Yeah, that's a very sad part of the Fort McMurray Wildfire, some people had to go straight from the Oil Sands to evacuation and could not return home for ANYTHING, which in some cases included pets, some of whom were helplessly stuck in their home with no 'doggy door' or anything like that. After all, how well do you expect a 'doggy door' to help keep the warmth in from the -40 or -50 Celsius windchill outside when the only other thing available is a flimsy screen door made of glass and a bug-blocking mesh? I’m from the Okanagan and I’m heartbroken and 😢 for the folks that lost their homes. I also 🙏 for the safety & well-being of those displaced and evacuated but at the same token, grateful and appreciative of the first responders’ and firefighters’ efforts in saving lives and properties. Truly, 👍well done! I consider myself lucky as our home was not impacted as we’re just a few kms away from the evacuation alert/zone
Our private water truck was saving homes while the guys using it watched 30 government "firefighters" doing pushups in a group doing nothing to stop the fire. In the meanwhile the cops then started blocking the road and handing out citations and tickets for over load and the like to those evacuated, give your head a shake. Those people are brainwashed and have no idea what is going on.
So devastating. Heartbroken for all the people there who are evacuated, have lost their residences, etc. Bless the firefighters and the police, and all the volunteers who are assisting with this emergency. 🙏
I feel for you all best of luck. I almost lost my home in the Lake Fire of 2020 we were evacuated for 11 days and the first few none of knew if we were ever going home again. I sold it shortly after that to build a new homestead out of an extreme fire zone.
They sold the Marz bomber in 2022 let that sink in. In the Shuswap they did a 14km "backburn" made the fire a 1000 times worse and homes and businesses were lost.
Thinking good thoughts for our friendly neighbor to the North, Canada. Is there a place where someone from the US can send donations to those who have lost their homes? I love you Canada. My dad was a US gun jumper in Canada in WW II and served from 1939-1941 before returning to the US to fight with the USA.
The Okanagan has had fires for as long as I can remember. These ones creeping in to the cities are unusual. The man in the video is calm and reasonable. Stay safe!
Hopefully every person can stay safe! Lives are what matter - if the homeless can survive without property or material items, people will be fine. Even luckier if they have the means for a hotel or friends/family... but again, if the homeless can be on the streets, anyone can do it. Just have to feel positive about being alive and not worrying about unimportant things like propery or materialistic things.
There so many doors to knock on and a finite number of police to do it. I live in the Salmon Arm area and yesterday I got one of those emergency calls to my phone that blared to get my attention and offered the evacuation order for the Lee Creek/Scotch Creek area that said to evacuate immediately and the fact that two bridges were closed and directions out. They even had an address for a dock to evacuate by boat for those that were trapped between roads. If all areas did that they would have people already on the road safely before the police were even able to notify them. I won’t be without my phone in my pocket until Halloween. Please no fireworks.
I hope they are going door to door and letting pets out if the owners can't get back in to the neighborhoods. That would be better than nothing. So horrible.
