  • In this VladTV exclusive, former NBA player and 2x champion with the Chicago Bulls, Craig Hodges stopped by to give his side of the Bulls title run and dispelled some of the media myths associated with Michael Jordan. Hodges discussed how his politics have been shaped by his upbringing in Chicago Heights and the political fervor in his household to the social justice education he received while in college at Long Beach State. He also recounted being blackballed by the NBA after showing up to the Bulls' White House visit in a dashiki and passed on a letter to then-President George H.W. Bush.

In 1994 The warriors cut me without a practice tryout after I was invited by trainers just because Don Nelson had an attitude with a manager who was on the phone at practice and he kicked him out and cussed everybody out and looked at me and said son you ain't getting no damn tryout. He was a trip. I was waiting to play sitting right next to a Chris Webber who had a broken leg at the time. Ended my NBA career before it even started. • @ronsworld250
      @ronsworld250 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed and I was frustrated that when Craig would expound on a heavy, really deep topic, Vlad would go right back to asking a ‘safe’ question about basketball instead of asking follow-up questions to one of Craig’s impassioned points or responses. That is what a good interviewer does and how he elicits an interesting less formulaic, by the book interview. When Craig would talk about or make a passionate point on things, I wanted to hear more. For instance, his blackballing from the league, I wanted Vlad to have Craig talk more about his feelings towards the league and management throughout the league. It pained me because this was utter, BS. Actually, it was criminal. To be deprived of gaining income that would have been plentiful and well earned and deserved and not to receive it was gut wrenching. To be deprived of continuing your career at your peak is frustrating and criminal. Plus, I really was anxious to hear what and how a thinking man was going to use said, well deserved money to better the community. For those clowns who did this to him and allowed it to happen, shame them more. Now, this kind of crap is maddening to me when the establishment is allowed to operate this way. I am definitely going to buy his book. I want to hear more.

I would welcome an opportunity to meet him face-to-face (social distancing of course). I know the effects of racism as an African American male growing up in the 1960s the main difference today is the social media platform. Racism has been a dominating presence in America, I truly felt the effects while serving in the U.S. Army (24 years). Imagine you get sent all over the world representing your country and it is like they don't care, you feel like your service means nothing sometimes. Peace to you my brother, keep the cause alive.

    Craig Hodges was born to be a activist, political activism runs in his blood line, his family sowed something deep in him. Damn he had a minimum contract of $40,000 in 1982, to $900,000 today! This guy understands how the politics works in sports and the world. Brotha said I can a gun before I can get head of lettuce.

    When you have an African-centered political and cultural consciousness these are the types of thoughts you have. This is why the Black athlete must have an African socialization and educational upbringing. They could be a economic and social instrument for change.

    Mr.Greg Hodges came from some strong powerful people in his life I remember his mom and aunts all in the educational field so he had a team behind him that I know that pushed him the men he is today I also grew up in Chicago Heights put I didnt have to endure what he had to endure so am so glad there were people to march for our rights and I didnt have to go thru this am so proud that he made it out because some people didnt get the opportunity to do what he did and for that I salute him may god continue to bless him.

    Savannah Georgia representing... I wasn't going watch Craig Hodges at this time... But now I see why he wasn't on the front page the league... He to conscious. We allow them to put our heroes in our faces with one if he had a mind of Hodges.. Good interview open my eyes of the history of life and the game itself.. Jordan knew what he was doing. I don't want nothing from him his money is his money and I will still by his shoe but you can't be great or hero if you don't speak on the behalf of your people that supported you

      My EARS stood up like a Doberman when I heard him say the name Ray McCoy.Always used to walk with my " bible" Street & Smith magazine and my Basketball Weekly newspapers. I can remember when Ray was at the same level as Isiah Thomas, some even had Ray rated ahead of Isiah H.S Class of '79.

    First let me say thank you brother Craig Hodges for your teachings and sacrifices. I love the interview. You were done wrong on so many levels by so many people. I have followed your career from day one but what stands out for me the most is when. You were brought in for your last Three Point Contest. I will never forget the look on your face when you didn't win. It was like at that moment you knew that your NBA career was over. It was like if you didn't win you had no chance of getting back in. You are a black man who stands on his beliefs . Michael Jordan could have saved you but he didn't . You wont say it but we all saw what happened. All he had to say is I want Hodges on this team . I pray to our ancestors that you are restored to full power. Love your brother Dirk
