This is the beauty of your channel. It's not what is the best of Everything, but what is the best for You. Saving us money, by making us ask "what do you really need, not what name do you want to buy"... I got the Katana mini, not because I disagreed with you that it was your 2nd, now 3rd choice for best mini amp. But because I got it at 50% of the cost of the other 2. And it does what I need it to do. Another great review, keep them coming, it helps people out here. Thanks.
I have this unit from a while and it's fantastic with the 2.1 firmware. Sometimes can be a little overwhelming with all those amps and effects but it's compact, reliable, robust, modular and sounds good.
Loved the video Elmo. Modelers are getting so good that relatively inexpensive ones like the Hotone 2 sound fantastic and for a guy like me who plays at home mostly, I could get every tone I could want. Yeah, I'd love a quad cortex or the line 6 helix but to be honest, I have every tone I could want between my line 6 hd pod pro ($259 used) and my tonex pedal. I get it, everyone wants the new toy but there's a lot of great tones to be had by older gear. Little less user friendly but I have more than gotten my money's worth out of my old line 6 hd pod pro. The amp models in that unit sound really good once you bypass the built in cab irs. Those are rubbish.
Sounds great. Worship guitarist in the States, experienced the devaluation thing with the advent of Headrush Core (had been using the gigboard). Went back to amp with di through effects loop. If another modeler is in the future, it may very well be this one. Great presentation and playing, many thanks.
Great video as ever. I bought a Line 6 Pod Go a year or so ago, and although it has its limitations in terms of signal path, the amp, speaker, and mic modelling in it sounds amazing to my ear. It has the perfect blend of plug in & go, and multiple parameters to tweak. These amp modelling multi fx things have just become so good nowadays. I’ve yet to gig with it, but the thought of just having this and a bunch of leads pluging into the house PA compared to lugging amps around is very appealing ☺️
same idea! i bought a mooer ge300 and for the last 5 years or so i see a lot of new gear coming out and the thing holds me back is that the new hotone or quad core they dont have huge difference compared to my setup, spend money wisely
I have got Boss GT-1. It is like from the previous decade, tetris like UI. But I grow to like it since I learnt the guitar with it. But nowadays, a processor with easy to use colorful UI does not look that bad xD
Had and got rid of the PodGo. Great sounds with an interface I couldn't stand. Moved to Headrush MX5 and dumped it for what found to be dull sounds. Landed on this unit and have pretty much stopped shopping since. Fantastic sounds and so easy to navigate.
Got mine in November last year for €399,- brandnew during the Black Friday deals. Use it as a preamp into a Nano Legacy "power" amp, and I love the tones. Especially dig the fact that you can build your own pre- and power amp combinations with the signal chain. I've "built" a lovely preset from the dumble modules and the whole rig has had at least the same, if not more play time than my SV20H sitting right next to it. Great stuff.
Hey man, try out the new Software update. It unlocks new amps. I think it's called Petrus HD. Also you can access scenes and the lag time when switching presets is cut down dramatically. Definitely worth it Cheers for the Videos. Keep up the good work.
The trendiest and spendiest gear is often not the best gear for my needs. (There's no substitute for quality, though.) For instance, the Boss DS-1. Cheap, durable, reliable, does what I need. Pow! Problem solved. Good talk.
good review :) with the V2 firmware it's even better (making it like the stage with only 3 scenes). I'm using it with a tonex in the effect loop and it rocks and it's incredible in a parallel effects paths all of that thanks to the ampero :)
Elmo gave a great demonstration. How did the Hotone website describe this gadget? "Mainstream modeling methods are generally based on static state circuitry modeling or “black box” theory, which just “come close” to the modeled sound. CDCM HD & F.I.R.E. employs a complex system based on dynamic feature modeling. In this matrix, the technology “rebuilds” the entire circuitry using modeled electronic components, resulting in a tone that is vivid, accurate and expressive. More than that, the new system enhances the relationship between amps and PA systems, delivering a realistic feel and response you’ve never before experienced on digital gear." I got a whole lot more understanding with Elmo's video. I got to wonder how these guys would sell tomatoes.
I have a Helix HX Stomp, but I have limited time for playing so I’m good with it for good. I have a good amp and a good 1x12 cab, and a bunch of pedals I have hoarded since 1995 so no need to buy new gear… I may get into building pedals now 😅
Incredible...I bought one Yesterday 85€ less from somebody who try it just a few hours. Maybe I sold my Yamaha 30ii ( i don't know!?)...I think it worth the price I have had a HEADRUSH by the past, i sold it for a EHV 15W So if you really want to save money buy a second hand not a brand new Thanks for you vidéo 👍
I am not a professionnal , i just play home (maybe one day with a band) and i have spent too much money with tube amp , pedal ,... etc . Recently i bought a tonex and it's sound brillant !!! the only downside for me is the lack of delay but i can live without it :) reverb do the job :)
Get you a joyo nascar delay if you like analog bucket brigade style delay or I’m sure there’s some affordable digital delays on Amazon or Reverb. Delay pedals seem to be too expensive for what they do for me at least, but I’m one of those chorus fellas, but I bought the NASCAR delay because it was cheap compared to like an MXR carbon copy and I only use it as an echo for cleans or a very short 1 repeat low mix to fatten up leads and it does those two things just fine, it gets pretty filthy if you set it longer with more repeats but some people want that from an analog delay. Anyway my advice if you’re not trying to be the Edge find a cheap delay and set and forget it.
I've been on a similar journey, only I went from full Helix Floor down to a Valeton GP200. The Valeton has all the sounds and switching options I need and more, and it's much smaller, much lighter, easier to program and a fraction of the price of the Helix. The Helix was really impressive, but total overkill for what I needed.
It'll probably have a capture function in the near future, it's already available in the new beta firmware for the stage. I'll update my stage and record a video testing it. Ampero II Stage Beta Firmware B1.2.5
Great video. So true. I sold my kemper for the same reason. I am getting by with my pod go and a fender FR10 speaker. But still curious how this unit (as well as many others in the pod go price range) sounds compared to a pod go. That goes for ease of use, presets, etc? I do play live in a band and mostly play heavy rock stuff so distortion sounds are the most important to me. Maybe a video on that from you would be great. Since you do seem to be very honest on all your reviews. A shoot out between affordable modelers that you can gig with. 🤷🏼♂️ Just an idea. Thanks for the work you are doing. Love your videos. 👍🏼
I took a chance on this and picked one up for $275 USD (open box item) and was surprised at how capable it was. It replaced my 8 Boss pedals and sounded better than all of them, so I sold them. However, my amp is now my limiting factor… so I can’t really say this saved me any money 😄
I think the company actually pronounces it as Hot-Tone. They could fix the confusion by combining a lower case "t" and upper "T" into a single symbol with 2 horizontal lines. This would create a distinct, cool looking, and trademarkable name.
Elmo, I have just got myself a canoe, I am practicing with it as we speak, but my goal is to conquer the Inari Lake next year, I am offering you a free week on Inari if you want to go?
i just watched both of your quad cortex videos and i am absolutely confused because you said you'll keep it and that you really like it besides the fact that the plexi didn't sound as good as the real amp. and in this video you said you barely used it.
As the late great Paul Harrell said, "Is it enough of a difference to make a difference?" Probably not. We all need to practice more and worry less about gear.
I have the Ampero 2 stomp, and I’m playing rock/hard blues stuff and when playing solo gig (over backing track) I am using it instead of my tube amp. I was thinking about a Quad Cortex or a Fractal, but I really wonder if it justifies the price difference (for my use)only use 3 different sounds . I don’t know …
Many thanks for this video, because I'm seriously considering buying the Hotone Ampero II Stomp. What SD pickup have you installed at the bridge? Little '59, Little '78 or JB Junior? Many thanks again
@Elmo - are we hearing this direct to a DAW or is it going into the effects return / power amp in of an amp? IMHO, people could save even more money by using this type of device into the power amp and speaker of a guitar amp on live gigs (of course with the IR/speaker sim disabled). The guitar amp speaker IS the IR.
I got mine yesterday. I use it connected to the amp in port from my Boss Katana 100 (gen 3) - basically turning the amp into a power amp. The Ampero sounds way better when not using the cab effects from those presets.
After purchasing the Hotone Ampero II a couple of times and trying to fall in love with it (twice), I would NOT recommend it..It still has a noticeable digital sound to it.. For a little bit more money, you can get a Kemper Player...a much much better option.
All modelers are merely special built computers. ALL computers have a built in redundancy. In short once the company that makes them replaces it with a new model it is worth half and then it is worth less and less over a couple of years. In short it is soon a door stop or paper weight. If all you have is a mic and a good amp but provide music the client wants in a timely way you will get all the work. In short a you can not get rich racing a Ferrari unless you are an outstanding driver, but you can make a very good living with a pickup truck.

Into a mixer.
Elmo - I’d be really interested in your thoughts of the Spark 2 versus this Ampero Stomp 2. Specifically for an at-home practice rig (learner?).

is it better than the Line6 HX Stomp ?
you can blend amps and IRs , it sounds better than tubes.
