@@ardi08 1st I want to state that kola nut should not be taken with certain medications. So always consult your Dr and do your research before consuming any herbal teas/etc. split the nut in 2 - there is a natural line on the nut that you can follow. My family always adds cinnamon leaves, a bit of salt, fresh nutmeg, the "lace" from the nutmeg, vanilla for flavoring, and also coconut milk. Kolanut is a good stimulant, it induces such a hunger if you have too much of it and can make you feel dizzy, some have sweet peels others are just bland like the one you tasted. Kola comes in different colors namely; white, red, brown, and purple. The taste depends on the type, maturity (premature fruits taste better), storage, and how long they've been in storage. Side effects of consuming kola range from temporary to permanent teeth discoloration, fingernail discoloration, it is generally believed to also cause blood shortages in humans, (I'm yet to see any scientific proof for this though).

I'm not sure about Jamaican folk medicine. I hear they sometimes swallow castor oil seeds as a purgative (source of ricin) ! Elsewhere in the world they only use the oil.
You should try yopo made in a very similar manner. Itll get you whack too. Edit, you want it with theobroma bicolor inner bark ash. The theobromine boosts the effects.

I live in Jamaica and I have no idea what "fish poisoning" is. Also, I use it as an appetite suppressant if I'm dieting. Recently they started stocking the teabags in grocery stores. If you have it ground up and dried in a bag like that then that's how they sell it at the market.
I like how cacao and kola nut plant fruit are so close in appearance. South America and Africa once together but now apart yet some plants are similar. I wonder what other plants are similar between the two regions?
When I worked offshore my co-worker Benedict Bankole hooked me up with some of this. He had two kinds. One was larger and the other was supposed to be stronger-maybe the bitter cola?
I wonder what would happen if you fermented it with some sugar and then roasted it and made it into a powder like coffee. Will try it myself, hopefully there are Kola nuts on sale online.
There is a soft drink called inca kola that is almost the exact same color as the tea you made. Maybe you should try it, but then again it is just cola.
About kola vs. betel: I have heard that betel nuts contain nicotine, while Kola nuts, as you say, contain caffeine and some theobromine. Nicotine is also a stimulant, but its chemical action is rather different from that of caffeine and theobromine.
Betel nuts do NOT contain nicotine. They contain arecoline. Even though it is a stimulant, it does not affect the nervous system in the same ways as caffeine, theobromine, or nicotine. In fact, it is quite unique.

"If my heart exploads I'll make a video about that too" - Now I imagine a ghost filming his body at the hospital...
Bissy pods have a really nice smell especially when they are fresh n the white stuff is still on the seed. Really big tree in my garden the pods fall every year n the seeds grow like crazy
Thanks for the great experience! Love your kitty! cheers!
Thanks for watching!
just wanted to pop in here and say i did the captions for this video. i honestly took longer than i maybe should have, but i wanted to make them as good as possible because i liked the video so much :^) hope they work well, and i hope to get another one of your vids soon!
Learnt for sure, thank you for the work, looks like a great channel.
4:06 Omg thank you for enlightening me with regard to the name Coca-Cola (Kola)!
I'm sure you already know this, but for the sake of the other viewers, and since theobromine and cats came up, Theobromine is deadly to cats and dogs. Their systems can't handle stimulants like that, so always be extra careful when using things that contain a lot of it. ^_^
Yep Vostok isn't allowed to have kola or chocolate
Grapes and raisins are also very dangerous to dogs. Deadly.
I'm not sure about Jamaican folk medicine. I hear they sometimes swallow castor oil seeds as a purgative (source of ricin) ! Elsewhere in the world they only use the oil.
I had some tobacco nasal snuff that was mixed with garcinia Cambogia, stuff was like crack. Reminds me I need some more of that, been too long.
You should try yopo made in a very similar manner. Itll get you whack too. Edit, you want it with theobroma bicolor inner bark ash. The theobromine boosts the effects.
I had some redbull organic cola, which has real kola nut in it, along with nutmeg, cardamom, orange, lemon, and some other stuff, tasted pretty good. Many smaller company colas have it.
A Bolivian woman of my acquaintance told me that coca leaf (chewed or as a tea) really helps the body resist both cold and altitude, and that a typical Bolivian after dinner beverage was a tea of chamomile, anise, and coca leaf. Good for the digestion and all around sense of well-being.. Speaking of coca, I recall my grandmother saying, "Coca-Cola sure did lose its zip when they took the cocaine out of it!" I don't doubt.
That’s cool! I didn’t know it looks like it does. But hey on a different note, have you considered wearing a kilt? They are amazing!! All guys should kilt.
*HEY JARED* I have an ever growing collection of fruiting plants that I am growing, but I'm into the stage of collection where I'm looking for harder to get plants. I was wondering if in your "fruit exploring" you've connected with fruiting plant collectors who might have harder to get plants. Is there a forum or online group to join? Any specific person to contact. Right now I am specifically looking for crowberry, salmonberry, cloudberry, and buffaloberry plants. I can find seeds, but in my experience those seeds you buy on eBay rarely geminate.
Sure! try the rare fruit forum. they have a section for seed sales and trade. the fb group "grow all the fruits" and "rare fruit- rare edible plants" are also helpful
@@WeirdExplorer Thank you. :)
While it doesn't sound appetizing, the way the effects are described make it sound like a great alternative to coffee if there isn't any available.
I live in Jamaica and I have no idea what "fish poisoning" is. Also, I use it as an appetite suppressant if I'm dieting. Recently they started stocking the teabags in grocery stores. If you have it ground up and dried in a bag like that then that's how they sell it at the market.
You always get me hungry and excited for food that I can not try :/
I like how cacao and kola nut plant fruit are so close in appearance. South America and Africa once together but now apart yet some plants are similar. I wonder what other plants are similar between the two regions?
8:11 perfect background noise to illustrate what you meant lol
When I worked offshore my co-worker Benedict Bankole hooked me up with some of this. He had two kinds. One was larger and the other was supposed to be stronger-maybe the bitter cola?
In my country Jamaica we use Bizzy for food poisoning or if you step on a nail you grate it and put it on the wound
I wonder what would happen if you fermented it with some sugar and then roasted it and made it into a powder like coffee. Will try it myself, hopefully there are Kola nuts on sale online.
Post says,"once used",what is being used now for the cola flavor?
There is a soft drink called inca kola that is almost the exact same color as the tea you made. Maybe you should try it, but then again it is just cola.
If this thing could grow here, I wouldn't need my morning Monster every damn day.
The colour of the kola tea reminds me of a golden Yunnan tea I've had before, so it looked really good to me. Too bad it didn't have a better flavour.
Really interesting. Thank you
I read about this in "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. This nut is a big deal among Igbo people in Niger.
About kola vs. betel: I have heard that betel nuts contain nicotine, while Kola nuts, as you say, contain caffeine and some theobromine. Nicotine is also a stimulant, but its chemical action is rather different from that of caffeine and theobromine.
Could it be treatment against tobacco addiction?
Betel nuts do NOT contain nicotine.
They contain arecoline.
Even though it is a stimulant, it does not affect the nervous system in the same ways as caffeine, theobromine, or nicotine. In fact, it is quite unique.
Betel is consumed with tobacco. Doesnt contain nicotine itself.
@@hatakah areconline and nicotine are simmilar in that they both bind to acetylcholine receptors, however areconline acts mostly on muscarinic acetylcholine and nicotine on nicotinic acetylcholine.
Interesting, sounds like evidence that nicotine itself may be one of the primary carcinogens, as betel nut chewing is known to be carcinogenic.
They have an artisanal soda maker in Montreal that uses Kola nut. It's called Henri Sodas
We have that in Jamaica. We roast the nut and grind it to make tea. People claim it flushes toxins from your body
Kola nut definitely helps your eyesight and makes you super focused. I would love to try it in its natural form alone, without anything else added. LOL at your eyes. that happens to me every time. I think that may be why I like it so much.
Khat as well?!? Wow you guys are going all out! Lol!
I left that one up to Steven. it's got a bad reputation
Weird Explorer you are correct! Funny thing being that it can still be found in several markets in major cities in the US. Even being that is a schedule 1 “drug”
Your cat is cool, and has heterochromia. Looks like one eye is blue and the other green. I have concentric heterochromia; 2 rings of colors in each eye.
. .. but did you try the coca and the Kola at the same time?
In Jamaica it's called bissy ,It's used for poison remedy ,and as a drench for animals.
where can one get the material for planting here in Uganda?
The first one shown ....kola nut we call it in jamaica by the name ...bizzie. we create it.. dry it and brew it to make a very nice tea. We sweeten the tea with condensed milk..
