- It's the May long weekend and there is a storm on the way.
The 430km Buckshot Route is difficult enough on it's own... now add freezing rain, malicious hail, cruel snow and lashing winds. What will break down first? Mind, body or bike?
The resolve and will-power of over 70 cyclists will be put to the test against a violent weather system, a brutal course and a lineup of some of the fiercest competitors around.
This event is completely self-supported and unofficial. Individuals are entirely responsible for themselves.

Dude that was sooo good! You definitely undersold how difficult you had it during the last hours of the race, seeing it here I’m just wowed at how strong you finished with so many curveballs thrown your way!
Ah man, thanks Kodi! Looking back now, I feel like there is maybe more I could have done to stay competitive, but I'm also so happy with how things turned out. Also as happy as I am for your incredible finish!
Wow. You finished 11 hours ahead of me and managed to film a documentary in the process.
"I knew it was going to be rainy and cold, but it hits different when you get rainy and cold" Great stuff, seriously great video, definitely gets me jazzed to get out there. Amazing work!
What a great way to start the weekend, reliving the shared misery of Buckshot 2024. Great work Mike!
Such amazing work Mike! Those conditions looked brutal!
Thanks Chris! Definitely a night and day difference from the furnace condition the year before! You never know what you're going to get with The Buckshot.
That was so nice to see, congratulation on your race and you documentary!
That was awesome! Thanks for that!!
You're incredible! This filming and production are amazing - I'm not sure how you found the space to film given those conditions. Wow! Such tough luck with the mechanicals. Figure it was the cold temps that drained your AXS batteries? I rode the entire BC Epic on a single AXS battery last year! Must have been the cold, eh? Favourite moment: Robyn's videobomb "WE'RE HAVING A DECENT TIME!" Good on you for even completing that. Looked like a scratch in Pritchard and just saying "fugg it!" would have been what most would have done. Sweet vid, Mike.
You're so kind Steve! Thanks man.
Definitely wasn't the cold. It started to exhibit issues early in the day after the first mud bath. It would downshift completely fine, but shifting up to large cogs would take 5-7 seconds. I think it was taxing the motor for these shifts, and drank the battery infinitly faster than normal. Very strange. It's working fine now too... so who knows.
Missed you out there buddy!
Thanks Mike, as someone who dropped out around km 100km it was nice to see what the rest of the course was like! I'm considering heading to Cranbrook for Lost Elephant so maybe I'll see ya there.
DO IT!! 🐘
Well done Mike!! You even had a taste of the singlespeeding life. 😆 We limp like a sad puppy all the time. 😭🐕Haha!! Great job gutting it out and not showing even a hint of giving up. 💪💪
Dean, I thought of you ALOT that morning. I don't know how you SS folks do it. Your knees must be made of titanium. That slow cadence pedaling did a number on me... and it was only like 2.5 - 3 hours.
Thinking of doing that for the whole 🐘 blows my small mind. I salute you sir 🫡
@@YetiAdventure Ha! SS is kind of addicting once you get into it. 😄
Tough weather conditions, strong ride! Big ride for anyone! Enjoyed your editing and commentary.
Thanks so much for capturing this event! Excellent editing and story telling. It's so nice to see what you guys really go through out there. Watching the trackers never does it justice.
Kodi and Robyn, you guys are amazing.
Such a great film Mike! Robyn "we're having a decent time 😀👍", love it.
Right? Robyn makes every ride better. It's definitely a fact!
Awesome video!
Morning coffee and watching this film. Great job!
Chefs Kiss! Well done Mike!
So, so good. Seeing all the rain, snow, mud and cold makes me feel so much less FOMO ;) Riding with Robyn is such a treat though. Congrats on the strong finish despite the mechanicals!!
Thank you so much Julie! Don't worry about the FOMO at all! It was a pretty brutal one. Riding with Robyn was definitely the highlight... what a guy! Hope you're doing awesome!
Nice video again!!
Really enjoy all your videos . Congrats on overcoming adversity and getting a sub 24 hour finish
Much appreciated Scott! Thanks!
10/10 Mike. Excellent editing and filmaking! Made me so sad to miss it again :'(
Also - I agree. The section through the Douglas Lake ranch was awesome..... Until that winter storm......
What a race ❄️
Beautiful film!! I’m not exactly sure how you ride such a tough race, and ALSO create a gorgeous film in the midst of all it, but I’m impressed!!
Thanks Cuz! Wouldn't be doing these long rides without your nudging years ago. Stoked you were view #1!
nice job, tough conditions, I was supposed to ride it this year, but got sick badly in late April, I guess it saved me from a chilly experience!
Well done! 👍 This was quite the adventure!
Amazing feat and spectacular filming!
Such a great video as usual, Mike! Great perseverance to get through all of that!
Thanks Ray! It was a gooder! It's almost hilarious how the Buckshot always gets an extra weather difficulty modifier. I love it.
You finished only 20 minutes behind your buddies, at least you didn't fall to far behind. The last league still must have been lonely though.
It felt like a long stretch for sure, but I was pretty focused on just not breaking another chain, so I completely forgot I was alone. Was so relieved to roll into town still pedaling!
So many "good" memories.... LOL. Really enjoyed watching it. See you at the EPIC start line this year?
Thanks Mike! No Epic for me. I've got a few other rides I'd love to sample not enough time as it is. Hope you guys have a lovely race though!
Awesome … thanks Mike. Good thing Grandma didn’t see you drain that Coke 😀
😂 Oh NO!! I need to delete this whole video now. I don't want to lose my Cortes privileges over that illicit video evidence!
Amazing effort. I always wonder if it's worth running electric gears. I own 2 bikes with electric gears but for these endurance races it makes me wonder if it's worth it or not..
Thanks Paul!
It's hard to say. I'm sure it was just bad luck. I've had a decent track record with AXS so far. The alarming thing is that the Derailleur seems fine now. Doesn't inspire confidence...
Cheers!
I think those kids cokes on an “unsupported” race can be considered “support” ….. need to look at the rules in detail … you need to be careful with the little things that may seem harmless
Haha! I got relegated so hard for that move. It was worth it though. 👌
