My daughter is now 1 and we are starting to implement boundaries with touching. My fiancé really likes to tickle her and I have been telling him that he has to respect the “stop” boundary. Even though it’s innocent and fun between us we want her to feel respected and know that her “No” and “Stop” mean something.

    • @jhanaew75
      @jhanaew75 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@LION THE KING huh ??? Like I said.. it’s about teaching her that no and stop mean NO and STOP regardless of who the person is. I don’t want her growing up with thinking “it’s just playing” is okay even if she says stop. “Just playing” is how a lot of ppl get these kids into keeping quiet about abuse. So thanks but I’ll proceed as I am.

Very good information! My sister and i were molested by our step dad when we were young and my mom was very naive about the whole thing. She let it go on for a long time. Remeber single parents, some men and women look for single parents, specifically to abuse their children. Do not be naive, protect your babies first. They are more important then you feeling lonely.

Because the huge majority of sexual abuse is committed by someone known to the victim, I am very uncomfortable with the idea of allowing sleepovers when my daughter is older.

Ok so as a kid myself,(I'm 14) I have only had 2 sleepovers with only one person each time. The people whom I have had sleepovers with, have been very close friends as in, I have known them for more than a year, I have been to their house, my parents have met both of their parents and like them/ trust them with me, and they have met my friend and enjoyed haveing her over. It's also a good idea to only have same sex sleepovers, as in both children are either girls or a boys. When they are younger and having sleepovers, you should check in on them every hour or two to make sure everything is going fine, but when they are older, you should let them have a little more freedom and put more of your trust in them. Your child should be fine as long as you teach them boundaries of their body, and make sure that they arent uncomfortable around this person. They should only be having sleepovers or playmate with kids that are withing a year of their age, i say this because even in a one year difference, the older child could know more about their body, and be at the stage where they want to experiment with their body, and others. If your child is the younger one, they could be taken advantage of. Its unlikely, but you never want to take the chance! I hope this helped you a bit.

My parents would never let me go to sleepovers. I HATED it!! I always thought they were so over protective. Now as a parent, yup I totally get it. I can't imagine letting my daughter have a sleepover anywhere but grandma's house where I can trust that she's safe.

I really needed this, I was sexually abused between ages 5-6 by a family friend, I never told anyone and now I’m super protective over my son and other children in my family. I can never tell my family why and they just don’t understand it, and I can’t tell them about my experience because the perpetrator is still a family friend.

There is something else that comes to mind as I listened to your great video. Predators tend to Always groom their victims. If you see anyone getting too close to a child, being touchy feely, or overly involved with a child (touching, stroking hair, hand on shoulder -or any body part- iregardless of a child's signs of feeling comfortable/uncomfortable Be Aware!!! Most times it is not a one off chance thing... They plan. They groom. and it's not always men.

It’s important to mention it doesn’t always happen behind closed doors. I read a case where a teenage cousin abused two younger cousins in their backyard. Always keep an eye on your children, even if they are just playing outside.

@@florenciahoracio8517 I would say just no sleepovers until children are much older, and only with friends that you know very well. Always check in with them about how they are being treated, and make sure they have the option to leave if they ever feel uncomfortable. I never had bad experiences with sleepovers, but looking back my mother did NOT know the families of some of my friends and bad things could have happened.

Thank you so much for this! I worked at the YMCA for the majority of college and we had to take sexual abuse prevention classes every year. The amount of basic information that is unknown by people due to the taboo and stigma around the subject is insane. Child on child abuse is also a LOT more common than people realize so thank you for mentioning that too! It’s heartbreaking but most older children who abuse smaller children are being or have been abused themselves 💔

@@89DaniiM That I could come to her and not be in trouble. My mom made that clear throughout my childhood. She told me what spots I could only touch & when my playdate crossed that boundary-- I got up, told their mother I needed to call my mom, refused to answer why and waited for my mom and I to speak in private. Idk how I knew as a child I needed to keep quiet until my parent was present. I did not want their mom to invalidate my claims. And sure enough they found out my friend was being molested by an older sibling, who was being molested by their uncle.

Dont be that mom that doesnt believe in you or doesnt do anything about it. That's the worst thing you can do. That girl will forever be broken . Years will pass by and still hurt her the same as it did when it happened.

Great video! Knowledge is so important. Here are a few more tips that I’ll be applying and that could have saved me and others getting abused
    1. Watch how your child is around people if they come over or you go over to their house. If the child is instantly uncomfortable with that person then that’s a red flag
    2. When other children come over to play and say you’re having them play in the pool make sure they change in separate rooms in their own private space and you stay in the corridor in case they need your help.
    3. When your children get to that age when they can wash themselves make sure you always respect their bathroom time and only go in if they call you and want your help. In my culture it’s normal to see adult family members naked because we used to all share a bath but it’s not right as it teaches your children that it’s okay to be naked in front of family and other people when those parts are private and abuse happened in my family as well by my mums cousins
    4. This is extreme but I don’t even care. I will never let my child sleep over at someone else’s house family or friend I do not care. They can come over after I have vetted the parents and the child as well, because I’m not playing Russian roulette with my child’s childhood.
    5. Have an open dialogue and always see if your child likes certain people ask them what they think and feel about those people after they gone and never make your children play with children that they don’t like even you’re friends with the parents and you want them to get along.
    6. The thing that would have helped me disclose is if I had a good enough relationship with my mum and felt that she would have believed me or heard me because I’m African and family is almost like a cult where you can’t say anything wrong about older people because you’re seen as disrespectful.

I wished I new this early on in my life. This would have prevented for my two girls to be sexual molested by my friends. Is a horrible and traumatic experience they have to endure all along in their young life. This is the best information that a parent can get to protect their children. Thank you for sharing this video.

I truly wish more family channels would talk about this, this is why I love your channel, your family comes first. Not TH-cam. Some family channels know fine well abusers are watching their content and I the worse cases they exploit their own children for clicks. We do not talk about this enough as a society, I have been aware of this growing issue for as long as I've I've online. The internet is absolutely crawling with predators too, silicon valley is not going to protect our kids. They just want as many people clicking on their platforms as possible and that means kids too, in order to sell our data. Its on parents to keep their kids off line until they are adults imo. If our governments were actually competent we would have massive regulations on the internet and stronger age laws. I dont think anyone under the age of 20 should have internet access unless it's for study etc. We need to have an entirely separate intranet for kids which has safeguards. Predators are talking to our kids in the privacy of their bedrooms, on their phones. This is a massive problem all round. Cannot say how refreshing it was to see this video. You are a great mum, totally on the ball. This is how to parent and educate others. 👍💜
