I lived there in the late '90's. It was very hard to find a job as many UGA grads wanted to stay in town and got jobs there. Downtown Athens is great. I loved the atmosphere and you could also meet interesting people like visiting professors. The music scene was still pretty good. I have visited there from time to time since, most recently Summer of 2022. They closed the Varsity and are turning it into a Publix. That's the first thing I noticed. Seeing that kind of threw me off for the rest of the time there (I was only there for a couple of days). Downtown is still great. Creature Comforts brewery is cool. They moved DePalma's. The Holiday Inn downtown where I usually stay is no longer there. There was also so much traffic on 316, In the 90's 316 was only busy on game day.
I just heard that The Taco Stand closed, too. That was one reason I was going to visit (well, and to see my brother, too). That was the best fast Mexican ever.
What is the growing zone? Would I be able to maintain a flower garden?

Lol!! This is so funny to me! I'm from Athens, and HATE IT! The reason why I moved! But I know a lot off ppl love it!
I finally left, too, and it was the best thing I ever did. Unless you work at UGA, you won't be making any money. There are still a lot of clubs, but I don't think the music scene is anything like it was when I was there. I do know there was a lot of hell-raising and partying -- most of the successful musicians I knew moved away because of that (and so did I -- easy to get buried in).
I think this lady must be a realtor as she doesn't want to answer any questions but tells people to call her.
Final: don't go to work for Amazon. They treat their sellers and employees like s*it.

Maybe you don't realize athens is in the south. Most people won't be moving "up there" but down there.

I love Athens, live in Utah now, and am seriously considering selling our home here and “buying down” to a small but solid, safe home with yard space and trees in Athens. Any help you could provide us as we search for a new home in Athens would be appreciated. Great videos!

I love Athens, but be prepared for crazy traffic, extreme summer heat, expensive housing, drunk college students downtown, and a school system full of fighting, teacher disrespect, weapons and drugs.
Not enough about the criminal mayor and board of elections. ACC manufactured over 14,000 votes in 2020 for both the presidential election and the senate runoff, both of which the democrat representatives actually lost. Amazingly, the mayor and BOE publicly admitted that ACC had a 107% voter turnout. I know math is tough for anyone under 40, but that means there were more votes than people in Athens. How much were they paid off? How much money did the incompetent criminal DA make to help foster this scheme? Also, you really should show more of the poor neglected colored communities, especially the ones just two blocks from City Hall. Girtz and Denson go there during election time for photo ops and to trade bottles of cheap gin for ballots. To take it further, video all the "Everyone is Welcome" sign in front of home around Virginia Ave and Boulevard..the communities that always vote down to share taxes to upgrade the colored schools. "Equality? Not on my taxes" said every house between Pulaski and Oglethorpe
