Him giving such important things away was a BIG red flag for me when I first heard of this case, even more so than the drugs and the breakup. That was something that my health teacher in high school HAMMERED into us that if a friend starts giving important/expensive possessions away, you NEED to alert someone because they are likely planning to harm themselves. It's a red flag that is often missed and she wanted to make sure we didn't.

I try to tell everyone this. I had heard this years ago, and then my friend who did end up killing himself did that too a few months before taking his life. He gave everything away. It still hurts because we all thought he was giving everything away because he was moving back home with his parents and would have to fly on a plane to get there. Trust your gut. And dont feel bad if you arent able to catch the signs.

I’m only 26min in, but already he reminds me of myself in college. My parents were helicopter parents and I wasn’t allowed to do ANYTHING in high school. So when I went to college I went crazy, all kinds of drugs and alcohol daily. It messed up my mental health so badly that I stopped answering my parents daily calls, stopped going to class, and got agoraphobia and didn’t leave my dorm room for months except to go to the convenience store for ramen to eat. There were so many times I had the thought to just leave everything behind and become homeless in the woods (the college was in the mountains). I fantasized about going off grid and not telling anyone where I went or what happened to me. It’s so scary looking back and thinking about what damage I could’ve done to so many people by doing that.

I scouted areas planned everything even considered setting car on fire pushing the car over a cliff ironically called "worlds end" horse shoe pass. With extra blood scenery.
The things you consider when you have to escape a situation to survive and refuse to die.because staying would kill you.

I had a narcissistic stepmother who abused me and my dad, and made him abuse me...I almost tried to take my life, too, but I thought about it...I was 17. I had one year left - and couldn't I suffer for one more year, then be free? Could I hurt all these other people I cared about, and ruin my chance at a life of opportunity? You're right - you can survive, and you can escape. Death is NOT the answer.

This is fascinating to me. My partner was forced to go to college when he didn't want to (he had extremely controlling parents (dad and step mom)). He ended up drinking a ton and experimenting as an f u to them and ended up getting expelled. He had even crashed the car driving back home and didn't tell his parents, just drove home with major frame damage. He eventually moved out of state and blocked them completely from his life and to this day will not answer their calls and has changed his number many times to get them off his tracks. He says he wants no connection (possession wise or anything) connected to them so they can never hold anything over his head again and can finally live life how he wants to. He ultimately let his car get towed and lost custody of it to the diff state he moved to. His parents randomly got a letter saying the car was no longer owned by them. I can't help but see this in his case and my thoughts are with him. I think he is out there by choice and planned to clean up loose ends that connected him to his parents

I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that the dogs tracked his scent to the truck stop. Are there no cameras at the truck stop? Seems likely that he would've catched a ride with a trucker and gone wherever. I hope that, if he is alive, he is off somewhere living his own life, and is happy.

I grew up near the area Bryce went missing, and it’s not surprising there were no significant landmarks or road signs for him to identify where he was to his parents that night.
What’s always been odd to me about this case is the timing between the crash, and when it was called in to 911 was so short. Less than an hour? And, yet even with massive search efforts started almost immediately, he wasn’t found. It always suggested to me that he didn’t just walk away on foot. He either had a ride previously set up, or managed to get a ride somehow, in order to leave the scene so quickly.
Just makes you wonder about someone else being involved, and maybe originally he’d planned on telling his parents about whatever he had planned for his future. That was the “big news”. But, in the time spent driving/sitting over that two days he decided against that.

I completely agree with Kendall. Once the guy that initially gave him gas came back for the second time made me wonder as to why the parents wouldn’t just drive to him.. I am very familiar with this general area because I often drive from the Bay Area to Santa Clarita and I take this route every time. Interstate 5 is very empty around this area. Nothing but farming and desert, until the grapevine area when you actually get into the mountains. There’s really nothing out there so the fact he spent so many hours in that same area, I don’t understand how the parents just didn’t jump in the car to drive to him. That’s incredibly concerning. Although, I’m sure the parents deeply regret the decision not to drive to him now.

Unfortunately I believe Bryce took his own life. I'm aware of others who have done so and spent hours in their car debating this until they finally called someone and asked for help. I believe the car wreck was a failed attempt at this and Bryce may have ended up at the truck stop and hitchhiked to another area to complete what he set out to do. Bryce is a very unique looking person so I believe if he is still alive he would have been spotted by now. Prayers for his family. 🙏

Bryce's case literally keeps me up at night. I literally check almost daily for updates by googling his name. But ugh, anyway, I work in mental health care and have worked with individuals suffering from a number of mental illnesses, but some being drug-induced psychosis, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. Bryce was at just the right age of his disappearance when these things usually start to manifest in late teens/young adults. Their hallucinations and distorted sense of reality is very real for them and although it doesn't make sense to us, it make sense in the moment to them. (erratic behavior to his friends & girlfriend, sitting for hours upon hours in his car, not wanting to go home and making excuses, escaping the crash, etc), There's a lot of unanswered questions here, but I think most of them are to do with the realities of mental health disorders - sometimes there is no "rational" explanation, if that makes sense. I think this poor young man suffered from a severe mental health disorder that was accelerated by the use of drugs (also possibly a head injury from the crash), which led him to make unsafe, questionable decisions. I do not think he is with us anymore, but I really hope the family gets answers 💕

One of my college friends took too much acid one night and acted in a very similar way to this. He had never taken it before, but unfortunately his roommates were dealers (they even said they'd never take acid) and he succumbed to peer pressure.
He was lucky, because his parents cared and drove the 3 hours to collect him and bring him home. He went to psychotherapy but the effects are life long and with his best interest at heart, we can never contact him again out of fear that it'll trigger a decline in his mental health. I didn't even know this could happen, but rest assured I will NEVER touch the stuff, ever.
I wonder if Bryce took something dodgy that messed with his head? They also say abusing alcohol and drugs before the age of 25 can impact brain development - if he was using hardcore stuff as a teen, he may be suffering these long term affects.

I just found this channel from Kendall’s channel and let me say I am obsessed. I am watching them all. I went to the Reddit comment discussed in this episode and looked through the posters history. This person is not a casual acquaintance of Bryce. They seem to know and hate his mother. This person knows very intimate details about the parents and I would venture to say this could be someone very close to the family. The poster mentions in another comment that Bryce has a half sister who lived with them a short time prior to being kicked out at a young age. I think the poster is his half-sister and understands how abusive the parents were.

You can also have a temporary psychosis situation. I witnessed it with one of my sons who was at 17. It was gradual at first and then just sooooo severe, he was admitted under 5150 and had additional medical issues going on which led to a week long stay in ICU, the doctors best “guess” is that it was triggered by drugs, potentially laced with something more than he intended to take. After about a month with medical and psychiatric intervention he was back to his normal self. Normally just anxious and irritable, but not at all what we witnessed previously. Just sayin.

So I live in the Naperville area and what that person wrote on Reddit seems legit to me based on that area alone. It's very upperclass rich people, with parents who care deeply about their images. And the kids have lots of money and usually disconnected relationships with their parents, so there is definitely that type of drug scene in the highschool, but because they are all "glamorous" on the outside, it's hard to even tell that type of stuff is going on. So that's the theory I think seems the most credible honestly.

Her friend, the codependent she was, had given me the aforementioned heirloom with a note "be good to your mother" -- I threw both out. I had been attacked for years by my family and her friends, all for these horrific made up stories, when all along, I was the one who was being abused. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians. This is such an intriguing case. So many questions, yet so little answers.

Thank you for covering this story. I actually went to Naperville Central High I graduated in 08 but I have friends who's younger siblings knew Brice, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about him and its such a heartbreaking story and I pray that he is at least found one day so his family can have the closure they desperately need.

I just find it weird that parents who are super controlling would send their kid to live 400 miles away instead of keeping them close by to keep an eye on them

I think if a missing person was going to post on social media they’d go on Reddit
After that one familicide post I wouldn’t be shocked

I totally agree, if that was my son I would be on my way to him the first time they got reported back that he was still at the rest stop. So strange. The Vyvanse was definitely effecting him. I've seen people act very strange and out of character when they over do the stimulants or take them unprescribed.

As parents, my partner and I have always said we’d rather our kids were dead than just vanished without a trace, because we’d know where they are, as opposed to not knowing and imagining what is happening to them xx
