    I’m a stingray guy at heart but I always enjoyed the look of the older American deluxe basses with the double jazz hum bucker. This looks like an interesting mashup of both styles - I think I see a purchase in my future!

    I'd like the pickups to be moved more towards the neck. The humbucker in the musicman sweet spot, and the P closer to the neck for more boomy low end. Still seems incredible for the price though.

    I own a MP4 and modded it with Delano Pickups and a Noll preamp. Especially the bridge pickup sounds so much more punchy and offers so much more low end that I have a sneaking suspicion:
    Maybe this pickup has been wired in parallel mode to provide a more "jazzbassy" tone? I'm just too lazy to build it back again to try it out and prove my theory…

  • @rmccain99
    @rmccain99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The bridge pickup should be bright to complement range of the neck pickup.

    • @soullessSiIence

  • @FrankSafran
    @FrankSafran 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got it in off-white - replaced the preamp instantly with a Glockenklang 2 band - this improved the sound and got rid of the clipping which the original preamp produced. (btw I love the plek track from 1.30ish onwards) - although this Bass cuts easily through with any band due to the very strong midrange. I do not use it much (Jazz bass does the job quiet good). I just find the sound bit too harsh and hard to "fit in the mix" - still a respectable instrument at the price point - I might have to replace the pickups, too, but then I could just as well buy another bass :) One big bummer is the TELE style jack : I had to apply super glue to get it stay put, it easily becomes loose

    I got one a few months ago, the pickups are Ceramic (the website now says “Ferrite”) and not Alnico V as on this example. The P is so powerful that the preamp clips, but it suits passive mode very well. (I’ve rewired mine passive with 2V 2T and “stereo” output, so I can process the pickups individually.) Construction is really good, I’m about to install heavy strings for a down tuning.

    I don't hear anything wrong with those pickups. In fact, IME Delano big pole pickups sound DEAD. That's my experience with a Maruszczyk Jake I've had and with every single Sandberg I've played. These might sound brighter but also they seem to produce noticeably more mids, way more in fact that the disapointing Delanos.

It has a graphite neck, so it won't move or warp on the road much, or at all. Set it and forget it. You do have to shorten an allen wrench to fit though.

    Why do they have to put (crappy) active electronics in affordable basses? Being able to say "it's active" in a sales pitch is the only argument that comes to mind.
    Anyway, seems like a solid budget instrument.

    • @jcdenton4436

      Yeah it's really difficult to find a good passive bass these days.

      @@jcdenton4436 A few years ago I purchased a cheap Epiphone Toby Deluxe which felt great but sounded... not so great.
      I wanted to upgrade the pickups but I started by gutting the active electronics. Turned out the stock pickups sounded perfectly fine in a passive wiring.

      I rather they include lousy ones than not have any. Helps for future upgrades. Cavity has already been drilled and space made. Anyway generally don't have too much expectation from these budget basses but rather see them as a good project starter than those diy from China
