Non-bladesmiths don't truly appreciate just how much time and effort goes into making sure each project is carefully, and repeatedly dropped. After looking around the shop for that thing that was in your hand just 5 seconds ago, it's the most important part of the job.
Or setting up the hardy tool or press die or whatever to be in the perfect position so you can immediately get to work as soon as your steel comes out of the forge... Only for it to immediately get knocked on the floor or out of alignment.

Red Bull definitely needs to sponsor your channel! Good project - we used one growing up on the farm to break down not only hogs but also deer and elk.
In New Zealand we call these slashers: basically a machete with an axe handle. Many are made by cutting a leaf out of the springs of an old Landrover, then heating it with a gas torch and hammering it flat, then grinding an edge. The steel has vanadium in it, so holds an edge well.
I'm a blacksmith and custom knife maker myself and almost 20 years ago I traded a guy a couple of my knives for one of those but it was made for splitting cattle and it's about twice the size of the one you made and it was made in the early 1900's. I love huge blades like that. Your's will definitely make short work of splitting a hog. Great job and I just subbed!
ash is a great choice for a handle not as hard as some thing like hickory but planty good for strength wise its just a bit more springy and won't beat your hands up as much

@@MartinHuber_Knives I drop shit every day when i'm in the shop. I blew a billet off the back end of my air power hammer and it landed on the air hoses and it was like a slapping contest with Jackie Chan. Thank whoever I had the tongs still in my hand.

@MartinHuber_Knives I hope you have made some more Hubers with your woman. I have no male heirs here in the Lebensraum of Mystery Babylon. We have some Hubers in Nicaragua. Probably more places. -"Is it a knife or an axe?" -"Yes" It's a beauty! With a knife like this you could bring down a boar, butcher it and prepare a meal all with that one blade. Awesome stuff :)
In my early days of hog butchering, my blade was much bigger. 3/8" tang and blade spine wide, 18" × 1-1/2" tang with 18" wood handle, and 33" × 10" blade. Honed from 2" from the spine. Gotten love family farm child labor.
