The ability to think critically could replace entire categories of knowledge that would be seen as obvious to anybody with sufficiently strong reasoning capabilities. The ludicrousness of believing the earth is flat, for example, would be rejected outright by anybody who understood a few basic facts such as the theory of gravitation, trigonometry and centripetal force and, by virtue of strong logical faculties, understands the relationship of these facts to one another and how they apply collectively to preclude a flat earth. In short- yes. Lol

The young man eager to please gave no thought, just blurted what he thought was best (hoping he would be recognized for a speedy response) and what his boss wanted to hear.

The quick responder often gains much credibility by the recipient, whereas the one offering a careful, deliberate response may be looked down upon as hesitant, lacking knowledge / expertise or plain indecisive. The critical thinker, however, may appreciate the deliberate response. Just thinking out aloud...

Columbus was trying to reach India! People have known the earth was round for thousands of years. There might have been flat earthers then (as there are now) but everyone with a shred of learning knew it was round.
Pretty much the best way to determine if someone is just claiming to be a critical thinker. A critical thinker would check if an argument he makes is actually true or just hearsay.
There were three other students in the group, not four other students (assuming all students that were in the group were shown, including myself -- after thinking about it critically). How can I believe anything else you said if you go this wrong! Just kidding. I was gonna say, "Great Summary of Critical Thinking" but then I thought critically about it and decided I had no great reason to believe it was a great summary of critical thinking. Instead, I will say thank you for your summary of critical thinking. PEACE

It turns out he actually said "Consider the claim made in the days of Columbus", and not necessarily that "Columbus sailed east", but rather that "ships sailing east from Europe..." I'm not sure if that was intentional, or a lucky play on words. But my brain registered exactly your words as well.
Nice video, thank you. However I cannot share it as the graphics and examples in two key places go against one of my critically reasoned beliefs and I see this as an attempt to subliminally squash an entire movement.

You decide for yourself what is right, and what is wrong. But the question remains, Will you decide correctly? And you decide what is right or wrong, based on what you believe is good, or bad.
