What's your reason for WANTING an Apple Watch Ultra? Go! ⬇

    • @kendraorndorff7642
      @kendraorndorff7642 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Main reason is for the bigger, brighter display. Better battery is good to have as well. I am giving my Series 7 titanium 45mm to my Aunt. I am 50 and use readers, so the bigger brighter screen is awesome. I exercise every day, walk, lift, spinning classes, not anything extreme. Picked my Ultra up yesterday, and I love it. It is awesome!! I have a 6.5 inch wrist, and got the medium alpine loop. A small might have worked as well, as I only have 3 more loops left if I need to tighten it. This watch is very comfortable, slept with it fine last night. I am very happy with my purchase.

If I was in the apple ecosystem, I would do it. Currently rocking the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. It's big. I can't imagine the Ulta is too much bigger?
If I ever switched from Samsung S Ultra series to iPhone, I would definitely be interested. Especially for the dual gps and the brightness and of course, the battery 🔋.

Because it looks the Mutz , plus for work and Mountain Biking, oh and plus I use my old watch to call 999 and give CPR to a fallen walker in the woods while walking the dog, since then would never be without one

The Apple Watch Ultra is amazing. Lasted me about a solid 36-40 hours. That is including 2 sleep cycles, cellular usage to send/receive calls(away from phone), and a 7.5 hour workout to continuously monitor my calorie output while at my labor intensive job on top of 2 1.5 hour workout sessions at the gym. The battery and phone call experience as well as the bigger/brighter screen alone is worth it in my opinion. I comfortably used an Apple Watch as a phone substitute for about 2 days. I'm also a moderate backpacker which is just icing on the cake. Highly Recommend.

Those who are concerned about the size should note a subtle difference between the Ocean straps and the other two types: the Ocean straps do not have the little metal parts that look like an extension at the top and bottom of the watch. The rubber starts right in the socket and curves more quickly down onto your wrist. This makes the watch seem and feel smaller. Check out any review of the straps to see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps someone! Three weeks on, I absolutely love my Ultra.

So I also got the Ultra and AirPods Pro 2's Friday, but I went for the green Alpine strap - watching your video I have almost identical wrists to you. I made a boo-boo though, and accidentally ordered the small strap! It's a bit tight getting over my hand, but once on its absolutely fine. Initial thoughts are that the Ultra is fine on my wrist, and I don't notice it on there at all; the screen is brilliant, and the big battery is a total godsend for me as I use mine for sleep tracking. I will be testing out this evening on my own modest run with my new AirPods, and it will be interesting to see how the GPS compares as we run through the woods. Really like it though!

Something that no one is mentioning is that if you're using the workout settings for cycling or running you need to review your Location Services and make sure the ones you need to track data are active. On your phone go to: System Prefs.>Privacy & Security>Location Services (turn them on)>scroll all the way down to System Services and turn on>motion calibration & distance. Now all metrics are turned on for cycling and running activities.

Thanks for the nice review, Mark! I bought an Apple Watch Series 1 when it cam out about 6 years ago. Still wearing it today, even though a year ago the battery bulged so much it popped the screen off! So I replaced the battery, popped the screen back in place and the Series 1 was back on my wrist as my daily watch. So, even though it still works and I get a full day's use thanks to the replacement battery, I figured I was overdue for an upgrade. So the Ultra will be under the Christmas tree with my name on it! (I actually nabbed it a week before Thanksgiving when Best Buy had their pre Black Friday pricing of $739.) So I'm looking forward to putting this beast of a watch on my wrist and having fun exploring all it can do. I'm also considering going "full cellular" to see if it can replace my iPhone 13 Pro.

Something I am considering trying out is rotating the crown to the left (on left wrist) and setting that in the app. I was told that should help alleviate the accidental Action bump.

I'm a beer drinking fatso who bought the Ultra....I absolutely love it lol. For me it's the peace of mind of not worrying about bumping my watch on a wall, chair, etc and worry about having an ugly case on it. The battery life is incredible too. Since I don't use the watch to it's absolute potential with all the exercise, I can easily get 48 hours of normal use.

I actually wish Apple would add the siren option to all its watches in the future. It´s an incredibly useful feature, not just for when lost, but also as an alarm in case you´re attacked somewhere more remote. However, as it stands the Ultra is way too big for my wrist to spend this kind of money.

I still use an apple watch 4, with a saphire screen and LTE, and it rocks. It still gives me about two days of battery life unless I need to make phone calls.
So I feel that it was worth it since I'll keep using for AT LEAST 5 years.
My wife decided to buy cheaper fitbits and needed to replace her fitbit every year.
So, if I had to buy a new apple watch, I'd buy a series 8 apple watch with saphire screen.

I absolutely love my new Apple Watch Ultra... I had the series 6 before so for me it was a huge jump... regarding the battery, like you when I got it, I had 95% charge and started to wear it right away and that was on a Friday at 1h00 pm... I use all features, I track my sleep with it, do workouts and listen to music and podcast (without my phone) using my cell data and I charged it back, Sunday 7h00 pm so for me the battery lasted over 52 hours before I got my 10% warning.... as for the crown/action button issue, I kept it on my left wrist but flipped the crown on left side and it actually works even better for me and I stopped accidently pushing on my action button.... that is my appreciation of my new Apple Watch Ultra !!!!!

    Thank’s for sharing this Mark, to answer your question i’d like to have an Apple Watch Ultra because;
1-) I’ve never owned an Apple Watch before
2-) Luminosity and watch face size is almost mandatory at my age...
3-) I desperately need to replace my old FitBit which has none of these requirements (small, low luminosity, minimal functions but ok great battery life [of course since it does so little] ]
    4-) It looks great
5-) Would love to play with it’s functions; Apps, Mail, phone calls etc)
6-) It has the same name as my computer (Studio Ultra)
Now tell me, am i vain ?

Oh my, what a fantastic first impression summary. I loved every minute of it.
And yes, the Ultra is worth the 849 quid.
Have you checked out that metal stainless steel wrist band Apple is offering, not the Milanese one. With that the Ultra looks awesome, very serious business look.
    I need one myself!
The bigger screen does it for me, and I love my  Watch to monitor my vital signs, and the ease of mind to be able to get help if something’s happening. I do long hikes with my dogs, and they can get a bit far out in the woods, where I hardly ever meet other people. The Bavarian Forest really has huge stretches of woodland and remote areas. By no means I am into extreme sports, but the Ultra is perfect for me.

Change the orientation of the Ultra so the crown is on the left side of the watch and the may alleviate you pushing the action button. My fore finger is usually at the 2 o’clock position when I use my thumb to push the crown or the button now above it. I got used to having my Apple Watch orientation that way due to older Apple Watch’s crowns being depressed when putting my hand into a pocket or being bent back far enough to depress the crown. So I changed it to “crown on the left’ and problem resolved.

So I started training earlier this year for marathon running my first one is in November final goal is to do a ulta marathon. My biggest annoyance with the normal Apple Watch was accuracy. Where I run has pretty dense trees and the times my husband joins me I realize my watch isn’t registering my distance well. He would complete a mile and I would still have about .10 of a mile to go. So my pace would be slower than his and my data would be off. I was actually looking into getting a Garmin when Apple announced the Ultra. Still hasn’t arrived but I’m excited to put it to use.

looks pretty but i think it might be missing a few things that it's competitors have and as a climber/mountaineer often spending days in the mountains especially in winter I don't think that battery life would cut it. Also i don't see any good map/nav GPS support other than having GPS and way point drop. Garmin & co don't have anything to worry about at this point. maybe version 3 will be nearer what your average hiker/mountaineer would need. Still, it does look bright and pretty. Maybe they'll and more with updates for this price you would expect that. The red mode would stop you from losing your natural night vision.

For £850 you could have a titanium Huawei, Swatch moon watch and dedicated dive computer. All of which would fit your wrist, have sensible straps and will out last the apple. You would have enough change to buy a new pair of trainers and cap.

I have the galaxy watch 5 pro but I feel that can been worn with a lot of things and the matte black matches a lot of bands and is not as big as the Ultra. We shall see. Great video good sir.

I live on a ranch. So im always out in the middle of the field on hours end to plant corn and beans or bring cattle and horses in from the pastures. I also do wild game hunting, and so having something more rugged with features I wonder if that'd be worth it for people like me? Also I’d love to see the ultra in a 44mm for people with smaller wrists because I have the 44mm and it’s big but it’s not overtly big and I have tiny wrists. So that’s be cool to see in the near future! But overall Beautiful device! :)

Thank you for an interesting review. I own AW7 Hermes and I was until now convinced I could do w/o Ultra, but today I decided to order one after all. As you, I am also regular person i.e. not extreme sports person, but I am sure this will do well with weekly swimming and daily mountain biking. I do look forward to a cold winter in Finland, so Ultra should do better in those conditions compared to AW7.

haha, this is so good and love your Londener sense of humor. Well one thing is for sure, your fantastic new Ultra Watch is getting you out for a good solid hike next week. WInner! As you say, it‘s not for super professionals, but for people like you, and people like myself. This will look good at the pub.., the girls will be thinking „ah he‘s got the Apple Watch Ultra, he might well be a deep sea diver or Everest Mountain climbing kind of guy, wow! „

I have broken multiple Apple watches doing my workouts, the first time was when I was tossing the same 15 lbs block of concrete back and forth, the block hit my watch a little and the screen broke, this last time I had on boxing fist wraps and the pressure from the wraps broke the Digital Crown, so I hope this one is a bit more durable

It looks like it was made by VTech. They had to go that big to get a watch with a semi decent battery life. If you want a sports watch there are far better option with 2 week battery life, but they aren’t made by apple.

Great video. I agree with you that Apple KNOWS exactly how much this will appeal to more than “extreme sports” enthusiasts. It’s “aspirational” in the same way the original Watch was aspirational. People who considered themselves “active” had an argument early in the forums. It started with people who walked a mile or two with their dogs or around the park everyday who were furious the watch didn’t advance their “Move” ring. Other active people and Apple agreed it should require more than a casual stroll but activity that actually increased cardio rates. Many people pushed themselves to meet the watches standards and complete rings became the main objective. I think the Ultra will push active people further and for everyone else it’s a bigger screen, big battery iWatch Max.

The most pressing question I have, is what the heck is on YOUR wrist??? Lol, the black thingy that looks like it has no display? Is that some sort of Apple watch screen cover band? I've seen a couple of people wear this same thing, couldn't figure it out. Thanks!

Great vid, liked to see the Sennheiser M4 at the start :) Will there be a vid about it? The watch looks nice, although it seems big to people with smaller wrist.
But just one rhetorical question, if the charger is not included in the Iphone box because of environmental stuff, then why is the Apple Watch in a box that could fit a whole Iphone in it? (maybe even with a charger)

I'll buy one for the huge watchface and battery life. As someone who used to wear those dive watches (with a big watchface), the Apple Watch Ultra is suited for me. The standard Apple Watch is too small for my big wrist.

I'm a hiker who does all that crazy stuff. (Have done multi-thousand mile multi-month trips, etc.) My gut impression:
    1) The battery life is great for an Apple Watch, but keeping this thing charged in the backcountry with 5-10 days between resupplies would suck. Yeah, most folks carry a battery pack these days, but adding another device to keep charged isn't great. And the charger adds weight to your load as well.
    2) The lack of an integrated gps navigation app with topo maps etc. is pretty lame. I haven't tested the watch app from Gaia GPS but wouldn't be surprised if it's good. Even so, Apple should have worked with them or someone else to ship this with better backcountry navigation tools. It's a little embarrassing that they shipped without this given the (claimed) intended audience.
Still, I might buy one. It's otherwise a great device, and I'd love to be able to use my regular smartwatch in the backcountry. Will definitely look into third party nav apps first though.
Thanks for the great reviews, love the channel.

@@MarkEllisReviews They sure do. But it's mostly about the terrible interface design from the competition. Do you remember what it was like to program a VCR? I wonder if the folks who designed those all got hired by GPS watch makers...
