CP3 on the lakers would’ve changed his legacy so much
he would have been still looked at as a bus rider like kevin durant. cp3 harden westbrick kd. none of them are winners. kd hasnt been relevant before he was on golden state and has not been anything relevant since
@@nomercyinc6783cap KD a bus driver lil bro , at age 22 he carried his team to the finals
One thing I will say for KD:
He may be a jerk or have a big ego, his championships may not mean as much as others, but credit where it’s due:
In 2017, he averaged 35 in a finals series on nearly 70% true shooting. I don’t care what team you’re on, that’s a great performance.
@@nomercyinc6783 I'd say Paul being traded in his 7th season is pretty different from KD going to Golden State in his 10th season. And KD had many contending teams before going to GS but came up short. Paul didn't have any contending teams in New Orleans and didn't really choke and hadn't been considered to have choked.
@@nomercyinc6783weirdo take
As a Lakers fan, I'm still so salty about this veto. If we got Chris Paul, we would've beaten the Thunder in 2012 and probably would've won the finals assuming nobody underperforms. And if the Lakers still get Dwight Howard, then he could've recovered in timely fashion after the back surgery and probably would've beaten the Spurs and Heat in the finals.
Cp3 would’ve got hurt in the playoffs
Lakers wouldn't have done anything man stop it. Heat washing them and so were the young thunder any day.
@@NewRimHoopsyou forget the lakers just went to 3 straight finals and mavs beat the heat that very year so yes they would have beaten them😂
@@Letthat I think you're forgetting WHY the Mavs beat the Heat. Either way, the heat WASHED the Thunder who washed the Lakers. if the Lakers get CP3, it would still be INCREDIBLY hard to get passed the Thunder. Then they would still have to get passed an amazing Spurs team who OKC beat in a close 6 games. Then finally you would face a Heat team with everyone still pretty much in their prime. Prime LeBron without any malfunctioning, DWade before the knees, and CB was still great this year. Along with the fact that the heat had some solid depth too which the Lakers would have lacked after the trade. Losing Pau would be a huge blow for 2012 and I don't think they get passed OKC.
in 2013 though, they have a really good shot to make the finals with Dwight assuming he stays healthy. But they would be beaten by a Heat team with the best version of LeBron on both sides of the court. DWade, although he did now have his knee stuff, he was still great. Bosh usually came up when it mattered and the heat added a, sure aging, but still accurate Ray Allen along with their depth. You're also forgetting that Kobe, although still great, was getting older. Although if he stays healthy I don't think his age matters.
@@NewRimHoopskind of agree here but still would have been fun to watch bron vs a sort of prime Kobe.
Cp3 on the Lakers probably would of got 1 ring I believe. And I also don't think Kobe would of tore his Achilles in 2012-13 cause Kobe literally had to do a carry job that season
As a Lakers fan what hurt the worst was it cleared the way for a very bad trade that wasn't vetoed (the Steve Nash trade)
exactly think of the butterfly effect of David Stern doing this. this blocked trade lead to that disasterous Nash trade as the team looked desperately to get Kobe a point guard in 2013, which led to the team being so bad Kobe had to literally play every minute of every game down the stretch to make the playoffs, which led to him tearing his Achilles which essentially ended his career. that year went so bad Howard also left in free agency. I 100% believe if this trade went through we would have gotten 3 more years of good Kobe after 2013, bc cp3 would have been the perfect remedy to take the pressure off Kobe and ease his workload, extending his career. I believe his final 3 years could have been akin or slightly better than Wizards Jordan. some other things ia Kobe would have gotten another ring, cp3 would have gotten a ring, Dwight would have a ring a lot sooner. that's 3 players alone whose legacies are drastically different just off the top of my head.
@cvaye818 also if they win a championship, Kobe could potentially have a other Finals MVP which could have raised his status in most people's GOAT Debates. Meaning he would probably be a lock for a Top 3-5 instead of people debating his place in the Top 10
I’ve also heard the Howard trade didn’t pan out either. Though Nash was more washed up
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind Kobe would have got his 6th ring with CP3. Chris paul and Harden had the best record and the NBA and narrowly lost to the best team of all time, and him and Booker went to the finals. Just imagine what him and Kobe would have done....
Very possible
Kobe couldn’t get out of the first round without Pau, no way he makes a deep playoff run if they traded Pau for Chris Paul. CP3 has proven to either be hurt or choke every post season.
Plus Kobe has already become the most overrated NBA superstar ever, the last thing logical fans needed was CP3 to carry Kobe to his 6th ring.
@@ge8198nigga what ?
Stern was involved in keeping the franchise in NOLA after the Seattle blowback he never lived down
Weak recap of the Demps proposed trade.
The proposed trade would have sent Paul to the Lakers, Pau Gasol to the Rockets and furnished New Orleans with three top-flight NBA players in Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Lamar Odom as well as playoff-tested guard Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick that Houston had acquired from the Knicks.
The Lakers trade would've netted New Orleans better players than they got from the Clippers. Stern was concerned with protecting his legacy and obviously Demps couldn't defend himself vs Stern. Pathetic
All Facts. Can't really say I'm surprised at how this video went tho, the league got some of these guys under the wing.....
Odom said he only wanted to play for the Lakers and would not report to the Hornets (now Pelicans) and would retire. Even when Odom ended up as a Maverick he was checked out after they traded him.
No! Lamar Odom said he only wanted to play for the Lakers and would not play for the Hornets (now Pelicans) if that trade would have went through that would have been the death of the franchise in New Orleans and we was struggling at the time (especially after Katrina) so Stern did save us. But the league has been helping franchises for years. That's what they do. Go all the way back to Patrick Ewing (a Big East player that played in the Garden in college being funneled to the Knicks), the Bulls fresh after Jordan getting 2 Top 4 picks (Chandler and Curry) in 2001 then the following year getting then Jason Williams #2 in the draft in 2002 (even though for whatever reason none of that worked out that doesn't mean it didn't happen), Jordan deciding to come back for 2 years till LeBron graduated in 2003 from high school because the league was struggling for ratings, LeBron being funneled to Cleveland (from the area), D. Rose (from there funneled to Chicago), all the times the Pelicans and Cavaliers got 1 overall picks. The league especially back the put players where they wanted to for financial reasons. But with the rise of "player empowerment" they can no longer do that. The fact a player can defacto own his own sports agency while playing is a conflict of interest in itself (LeBron James Klutch Sports), but because his worshippers love him so much they will not see the problem in that. But the league has been corrupt. But for once it didn't work in the Lakers favor (notice they didn't have a problem with Jerry West brokering a deal for his former team to fleece the Grizzlies outta Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown and some throwins) it's this big conspiracy. Had they not did that Kobe was on his way to the Bulls or Clippers. But this time it's a problem GTFOH.
At the time tho, Eric Gordon and the 10th pick seemed better than what the Lakers were giving up.
you can tell youre a biased fan boy. kevin and luis where old and dogshit. and lamar only wanted to play for la and said he would not report. the reality is the lakers trade was garbage
The real conspiracy is whether or not Dell demps was going to be compensated under the table in some way by the Lakers for making such a terrible trade. Maybe he was going to get hired by the next season or something. Why doesn't anybody ask that question?
Can we just look how many Trades Lebron has been able to get during his time and when Kobe was getting a Top 10 player all the sudden its Vetoed....My Lakers saddd
LDS
Once you realize how the NBA actually works, you quickly understand who the "bad guys" really are and that Dell Demps was just doing his job as ordered......
Then who are the bad guys
Wild-ass theory coming: Remember when Stern responded that his dream NBA Finals was Lakers vs Lakers? Word was Stern regretted saying what he really felt because he just said the other NBA teams didn’t matter. While the Lakers would get another fleece job in (Gasol, but time showed that trade actually wasn’t bad), Stern got a little reminder from Gilbert about the Laker hegemony in the NBA. And the trade was vetoed.
A crazy theory, but a theory nonetheless.
A little mic distortion, but W video still.
It was just a vastly overblown situation that I still don’t understand how a lot of people don’t understand, it’s simple the GM wanted to make a move that was so dumb that New Orleans would’ve lost their NBA team, the NBA while going back on their word still *owned* the team and even while really being a CP3 fan understand why they “vetoed” the trade.
The problem was that the Laker's believed they were dealing with the decision maker in Demps. My recollection is that the Lakers kind of had to trade the players that were in the CP trade because they were unhappy about being traded.
because its more fun to spin a big conspiracy and narrative then to do with the reality.
@@beamo1220 well yea that was the bigger part, because it had actually been an official done deal trade, I only really remember Pau being upset, Kobe and CP3 upset because they had apparently already been on the phone discussing what they would do, Lamar Odom was livid after that as well
My friend still gets mad over this and he's not even a Lakers fan lol
As a Laker fan, I think what made me even more salty after the veto was the fact that Chris Paul was traded to the Clippers of all teams. Like, if CP3 was traded elsewhere, then sure whatever but the Clippers tho?
I’m sure the Clippers were glad to have him given everything they’d done before that.
@@fortynights1513 I guess David Stern was to save 2 franchises with one trade.
@@ThePhenomenalOne13 The Clippers already had Blake Griffin. Maybe they make a postseason or two with him and not Chris Paul, but they certainly aren't a perennial playoff team without CP3.
That part irritated me too. You send him across the hall. A reminder that we couldn't get him and that was also the downfall of Lamar Odom as well. All bad
A slap in the face to all Lakers fan tbh cuz we all knew we bout to run it for 3 yrs
I still remember walking into basketball practice and CP3 was a laker. Then practice is over and check my phone and the trade veto. Bruh i was mad as hell lol
Mark cuban at 6:07 lol
You should make this a what if video
The CP3 to the Lakers saga is always fascinating to me.
I only wonder how so much was affected because of one single decision. Not just with CP3, but also with guys like Anthony Davis and James Harden.
I guess it did kind of work out for New Orleans in the end, I mean if they take the initial Lakers deal, they probably are unable to draft AD, and they're more than likely packing their bags for a new city, only 4 years after Seattle lost their team in an ugly mess in of itself. Plus, the Rockets pick that they would've gotten turned into Royce White, who never played in the NBA because of his fear of flying.
Hi Mike korezema love your videos
I appreciate you !
Ending instrumental song sounds familiar
And what if I were to tell you I didn't wipe very well and now I'm very itchy?
Stern is rotting in bball hell...no reason to veto the trade only to end up trading CP3 for less...I hope CP3 understands that Stern cost him at least one ring...clear the Stern had a bias against the lakers and buckled under the pressure from some of the owners...btw, it demps was such a lousy GM...fire him, you owned the hornets and you didnt fire the GM who you thought was downright terrible? everyone knows anyway why Stern vetoed the trade...not like its a surprise
Damn cp3 highlights are so sick
Mike I just started at St John’s. Legendary alumn
Hope you have a great time there brother, those were 4 of the best years of my life... go to class more than me lol
8:54 eyo the beat is familiar 🤔
Still crazy to me
Aye Pau Gasol and James harden would’ve been tuff pick and roll
its not conspiracy. Just look Marku Cuban's interview about this. It wasnt about CP3 and that Lakers would be to strong,it was about money cap.
Outro song?
Stern's control over the league was INSANE. NBA owned team get AD and then gets a new owner? Sus...
cp3 with no ring is nuts
I'm a lakers fan but I can 100% see why you'd decline the trade. The talent doesnt make much sense in return for CP3. They wouldnt get enough pieces that make sense long term. They'd be a bad team with aging guys.
NBA owned the Hornets, gotta remember that
Remember when he played with Steve Nash? The year before Steve Nash average double digits in assist. Yet Kobe never let Steve Nash handle the ball.
Nash was getting old, but I wonder how he had such a bad drop off from one year to the next.
This is a lie and a blatant rewriting of history. The fact is, Nash was handling the ball early in the season....and was doing a bad job of it. He was old and slow and not his old self. He could still shoot, but he couldn't get to his spots the the same. That's when Kobe took up point guard responsibilities and actually did pretty well. They decided to put Nash at shooting guard, because while he couldn't move, he could still knock down open shots. Ultimately this wasn't a winning formula, but it was a logical move with the pieces they had at the time. That's why Kobe took ball handling abilities. Not because he was "selfish" and holding Nash back or something.
@@Biggiiful Kobe was a ball stopper and that’s why it was impossible to get a rhythm with him pounding the ball
@@alfredoladino9838 Exactly,
Dog Nash was hurt and washed it happened hella fast
At least you guys still got AD, no love in NOLA. (we don’t know what’s going on)
In my 2k franchise mode paul ends up in New Orleans by next season. I'd argue he might be a decent trade candidate at this years deadline to go there
What if the pistons drafted Melo keeps me up at night.
Same! Or Bosh! Or Wade! Good Lord it was almost as bad as in 2005's what if Sheed had not left Robert Horry open for a 3 in game 5!
The League was creating a situation for LeBron to win, nothing else. Trade was fair and square. He didn't vetoed 3 of the top 10 players in the league joining one team, yet he vetoed this trade
i'm pretty sure a free agency signing can't be vetoed by the commisioner.. so still it's a conspiracy theory ad far from reality..
LDS. one was a trade the other was free agents sighing massive difference. also, he didn't veto the kg and ray to the Celtics. was that to help LeBron win too? just face it you're a schizo who cant engage with reality.
They can still trade gasol and odom at high price
Nice work
Please do what if Chris Paul got traded to the Lakers?
Gilbert Arenas already broke this down. They were looking to sign Dwight Howard too and David Stern was angry about this finesse
Should be juicy this one
The complete opposite
Here's the problem with saying or thinking that David Stern didn't have a hand in vetoing the Chris Paul trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. The hornets at that time were owned by the NBA AKA David Stern. He absolutely had all the power to veto the trade.
According to agent 0 he was apart of that trade is this true 😳😳 ?????
Did he just casually drop his great grandfather was a Yankee, is he lying or what he’s never mentioned that?
The Lakers would have had a ridiculous amount of CAP space left and had the league in a choke hold.
If Eric Gordon didn’t get hurt that would have been a good trade
It’s always Austin Rivers smh 😔
Mike ask gilbert arenas about the situation it was to stop a lakers dynasty
That is just his opinion. Arenas never said he had inside info, its just what he thinks.
CP3 is an owner killer
New Orleans
LA Clippers
Suns
All had change of ownership while he was on the team
This is true Kobe would of passed mj if they got cp3 and they would repeated.🤔
No way they vetoed Chris Paul to the lakers but not KD to the warriors
kd signed in free agency
Y’all gotta listen to Gilbert arenas. He said exactly why it was vetoed. While the lakers were trading pay n Lamar Odom for Chris Paul. They had a second deal in the works that was set to get done. Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard . The lakers woulda had cp3 and Dwight with like 25 million in cap space. Which was before the cap spike. So max contracts were 12-14 mill a year. David stern knew all this n shut it down at owners request.
Idk why its so hard to understand the nba owned the hornets and the gm was about to make a dumb ass trade for their best player so the owner of the team stopped it from happening any smart owner would have made that same choice
Well they did rig the draft for no to get ad so they can get something back for losing cp3
Man, NGL this is the first I heard that Stern had passed on 🤦♂️, RIP 🙏
Damn whea u been😭
bro what
Rip mafia boss. Ok
I think this video suffers a little from recency bias. Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol were considered very good players at the time. Also, I believe that David Stern was a de facto owner/govenor of the Hornets at the time, so he was worried about being connected to a trade that could look like he was selling out a struggling franchise to shift the power dynamics of the league.
Pau Gasol was going to the Rockets so him being a good player does not matter.
Vetoed trade to Lakers so traded him to Clippers instaed😂
why does everything have to be about lies these days? I just wanted to learn more about baskeball.
you gotta learn the truth 🤷♂
Learn about what exactly?
we’re on off season
I think this is two-fold. Chris Paul being traded at all means whatever league exec who made those comments is 100% right. All 30 GMs were told CP3 could be had. The lakers and rockets made a trade to get the players they did and it fell through. What I think happened here is what happens all the time and we gotta be weary of this every off-season. The trade got leaked, announced, whatever you want to call it before it could be made official. Teams can agree to trades essentially and figure out the fine details on the back end. The general manager has that authority and doesn’t need the president of basketball of operations permission, but for the trade to go through he does need his yay or nay. I think what happened was David Stern and the nba as the operating presidents of basketball operations let the GM know Chris Paul is on the trade block. They let all 30 teams know he could be had for the right price, and David Stern told his Gm to go get the job done. If he knew he needed David Sterns yes or no for the trade to go through why would he agree to a trade that he knew would be “going behind your back”? The trade got announced behind it wasn’t fully approved and David Stern said my hand will not be forced and I don’t like the trade. Which he has the power to do. Dale Demps should’ve asked him before the trade got announced if he can help it idk that far, but if not then it’s an unfortunate set of circumstances that fall on Dale Demps. I understand they had the power, but I agree David Stern didn’t care about the players. He cared about the league as a business. He learned later on the players are the league…
this was hard to follow
If kobe and Cp3 happen there might a chance that miami heat will less championship and LeBron will never be in GOAT conversation because kobe and cp3 hindered his goal
Maybe... they still get a chip... maybe and Lebron doesn't go on to the Cavs and win and certainly never comes to LA
Evervy vid the same title...
Stern in his grave & I still can't forgive him
Paul George to the Lakers instead of Lebron the team would be a championship squad in less than two years with the young core intact.
How can they veto this trade but not Kevin Durant
They owned the Hornets. David Stern was the owner of the team. He is not the owner of any team Durant has ever been on.
bro I hate the Lakers. I'm a Celtics fan and I still think it's a load of bs that veto happened. Kevin Martin was still averaging high teens to low twenties so the only difference between him a eg was age. the team was going to tank for AD either way. idc who the owner or GM is there simply should never be a "I changed my mind" on a trade that was already out. it's not fair to all the other people doing their jobs to get the deal done and especially not to the players
Hi
I'm not sure what you're trying to say but they traded him for a bunch of bums and made him play with the clippers one of the garbages teams in the NBA instead of letting him go to the Lakers that had a much better deal and the way I remember the deal they had already traded Lamar Odom to Dallas to open up space
Cp3 isnt a winner, great talent, but not a winner.
Well he sure saved New Orleans! They’re still a poverty franchise 🤠

I'm glad that Chris Paul didn't get traded to the Lakers. The Lakers doesn't need any championships just like the Celtics, Bulls, Warriors, and Spurs. It's time for these low-market teams to finally get a championship and get superstars to come to them. Spread the talent around to these low-market teams instead of these big-market teams getting them all the time
I though the biggest lie from the NBA was calling your own national champion as "world champion"
your content is getting lower in quality, what happened to you man?
NGL Paul to the Lakers made no sense. Kobe was a one man show on offense and needed only bigs to demand doubles in the post and to get rebounds. A ball dominate, small pass first guard wouldn’t help Kobe at all unless he was a spot up shooter. Let’s be real, you need your big time players to play big in close games and during that point in lakers history those big possessions were reserved for Kobe time. Paul is useless as a spot up shooter when Kobe says give me the ball and gtfo the way.
You exposed? Lol
CP3 on the lakers would’ve changed his legacy so much
