    How to tie a a bass fly that is truly weedless. Most "weedless" flies still drag a ton of weeds, this one is different in that you can actually pitch this wherever you want without having to worry about getting hung up. If you enjoyed this video make sure to like and subscribe for more content!

    I wish Gator would come out with new videos. I like the easy minimal tying technique shown in these videos.

    I tied a couple of these this morning in various colors of bucktail and added some thin flash. More to the point the lake I fished has heavy vegetation I must say I was impressed I will be continuing to use this pattern. Thank you and I look forward to more you may have to share.

    I have tied a lot of flies on bass hooks. Great hooks for big flies, much cheaper than traditional fly hooks. Great tie and should be effective. If I may add a little, watch a video on how Lefty Kreh or Bob Clouser ties in bucktail. You will all but eliminate the trimming of the hairs after they are tied in and it will help to shape the head. Use UV cured resin on the head and the fly will last much longer than a couple of fish.

      I’ll check that out! And i’ve never used the uv resin before, any brands you suggest?

      @@413Outdoorsall the loon outdoors UV resins work great for me. It really is worth head cementing your flies.

    I fish for Largemouth in North Alabama, with lots of trees, weeds, and Hydrilla grass. This looks easy than using the nylon line weed guard. Thanks a heap.

    Nice looking fly I have a hard time keeping bucktail on spinners also. All i do is put bead headcement or crazy glue by where i wrap thread aroundbucktail

    • @413Outdoors
      @413Outdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats the way to do it really, i actually use clear nail polish for finishing my flies, way cheaper and IMO a stronger finish, these just get shredded by the pickerel no matter what i do though

    • @MuskyHans
      @MuskyHans 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      413 Outdoors same with pike or musky ive used clear cot also before. I usually just make spiiner with flash material or plastic cause its easier

    Nice. How about tying in a long rabbit zonker behind the eye, figure out where the hook needs to pierce the skin, so it lays flat (like a soft plastic), and you will really be on to something. Or 2mm foam? I've been tying on EWG hooks for a decade. Tight lines.

      It might be, I’ve experimented both ways and it seems like the toothy critters tear them up either way though

    Do you think they would last longer if you added a blob of UV resin right before you added the brown bucktail and cured it in there?

    Hey buddy I don’t know about any unspoken rules to fly tying. I’ve got a little secret man. I also carry this in survival kits in my car I carry a little set up everywhere I go! What I do to my flys (the ones the come unraveled) especially with bass. You know how people put a dab of super glue right on the head before you do your last wrap on the head. You can do this in any spot to help keep it secure and it will not move! The entire fly will come off the hook or rip before the part that you spot glue ever comes apart. Put a dab of super glue and sprinkle baking soda on the spot with the glue. That superglue will harden immediately and get as hard as steel...! It works so good if your belt on your car breaks on the side of the road you can use this trick and it will honestly hold enough to get you home! I hate my bass flys getting torn up like that. Weed less hooks are a pain to tie takes way more work and time and sometimes I make a fly that I’m creating and I know I’ll never make one exactly the same so I do what I can to make them last! It doesn’t really work though to use it as some do with the clear nail polish it will be kinda white. Gets solid though the second that chemical reaction takes place. Give it a shot it can’t hurt. Hey I’ve been making some flys for drop shots and the whole Carolina rig as well as Texas. I’m creating my own and right now I’m trying to make a small brown trout. So far so go. What I’d really like to fighter out on these fly baits is how to add a swimming tail. Maybe with a little hinge type thing at the back. I have been just leaving a longer tail and shaping it from leather kinda like a leach with a extra little flap at the end but that doesn’t last to long and just doesn’t look like what I’m going for. Any ideas? If I get any maybe we can swap ideas I live in New Mexico we’ve got some awesome fly fishing going one down here. I’ve trout fished my whole life and never got into bass fishing much but I’ve done it so this is a whole new adventure for me! 7 years stuck in bed and I made out and it’s time to start something new! I think bass eats better than trout too.. anyways if that sounds like something you’d like to give a shot I believe you can send me something three TH-cam. I’ll be looking out for you! I can give some of your flys a shot down here and let you know how they do maybe you can help me out with the whole tail dilemma I’m having!🇺🇸🧐

    You don't precut your bucktail ends to make a clean head. You don't tie on top and roll it in to position. Don't spin your bobbin to straighten your thread out to keep bucktail from rolling. Don't completely wrap your head (bucktail showing). And do,n't glue use an adhesive on a bucktail fly.
    These are all reasons you only get 3 fish per fly.

    Great idea thanks. But I bet if you initially used super glue,then again after your whip finish,this fly would be nearly indestructible.
