    He was one of a kind! His hands are so fast - his fingers so precise. It's not just his skill at the guitar - it's the fact that he could compose something like this. It's otherworldly at times with flashes of classical. Mind blown every time I watch.

      @@e.l.norton Spot on correct, perfect statement. Plus he could pick up most instruments and play them without a lesson. He played: Sax, drums, base, guitar, multi level organ, piano, keyboard, thought I heard he played clarinet, but not positive. Could not read or write music (on paper), and his bro says he has a vault filled with music he wrote (on tape) enough for well over 1,000 albums (Alex's words). It is truly mind blowing how gifted he was. The most impressive thing to me, and it's what his peers state that stood out about him was his humility and kindness. He was a giving and caring person who paid anonymously for people's doctor bills, mortgages, etc. and did not want them to tell anyone. Not to mention various charities. People have come out after his passing to let others know this now. Sure he had his demons and issues, don't we all? What a man, father, and gifted musician. There will never be anyone like him again.

    My son mastered Eruption in his mid-teens. He was one of those natural talents that could just listen to a song 2 or 3 times and then play it by ear note for note, although Eruption took him a couple of weeks to completely master. Yes, he was THAT good; when I first got him guitar lessons, the instructor gave him 2 lessons and told me, "I can't help him, he's already better than me and I've toured professionally for years." Eruption is the riff I always asked him to play for me.

    The Van Halen family were Dutch immigrants & moved to Pasadena, California! That’s only 45 minutes from me! Brothers Van Halen studied music theory in school but Eddie never learned to read music notes! Eddie started off learning drums & his brother was on guitar but they realized that they played better on the opposite instruments. 😂 Hence the legendary Eddie Van Halen! I might be the minority here but I liked Van Halen better with Sammy Hagar. Favorite songs are WHEN LOVE WALKS IN & RIGHT NOW. 👏🌟👏🌟💫 I’ve always thought Eddie was so cute!! 🥰 Eddie & Dr. Brian May did a project together called STAR FLEET (Not a surprise there). 🤣🤣
    Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie’s son) is a pretty good musician, too!!

    Van Halen as a band are absolute beasts. Eddie is legendary. You need to check out the whole band. I recommend starting with the official video for Hot for Teacher. The original vocalist, David Lee Roth is in that one. The guy who introduced Eddie is the second vocalist, Sammy Hagar. I do think tho if you are going to delve into Van Halen, you should start at the beginning.

  • @ben1ben
    @ben1ben 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    (SORRY FOR THIS HUGE COMMENT LMAO.) Slash is from Guns n Roses, not Kiss. Eddie had one of the Greatest Guitar tones ever, especially in Van Halen's first album. The tone here was great too but I prefer the very first tone, its too iconic (most people will agree with me I'm 100% sure xD). This isn't just Eruption, its a mix of 316, Eruption, Cathedral, the intro of Mean Street, Spanish Fly, some improvisation and some more stuff. All of these that I named were small solos he did in various albums, here live he just put all of them into one. Through all of this he hadn't failed a single note btw. I think he even was a little wasted xD. Eruption is his most famous solo (probably also the most famous solo on earth) since you could say it broke barriers, the tapping part which is this part 7:32 is from the first album which has the Eruption solo in it, at the time nobody used tapping like this. Eddie did not invent tapping as for example Brian May did tap years before this, for example even in Bohemian Rhapsody Bri was tapping, BUT Eddie is doing a mix of fast tapping and another technique which is called Hammer On and Pull Offs like Ritchie Blackmore used to use a lot, so this is just Eddie playing his own style and no one had ever seen or heard this before in 1978. When the album came out and people heard it they would question if it actually was a guitar because no one ever heard something like that. Eddie wasn't just a Legend in Guitar playing but also in building Guitars, the guitar he is playing here he Built himself it's just one of many guitars he built, he also created sounds and tones that were really legendary. Creating sounds with his guitars like at 10:00 and 10:43 also made him special, at 10:43 he was just playing with one hand if you see it, with the other hand he is just playing with the volume knob and the guitar also has a delay effect, it also starts to sound like a Violin at 11:18 so yea this is pretty special. 17:43 You're right, though this live performance was in 1986 and you know innuendo was released in 1991 (though I don't know when they started writing and recording Don't try so Hard so who knows), the part that sounds like Don't Try So Hard that Eddie plays is off of his 316 solo. Well actually he did it live here first and then also in 1991 the solo 316 was released within their album. So both on studio came out the same year though Eddie played it live 5 years before. I think its just coincidence but yes it sounds almost the exact same. 18:44 Eddie is in the band called Van Halen :) 😂😂😂 The Drummer is Eddie's older brother Alex Van Halen, Eddie and Alex formed the band so the name makes sense. Eddie was always playing with a Smile, its just so fun to look at, with him smiling you really know he loves what he does. He was also a very nice guy. Eddie actually wanted to play the Drums, he bought a small drum kit and his brother Alex a guitar but when Eddie was outside and came home he saw Alex on his drums so Eddie just took the guitar, so just because of some random reason they switched their instruments and THAT happened 😂 what a great story. I also have to mention another thing about The Van Halen album (the first album was self titled) it's probably one of the best produced albums ever, I really gotta say after I heard that Album I was questioning why Queen was a little behind in 1978, so the first Van Halen album LITERALLY every instrument sounded perfectly Clear, now the best thing to me about their whole first album, The Bass is on the right side of the headphones, the Drums are almost in the middle but a little bit more on the right side, the Vocals are on both sides and the Guitar on the Left with an echo that moves to the right every time he plays, You can literally tell apart every instrument like Orange juice to water. Also the Drums didn't sound like the 70's anymore, there is this typical 70's drum sound that every drums had in the 70's but Van Halen's drum sound was already in the future and also as I mentioned before the Guitar tone on that album is one of the best and most iconic tones ever. The last thing I have to say is, there is no Guitar player play style or playing that has influenced the Metal genre more than Eddie. Great Reaction, didn't expect this.

    • @HAP3SPEAKZ
      @HAP3SPEAKZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He did not build the guitar in this video. Kramer made it along with many others for him.

    • @bayberuthtoo
      @bayberuthtoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While this particular guitar is a Kramer, it's modeled after Eddie's own creation, the FrankenStrat / Frankenstein. Eddie took tapping to the next level by learning to play with the pick in his middle finger, freeing up his index finger for tapping during normal play. He was always innovating & thinking outside the box. For example, he plays the intro to Pouncake by running a power drill next to the pickups & manipulating the magnetic fields ( th-cam.com/video/o1GJxVmYv-E/w-d-xo.html ). He also invented the D'tuna device which allows players to switch the low E string back & forth between D & E on the fly. His playing was anything but conventional & he was profoundly influential to guitarists world 'round. Eddie Van Halen was to the guitar what Michael Jordan was to basketball.

    Eddie was a composer. It's a disservice to classify him as just a guitar player...he should be compared in the same grp as Bach, Mozart, amd Beethoven. Even this solo is an amazing composition of so many different styles and techniques he created but woven masterfully into a full scale composition. Its otherworldly. No guitar player ever could seamlessly weave this many innovative techniques into a tasteful melodic but highly skilled solo

    I may be bias because I grew up with these guys in socal. Saw them play before they ever got a record contract or open for anyone. I was sold. Great respect for Jimmy and Stevie but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived. Period! RIP Eddie, they'll never be another.

    Eddie played a small solo on Micheal Jackson's "Beat it" with no album credit. One day he was shopping in a music store and Beat it came over the store music system and overheard a couple of kids saying, "oh that guy playing is a Eddie Van Halen Wannabe" and Eddie spoke up from behind them and said, no, that was me. I'll bet they lost their minds! I never saw Eddie but I did see Sammy Hagar and if you ever go, it's like a Party and a Concert breaks out! :-)

    EVH wrote most of that solo when he was in his 20's. He never learned how to read musical notes. Taught himself how to play. RIP EVH.

    I always liked Sammy's intro as well. As for your Queen comment, I went back and listened, and I can see what you're getting at. But, What Eddie was just playing came out 10 years before Don't Try So Hard. So if anything, Brian May was taking from Eddie. That said, Brian May is an amazing guitarist on his own, without doubt. But there is a difference between tapping a few nice harmonics on a song, and being the guy that induced Millions of people around the world to imitate you for the next 40 years.

    Eddie was great. He will be missed. If you are like me and you like guitar may I suggest some Steve Vai. Building the church live.. The one with like 1.4 million views.. Bad Horsie..vevo That will get your heart pumping. For the love of God with orchestra.. Whispering a prayer.. and Tender Surrender. He gets his guitar pregnant in that one. To name a few. That is if you like guitar.. 🎸🎸🎸🤠😎
