I am Brazilian, VW has been in Brazil since the decade of 50. No place in the world the VW bus has been in production for as long as here. Same happened with VW Beetle. Here as everywhere in the world has good parts, good manufacturers and also the bad ones. Empi buys millions of products from Brazil, suspensions, etc. And it sells very expensive. Excellent block made through the company's Auto Linea. So I say with conviction if you search well you get good parts with fair price made in Brazil. Nobody did VW like we do. I'm not good at english hope you understand.

Good morning, CT from sunny Spain (even in October). I follow your channel since you bought the T1, even when you were with the one that was even in worse condition and I see that you are doing a wonderful job teaching. I had never seen a Vw engine cooled by disassembled air, and in fact I see that it is certainly simpler than other engines of its same generation as those manufactured by Citröen at the same time (2cv, GS-a, Visa) which, although quite Reliable do not reach the soles made by the Teutons. On the other hand I follow several restorations of T1 simultaneously, that of a boy with golden deaf and dull hair (and surfer) who worked especially well to cut the rusty sheet, but has sent the bus to a specialized workshop to weld all the new parts well , or that woman who has embarked on your same adventures with her T1 panel van, and the other handyman (and your friend :-D) who is the great Duckman, who has made so many modifications to his old bus that is already something else staff that a "simple" restoration. I hallucinate in how he alone cuts, welds and modifies freehand parts of the frame that a VW engineer would have taken months of calculations to dare to perform outside the drawing board. And I wait for each chapter of your restorations enjoying today's 38-minute video tutorial, in which that great mechanic (and restorer) who accompanies you. You lose your fear of the electric saw hehehehe ... that all parts are manufactured from T1.Here many utilities are restored such as the Seat 600, which is the favorite for it and some businessmen who come to restore some old bus of the greats, or trucks of the Spanish brand Pegaso (the cars they made are mythical today) .Greetings and thousands of likes that I wish you.

Not trying to step on any toes or anything with the following.
The only problem with putting new bearings in is variation of the thickness of the bearing which changes the bearing I.D. Gotta mic out the bearing and crank shaft journals, and rod big end diameter without bearing, because they are all built with a tolerance. ie .0005 +/-. When assembled and torqued you can be out of spec either too tight or too loose. :/
Also that assembly lube is for 2 strokes? Specifically the crank rod and bearings which are encased separately from the gear box and lubricated by the mix from the fuel.
Might want to use a normal engine assembly lube for 4 strokes/motor vehicle engines. You can tell the difference, it's viscosity is much higher(thick/sticky).
But super cool it's going together! Hope it works out well :)

For someone using it daily for a company this is the tool. Too bad though it's not reversible. Probably to keep it calibrated correctly is my guess. Going in reverse might screw it up unlike a conventional manual torque wrench or what we called a clicker.

i had never used a torque wrench, subsequently i didn't sense the 10# on one of the smaller case bolts, long story short i had to have what remain removed by a machine shop...tech tip back then was outlining the case with a strand of thread (old motorcycle trick i was told)did this on the kitchen table with my then girl friend, we put this rebuilt in her oval window 1957...some 5 yrs later i owned a 64 ford station country sedan wagon with a 360 and the warmest heater

    Hi, CT.
Nice to help you Dennis. I have one or two, three... questions. Did you take the right torques?
I think I remember that the connecting rod bearings were tightened with 5 MKg = 49,033 Nm = 36,1651 ft-lb (Dennis took 23 ft-lb). For the engine block, I think it was 35 Nm = 25.8147 ft-lb (Dennis took 22 ft-lb +-). Did you follow that again? Because you can't see everything in the video.
Did you also measure the axial play of the crankshaft, or do you do this only when the complete engine is assembled? There are always several ways to do it. Are only questions and no criticism. Otherwise I like what I see.
    Greetings from Germany
    also to Dennis

Notice that here, in my country, old Amilcar engines from the 20s have been restored, which even with a break in the block caused by a connecting rod break (and solved with a metal plate and rivets in remote times) was repaired in this decade successfully. They had in a forum of restorations, that many years ago there were people with the ancient cars of the 10s and 20s, they carried a small mold and material to redo the connecting rod and crankshaft bushings on the lost European roads of the hand of God

    • @CTmoog
