  • I started a nonprofit years ago, and this year, I resigned from my position as Executive Director. #Nonprofits #NonprofitCEO #nonprofitorganization
    In this video I want to explore - how do you know it’s time for you to move on from the nonprofit you started as its founder? I’ll share my personal experiences and thought process.
    If you are starting or growing a nonprofit, thinking about it, or have just started a nonprofit, or KNOW someone who is trying to start a nonprofit, I hope this helps!

    Very good spirits! Devoted to the nonprofit, knowing when to move on and train a new leader is the role of a true leader. That is excellent for the health and perpetual continuation of the organization! Knowing when to let go is not easy. A true leader has the compassion to lead and to train successors for the well being of others. You have my respect and support

    Amber, you are very brave to reflect so honestly, openly, and vulnerably about your experiences. Your sharing supports your followers in their ideas and desires to make and/or keep their lives meaningful (for themselves and others). You are an amazing leader.
    Speaking from the standpoint of parenthood, I think a parent's job includes teaching their children how to be self-sufficient. Good parents encourage their children to realize their ideas are worthwhile enough to pursue, which supports higher levels of self-confidence and esteem. Then, the parent allows their child the freedom to fly - and try... Parenthood is leadership.
    Good teachers and mentors also build leadership in their students and proteges, then allow them the freedom to fly - and try...
    An entrepreneur brings their ideas and passions to a target audience/need/market. We might start as we first imagined it, with our passion the initial and driving force. The general idea/passion may not change throughout the course of its life, but our methods may change. Times change. Understanding changes. Skills change. Resources change. Experiences change us. We soon realize so many new ways to express our passions and help others by sharing them. As each phase of our business matures, we might allow ourselves the freedom to keep that phase and add to it, or replace it with something better.
    Nothing is lost. We just keep finding more and different ways to impact others. That is personal growth.
    Kudos to you, Amber, for recognizing the need to grow and for generously giving your organization the freedom to fly - and try.
    You've built a wonderful foundation as a parent would, taught and mentored others as leaders, added to it and grown as an entrepreneur would.
    There is so much passion and life ahead of you. No doubt whatever you bring next will have a positive impact on those who's lives you've touched by your efforts (followers, peers, friends) and those who have yet to find the gems you share.
    Best wishes from a long-time admirer. 😊

    Amber, you are a very self-aware individual. I appreciate you giving very good reasons of why to leave and start something new. Since you are the founder of your organization, you don't owe anyone an explanation. I am feeling like you currently are but I report to a manager who has helped me out. I resonate with some of your reasons, not aligning and wanting to move onto something new. Yet I havent found any new jobs yet. I still want to resign so I can rest and recover. What's a good way to do that?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I would analyze what's currently holding you back - is it fear of letting someone down, fear of not knowing what to do, the financial issue?

    • @adammorra3813
      @adammorra3813 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @AmberMelanieSmith yes mostly fear of failure and fear of the unknown. Would be a great idea for another video on how to get over the fear when you are ready to start something new.
