    Bass love bluegills and other sunfish. This fly pattern provides a really nice profile for clear water situations or when the wide profile of a bluegill is really important. It’s not too tough to tie, and gives you the tools you need to create other Enrico Puglisi minnow patterns. Use this pattern as a jumping-off point for your own patterns.

    Nice fly. Never tied with Puglisi fibers. I just bought a bunch of colors because they were a lot less expensive when compared to fly store prices. I will tie one of these just to get used to the feel of the fiber. Thanks for sharing, all the best, Sean

      +Sean Mooney Sounds good, Sean. That was good timing on the purchase there! Just play around with them, and see what you think. I hope this video helps you along. Thanks again.

    I love the idea of a template. When tying these, I sometimes have a hard time putting the scissors down. I can see the template helping. Great video! Thank you.......

      Thanks Kevin! I'm the same way with trimming. For that reason, I always try to find the fastest way to get a consistent shape when trimming anything, including hair. Hope it helps, and thanks again!

    New to tying. Could um I size down the hook to a size 6? Would this still work? Thank you!

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, you can use any size you want. Making it smaller will definitely be better in some cases, particularly when you have slightly smaller bass in heavily pressured ponds. Here's the article for recipe: toflyfish.com/enrico-puglisi-bluegill-and-sunfish-fly/

      @@toflyfish Perfect, I used a size 6 hook, the shank was a little short but great practice for someone new to tying. Thanks!

    hey ToFly.... another great pattern its always a pleasure to watch you tie. You do a great job on the bait patterns. I'm going to have to try some of these. Are these mostly for salt water or can they be used for fresh water like bass?

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bobber, this one is great for certain situations with mainly largemouth. I have a bunch of other similar patterns that are so good on stripers and hybrids and other fish as well. Articles/patterns are sorted on the homepage of the site, if you're interested. Thanks!

    Do you think a beginner could tie this fly?

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Logan. Sure, but like with most patterns, it will take some time to get it to where you want it. Even people who have been tying for years can still improve or need to practice new techniques. If you're interested in tying patterns like this, then take it slow and just take it step by step. Good luck, and feel free to contact us at anytime, either here or from the website. Good luck!

    @toflyfish you can get 60 and even 120 3D doll eyes on amazon or ebay for like 5 dollars I know you said wait is a bit of a factor but they tend to be more durable then stick on eyes

    as a new tyer I've never heard or seen these fibers anywhere. this could be too advanced for me. Lol but I'll save it and check it out again later. do you sell these flies ?

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wayne Miller Hey Wayne, these fibers are good for a lot of different patterns. They're really used a lot for saltwater patterns but are pretty versatile. Take a look at the article on the site for some more info, and just take it at your own pace. Once you get the rhythm down, it becomes a lot easier. Then, make yourself a template for the shape. I'll probably be adding some templates for free downloads on the site. I'm planning on doing a tutorial for a shad pattern as well. Happy fishing!

      +Wayne Miller Forgot to add that you can buy a similar pattern through various fly shops throughout the country. Cheers.

    This is a great pattern! Thanks for sharing! Subscribed!! My only question...What is your favorite/recommended size and type hook for this particular pattern? Thanks!

      +geetarman58 Hey Geetarman, Virginia smallmouth should be calling your name soon! Here’s a link that provides all the info you might need.
      toflyfish.com/enrico-puglisi-bluegill-and-sunfish-fly/
      Also, I’ve just started using weedless worm hooks, the type that you would use with gear fishing. The action is quite amazing, and you can burn it across the bottom like a lipless crankbait, or you can give it quick strips and pauses to make it flutter and jump. Take a look at this podcast on Virginia stripers. Look at the flies down the page a little. You can see the hooks there. Also, there’s a lot of applicable info on bass flies in this podcast in general.

      Thanks man!!! I come from Long Island and have caught many stripers,bluefish, and weakfish on the fly.....mostly steamers of my own recipe. I am now living close to the James River in the Richmond area and have taken up the freshwater scene. There are plenty of lakes ,ponds and of course the River. Again thanks for the info. Much appreciated!

    Is it poosible to make a golden shiner with this method?

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Helios, absolutely. Here's an example of a shad with weighted eyes: toflyfish.com/enrico-puglisi-shad-baitfish-pattern-saltwater-bass/
      It all depends on the species you're going after and what you want to do with the pattern. I would think about triggers and the particular species before I would try to just produce a fly that looks exactly like a shiner in my hand. A stronger trigger is more important than exact imitation in almost every situation. Feel free to shoot me an email from the site about exactly what you're trying to accomplish, if you like. Thanks!

    could you do a tutorial on a crawfish fly? there is not many good ones out there

    • @toflyfish
      @toflyfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Jasper. Here are a couple patterns that I use for crayfish. I rarely go exact imitation with crayfish because I'm more interested in triggering fish with impressionistic patterns that resemble many different things. Function is also very important to me. For example, is it weedless? Hopefully these will help, but I'll think about a more exact imitation. Thanks!

      toflyfish.com/smallmouth-bass-fly-the-smallmouth-gotcha/ (works for both smallmouth and largemouth; they both love it in clear water with a tan color as well)

      @toflyfish  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael, Thanks! I've got about nine or so videos on trout/steelhead patterns. I have dozens and dozens of trout patterns, but it's tough to find anything that is different enough justify a video tutorial. I'll try to get a few more trout patterns, maybe some larger streamers, up. Any types in particular that you would like to see? Thanks again!
