I visited Wire Park on a recent (APR 2024) visit to Athens. I saw apartments and/or townhouses going up opposite that bandstand area. But for a town that size, I was really suprised at the heavy volume if traffic passing thru town. I saw semi trailers and even log trucks passing thru downtown. Not sure I'd live there having to travel in heavy traffic to get to Athens every day.

Understood this info is 2yrs old....Housing cost are through the roof! Apartment Rental Rates...min $1800 one bd rm...I give you permission to dream of a $900 apartment 😊😊. Take note of the sales tax...not to mention the property tax....Please learn how to bend over and don't forget to bring your own vaseline. As of today...gas is $3.39 per gal. Oh if you love liberal policies, we have a place you can call home! Athens is a blend of the Old South and New South. A place where you can hear in the distant wind Hillary speaking with a southern accent. Its like falling in love all over again. Y'all come back now you hear!

I love Athens, but be prepared for crazy traffic, extreme summer heat, expensive housing, drunk college students downtown, and a school system full of fighting, teacher disrespect, weapons and drugs.

Cost: quote possibly soul and life. Athens is the South's version of cultish failure akin to Portland, Seattle. So much so, several of the washed up brats that helped ruin those cities moved to Athens so they could hire colored to clean their office/homes. Crime has never been hire since the criminal mayor was paid to sanction an unqualified sorry ass DA. But, he knows it covers himslef and the ACC DP form being prosecuted for their own crimes. There are several old houses that were houses of prostitution in the 30's-50's. Now it's City Hall, Mayor Girtz's and Chief Loser Denson's asses for sale.

Not enough about the criminal mayor and board of elections. ACC manufactured over 14,000 votes in 2020 for both the presidential election and the senate runoff, both of which the democrat representatives actually lost. Amazingly, the mayor and BOE publicly admitted that ACC had a 107% voter turnout. I know math is tough for anyone under 40, but that means there were more votes than people in Athens. How much were they paid off? How much money did the incompetent criminal DA make to help foster this scheme? Also, you really should show more of the poor neglected colored communities, especially the ones just two blocks from City Hall. Girtz and Denson go there during election time for photo ops and to trade bottles of cheap gin for ballots. To take it further, video all the "Everyone is Welcome" sign in front of home around Virginia Ave and Boulevard..the communities that always vote down to share taxes to upgrade the colored schools. "Equality? Not on my taxes" said every house between Pulaski and Oglethorpe

I'd say from '96-'02 this was my families summertime go to spot. I have so many memories from childhood. I haven't been in a while, so idk how it is now. We would go every weekend and any birthdays during the warmer months would be at Sandy Creek.

Maybe you don't realize athens is in the south. Most people won't be moving "up there" but down there.

I lived there in the late '90's. It was very hard to find a job as many UGA grads wanted to stay in town and got jobs there. Downtown Athens is great. I loved the atmosphere and you could also meet interesting people like visiting professors. The music scene was still pretty good. I have visited there from time to time since, most recently Summer of 2022. They closed the Varsity and are turning it into a Publix. That's the first thing I noticed. Seeing that kind of threw me off for the rest of the time there (I was only there for a couple of days). Downtown is still great. Creature Comforts brewery is cool. They moved DePalma's. The Holiday Inn downtown where I usually stay is no longer there. There was also so much traffic on 316, In the 90's 316 was only busy on game day.

I love Athens, live in Utah now, and am seriously considering selling our home here and “buying down” to a small but solid, safe home with yard space and trees in Athens. Any help you could provide us as we search for a new home in Athens would be appreciated. Great videos!
