- Tavares had a number one hit in the Netherlands. In December 2021 they are at spot no. 876 in the Top 2000 in the Netherlands.
Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) is an American R&B, funk and soul music group composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, they would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Tavares is:
• Butch - Feliciano Tavares, born 18 May 1948.
• Chubby - Antone Lee Tavares, born 2 June 1945.
• Pooch - Arthur Lee Tavares, born 12 November 1943.
• Ralph - Ralph Viera Tavares, born 10 December 1942.
• Tiny - Perry Lee Tavares, born 24 October 1949.
1975 turned out to be their most successful year chartwise, with a Top 40 Pop album (In the City), the No. 25 hit "Remember What I Told You to Forget", and their biggest hit, the Top 10 Pop/No. 1 R&B smash "It Only Takes a Minute", which was later successfully covered by both Jonathan King and Take That, and sampled by Jennifer Lopez. They parlayed this success into a spot as an opening act for The Jackson 5. KC and The Sunshine Band was also on this tour. "Minute" was followed by a string of hits: "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), "Don't Take Away the Music" (1976), and "Whodunit" (1977, another No. 1 R&B hit).
'Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel' was no. 1 in the Netherlands Top 40 in 1976.

why can't they bring back music like this? Fantastic talented young men, great musicians.
Agree
Don't need to as it is all here on TH-cam for us all to enjoy!

I’m 63 and Hispanic, well said sir!👍🏼
Thank you!!!
Totally agree, i'm 58 and there wasn't a colour. We all danced, laughed, talked and were friends. Now nobody has "friends", a sad world. Take us back.
Met my wife in a Disco when I was stationed in Germany. Those were great times!
I loved the 70s because integration and unity was the way people thought, now everything is race baiting and division. So sad we don't live in that gentle optimistic world anymore
I'm so thankful for this music being so available years later!!!❤
Back to disco times! I can still dance endlessly on this music.❤ (63 now, haha, you should see me!)
Me too! 😅❤
I miss these great songs. Everything seemed so carefree back then. Maybe that's because when you're young, all you need is good music, friends and dancing. Things seemed more simple. 😥
That's because they were more simple.
Tavares!! these dudes were just the coolest n grooviest guys group going. Those coordinated movements also so cool. They enthralled/captivated all cool music lovers!!!
They were easy on the eyes as well 😍
They were simpler times for younger people probably it helped because the average person didn't have much now everybody wants it all, and no Internet to worry about people's comets about that spot on your face ect.
that is right

In 1976, my brother and I played this song on the record player. We would put on our socks and glide around the room dancing. The bedroom floor was made of wood and we polished it so it could slide, making dance steps easier. Very good times that won't come back...
the type of song that you’ll come back to and then be stuck listening to it for the next week and a half
A week! Try decades!!

OK with me.
... and not regret it for a second!
They just don’t have songs like this now. The dancing and those outfits. Altogether perfect!
You're right. The feel good music of the 70's and 80's are now replaced with indoctrinations and subliminal messages.

Tavares is so underrated
wow im listening to this fantastic all time favourite of mine in 2024 as i was in 1976. I used to roller skate to this and remember dancing round our handbags, they cant take away our memories and nothing beats 70s n 80s music. Part two is just as awesome
This is a perfect example of when Singers/bands/groups used to have talent. Just look at the pride they took in their appearance, choreography, and overall stage presence, not to mention you can actually understand the lyrics. Just an example of the amazing talents that were all over the place in the 70's, I am so lucky to have grown up in that era, and young people now days will never realize what they missed.. (Can i get an AMEN).... hahaha
We had it so good in the 70's...thanks Tavares.

When Music was MUSIC...
YES! I was only 10 when this came out. I had their CD and it's magically disappeared. I came back to them recently because I was reminiscing about music of my youth. As I talked about the Bee Gees, I mentioned More Than A Woman and this song along with Disco Inferno. I am 8 years younger than my other siblings, so I was blessed to be exposed to their music. Real singing, great wardrobe, and great choreography! A kinder simpler time. I miss those Chic Good Times!

This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our timeless BLACK musical talent and cultures contribution to HUMANITY!

I remember like yesterday the day when the band came to the TOPPOP studio to perform their fantastic song. They were the last band performing that day and we had to leave the studio at 5.30 p.m. because another show had to use it. So we taped it one time, wishing to improve it we wanted to do another taping of the same. But the record company asked us to tape their next release - "Don't take away the music". I've never heard the song before, we had just 10 minutes more(or less) of time to use the studio. I sad: Let's do it! Why not?! And we did it......unfortunately the results are far from perfect, but may be you forget it, listening to this FANTASTIC SONG!
