music is indeed MADE to be listened to while tripping. It all just sounded exponentially more beautiful, I noticed so many patterns I never would've picked up on sober, and at one point I could actually feel the beats of the music (forget which song) in a sensation that I could only describe as "green". As in I literally felt like the color green was embracing me with all of its love (coincidentally or not my pillow & sheets were green). And I remember my Shpongled self thought 52:28 & 54:23 were the funniest thing ever, I'd never laughed so hard in my life.
I partially agree, because yes there is a huge difference in listening to shpongle while on psychedelics compared to sober, but i don't think that it is made only to be listened while tripping. What i mean by that is that once you have explored psychedelics with music a lot you learn what weird things you can experience and those things will never disappear, so when you listen to this type of music when sober you can remember those states and experience them again in a less intense way of course but you still can "understand" the shpongolese language. In my opinion every time you use psychedelics you open a door but that door never closes completely after the effect vanishes (unlike other non-psychedelic drugs).
Thank you so much! you are the only one who uploads these albums without the ads. on my laptop i have adblock no problem, but thanks to you i can listen to this on my phone while going to sleep, thank you!
