The coils in the motors are like the secondary windings in a transformer. An electric current is induced in the windings of the motors making those spin. i have done this with success,but a little differently. i used cogged pulleys and cogged belt. pulleys large enough to pass over copper coil. six neodymium magnets on underside of each pulley. magnets need to pass over center of coils. motors wired anti-parallel. use cogged belt to set the timing of magnets. if the belt is to tight,it will not work,from friction. set the belt a little loose. got to about 1200RPM..100V..240HZ. i then connected 40watt bulb and the motors stalled to a stop. fun project but useless.
There are many identical set ups on utube producing identical results. The units are identical ac shaded pole motors. in the set up one unit works as a motor driving the generator which generates electricity which charges the capacitor which runs the motor. which unit is the motor and which the generator is not known or inidicated. but it does not really matter. An ac shaded pole motor cannot generate electricity no matter at what speed it is run in either direction. if the unit had been previously used then the motor will generate a fraction of a mivro volt due to residual magnetism remaining in the iron of the motor. Only a wound rotor ac induction motor will generate electricy if run in the proper direction at a speed higher than synchronius speed and for this power is required.Some have commented that there are wires from below powering the motors, others have said that under the table there is an ac induction device that induces ac in the motors and energises tham. others have said that the capacitor is a battery. None of these comments are valid in the present case as whatever the source of the motors power both are running in the wrong direction. An ac shaded pole motor can run only in one directlon and that is the direction of the shading ring which in the presnt set up would mean that the motors must run anticlockwise but the video shows both running in the wroing direction.. Several of us independantly but unsuccessfully have tried to replicat the set up.The video is part real and part animation. Further there is no capacitor designed or even possible to hold ac.
