- Most of the new cars are no longer coming with a spare tire. The reason is to reduce weigh of the car and improve MPG. This video is a step by step instruction on how to use this kit in case you get into a flat tire. You can always call Kia Roadside Assistance for help as well. Their number is 800-333-4Kia.
I would rather have a spare than call roadside.
A lot better to have a spare then to call any road side assistant.
Would rather spend 15 to 20 mins changing a tire then waiting hours for roadside plus the expense.

It's not just KIA, most modern cars don't come with spare tire. I get no one is a fan but let's not just blame one company for this.

Of the 3 instruction videos I watched on how to use this kit, THIS one is the only one that was complete. I don't have a Kia but an Ecosport and have the same kit. Thank you for a VERY easy to understand and complete instruction video
Great video. Made it look easy and very doable. Also, felt like I was watching a safety demonstration before flight takeoff.
It will come in handy for some. I usually keep the least worn tire as a full size spare when I replace all 4tires. 👌
Well the tire kit worked for 5 seconds and blew a fuse, good thing was both plugs were on separate fuses. However the 2nd one also blew. 1 am on the side of interstate 95 nearest exit was 12 miles. 3 kids in the car and no spare. I called my roadside help from Kia's 7 hours on the side of the road.

I'm sorry, I'll take the lessened fuel economy and the piece of mind of knowing that my donut will get me on the road regardless of puncture size or location.
So I'm sitting in a Mexican restaurant in Henderson, NV waiting for the local Kia dealership to fix the flat tire on the Kia Soul my wife and I took delivery on less than 2 wks ago. I'm not upset about the flat tire, it happens. What I'm upset about is the fact that the Kia Soul does not come with a spare tire, not even one of those little, fake, donut spares. The Kia Soul comes equipped with a little, plastic, 'plug- into- the- dashboard' compressor and a container of 'Fix-a-Flat' goo.
So instead of spending the 30- 45 minutes it would have taken to change a tire and get back on the road. So far the experience looks like this -
-30 minutes figuring out how to use the 'Fix-a-Flat' contraption and realizing that it's not working
- 2 hours waiting for the tow truck to show up
-45 minute ride back to the nearest Kia dealership
- 30 minutes (so far) for the Kia dealership in NV to talk to the Kia dealership in CO to get the warranty information straightened out
- We'll see how long it takes for them to do the actual repair
I should be in San Diego right now, spending time with my wife. Instead, I'm eating a mediocre, over- priced Mexican lunch, waiting for my car to get fixed.
I say all that, to say this. This cheap, corner- cutting idea that Kia had for replacing spare tires with a glorified 'Fix-a- Flat' setup DOES NOT WORK!!! According to me, according to the tow truck driver that towed my car, and according to the service manager at the Kia dealership where there car was towed.
DO NOT BUY A KIA WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE!!!

Already used the can of crap. Now I'm stuck trying not to get ripped off by my local Kia dealer for a spare kit on a Sunday. This should be against the law. A car not coming with a spare tire is ridiculous and the salesman not telling you when you buy the car is a travesty. I'm surprised they didn't try to get another $250 out of me when I bought the car.
The amount of gas money you save will not offset the cost of being towed to a dealership to have your blowout replaced. A company's true motivation is always profit.
Buying a new car, paying new car payments & not being told a standard piece of equipment is no longer included...it’s a consumers nightmare. Even Ray Charles could see this ain’t right.

Word of advice, after you pull the car off to a safe place, be sure to put on the parking brake. Whenever working around tires, it's strongly recommended to engage the brake just in case the car somehow starts to roll. Also, I bought my wife a new Jeep and noticed the next morning that the vehicle had no spare tire but a similar kit like the one shown in the video. That same morning, I went to Discount Tire and purchased a full size spare just in case, this kit malfunctions or the damage to the tire is too extensive.

The sales asshole said he would "look for" my 2015 Kia Forte spare. And then told me it had none AFTER I signed the paperwork.
When I went to my old car/trade-in (2002 Impala) and got my stuff out, I made sure no one was looking and took the spare and jack.
I took a tire off my KIA today and tried the 02 impala jack and spare....It worked perfectly!
Not only will the goo not work on a sidewall puncture or blow-out, but it clogs the sensor and makes such a mess a tire shop won't fix the flat and you will have to buy a new tire.
I written a comment earlier about it's a inconvenience for the car owner having to use the tire mobility kit than having a spare tire. Well I forgot about my disability advanced pulmonary sarcoidosis. I only have half a lung and I can't lift anything heavier than five pounds nor do anything strenuous else I will get extreme shortness of breath,lethargic and malaise. So this kit is what I really need !!!!!

When you use this Mobility kit you can't have the puncher repaired properly and must buy a new tyre.
This is not in the instructions & is disgraceful.
If you don't believe me ask your puncture repair specialist before you get a Puncture.

I was outraged to find this kit of toys where a jack and spare tire should be. My wife and child were left stranded in the common and most easily remedied cause for a disabled vehicle. This vehicle came from the dealer like this-- i never thought I needed to check for a spare. Like a sick joke. Congrats on saving $20 in costs, KIA.
After getting a spare from a different KIA, I have learned the reason for this nonsense: the cute Styrofoam storage bin in a Kia Soul does not allow room for a spare with a jack on top. Screw it. Packed the jack and tools in with towels so the bin can fit. Somehow we have been trained to accept the expensive waste of car companies coming out with new models every year rather than just getting one right. I still have no idea what the giant eye hook is in the kit for.

so...the kit only work for a specific puncture, the sealant canister must be replace after one use, i need to check the tire again after a couple miles, in the end i must go to KIA service center to get the tire replaced. All of that to spare some gallons of fuel?
Not convinced. One of the reasons I bought my present car is that it had a full size spare wheel. Australia, where you can go over 500km between service stations let alone dealerships!
New Kia Optima with no spare.
Found this out the hard way this Sunday at 3pm when my Wife and 11 month old were stranded on the hwy with no spare tire in a 2013 Kia Optima SX. I went and picked them up and got them of the hwy and went back to change the tire but had nothing but a empty tire well. No jack no lug wrench, so back to the house to gather tools to try and take off the wheel with bad tire.. I'm pretty sure you can Imagine the Unbelievable headache trying to find a odd ball 18" tire to fit the wheel on a Sunday evening. We Had no idea the car didnt have a spare and were never told this from our Salesman. For what we paid for the car I cannot believe it wouldn't come with a spare. There isn't any cargo space to be had , So that isnt a excuse. The foam tray is there for the tire and under the trunk board. Oh sure my Dealer will sell me the tire kit...for $400! Whatever Kia. This is a bone headed move and I hope like Hell everyone realizes this and makes the Dealers install the kit before sale. If I would have known I wouldn't have driven it off the lot. And KIA, your little fancy Pump with preloaded goop doesn't do jack crap if you can stick your fist through the side wall. My 1 year old Ford Focus has a spare and its a $17k car...Whats your excuse? Thanks for nothing KIA.

Who would think you have to actually look for a spare tire in a new car.. When I bought my new Ford recently the salesman looked at me like I had two heads asking if it had a spare tire. "Of course it has a spare, Why wouldn't it" Exactly I told him.. The Kia salesman and sales manger told me after the fact to my face they are Embarrassed that the car doesn't have a spare and they constantly have to fend off the reasoning being it and loose money buying the $400 spare tire kit on their own dime to install in the car before they can make the sale.
Wife just bought a 2014 Hyundai Elantra and same thing no spare tire. We asked before we bought it and we all were like what no spare tire really. We plan on buying one and a jack. They expect you to call and not change it yourself. A few other companies are going to this as well.
They claim it improves fuel economy by saving weight. Shedding weight has all sorts of benefits, but you absolutely cannot get rid of emergency equipment. Tire sealant cannot fix many forms of tire damage. Large holes, sidewall damage, shredding, etc are all possible to have on a tire. What if you suffer a blowout and subsequently chew up the tire (happened to me), would the kit fix that?
The added weight of a spare is almost negligible considering the advantages. I'm sure they can find other things to get rid of to save weight and increase fuel economy.

Alright, thanks for the info. It's been a while so I have to see if my sealant canister hasn't expired. And one use only on top of that? Yeesh, seems like a spare tire's actually a better investment, as it can be re-used, and as long as the air inside doesn't leak, it won't expire quickly.
My daughter waited an entire day in Denton TX for “roadside assistance” from Kia. They never showed up.
glad it worked but damn. i’ve had so many issues w tires since buying my kia. first was a blow out. you can imagine how pissed i was to get out of my car and see there was no spare. only this little piece of crap kit that wouldn’t help me at all. TODAY, currently, i am using the kit because i got a flat last night. STILL WISHING I HAD A FREAKING SPARE. Changing the tire is much easier than this.

Call road side assistance (5 year 60k miles). If you are passed factory road side assistance , add it to your car insurance (cheap) or get a AAA membership. If you want to plug the leak yourself, get the Safety Seal kit off of Amazon (as long as the leak is not in the sidewall, which will require a new tire).

I found out at the WORST time that I didn't have a spare..... when I needed it at 6:30am on my way to work. I ended up missing a whole day of work trying to get it fixed because free road side only tows to the nearest delearship which is a rip off. I paid $135 for a NEW TIRE. Only $75 at walmart. I'm pissed they didn't tell me when I bought it

Yesterday I bought a KIA Forte. Tomorrow I will have to buy a spare wheel, a wheel jack, and a wheel wrench. On my old Ford Ranger pickup truck all of these ware included. :-(

My 2019 Kia Optima SX has a spare tire, no spare I wouldn’t buy.
Buy a spare donut tire, 2 ton floor jack and POWER 20 V Cordless Impact Wrench, 1/2 Impact Gun. Total cost $300. Total time to change a tire will be 5 minutes and you will never have to worry about calling a tow truck or becoming stranded ever again with a flat tire. These kit only work on small nail punctures. Sidewall punctures or any other type of tire failure will require one to change the tire.
Slime Tire Sealant and a portable 12 volt compressor will work perfect at an economical price.
I'm pretty sure that sealant destroys the tire from personal experience. I once bought a pre-owned car and didn't realize one of the tires had sealant in it. Every time I drove on the interstate, the steering wheel would start to shake like crazy. No one could balance the wheels properly.
A mechanic in a tire shop discovered the sealant and said that once you use it, the tire can't be balanced. I went back to the place that sold me the car, and the manager agreed to pay for 2 new tires, mounting and balancing, which I thought was fair.
So I'd like to know if this is the same type of sealant and if it can be removed. Who wants to buy a new tire if you get a flat?
Well I will say this lady explains it all very well but I don't like these kits I would rather carry a spare and a full size one preferably. That way you can interchange it with your others to even out tyre wear and you can drive at normal speeds once it's on. I don't think the reduction in fuel economy would be much and you've got peace of mind.
Spare will work no matter where the ruptured is on the tire. By the way if there is no cell signal good luck calling road assistance.

How many many miles does the sealant hold for? I just got a flat tire driving home, but the mobility kit luckily sealed the puncture and got me home!

A lot of good that does for a blow out
It's to improve their MPG rating, not because it's a better solution. A spare tire works every time, doesn't matter where the damage is on the tire, or how big the hole is. With this, it has to be a near perfect situation. Not to mention the tire is now out of balance from liquid sealant so when you get to the tire repair shop, a patch is not as good of an outcome. 5-7 minutes for the Chinese compressor to fill the tire? I would have already been done with a simple doughnut tire.
That would be a good idea if you were topping off the air in your tires, but won't help if the sidewall is punctured, or a downright blowout occurs. I'd still get a spare tire and tools, in fact, another regular wheel! Not only that, the fuel economy actually does not get better from not having a spare tire. I tried this on my Ford Escape, and the gas mileage did not differ, and I carry a regular wheel that matches the original wheels on my car! The doughnut it came with, well, I use it on my Wal-Mart bicycle.
My Kia is a second car for me. I too prefer a spare tire. I assumed all new cars came with one. My decision to buy the Kia might have been different. And I hate the thick blind spots.

@Glendale Kia. What's the lowest temperature this kit can work in?? Many places easily drops well below freezing in the winter. A puncture when it's -35C won't be fun.

even if pressure drops you should still atleast try to roll the tire some how to distribute the sealant BEFORE you call for assistance. Been there done that 100x
The main reason for the kit is safety, If you have a flat you use the kit or by the way Steve you can call Roadside and they will send someone out, to do it for you completely Free while under warranty. The safety behind it is, do you want to put on a doughnut that plainly states 35 MPH MAX SPEED and jump back in traffic or do you want to do something that is 3 times easier than changing a tire and jump back in traffic at normal speed with all matching size tires...... UMMMM let me think about that Wow! That's Great! ) Calm down all you helpless non reading men and Think before you Blog ;) Your making the rest of us look bad...
By the way if you have or had triple aaa youd know how long it can take. Why wait when you can change ur tire in 10 min and not have to depend on assistance. No thank you.

kia rio 2013, had a flat, in the middle of a blizzard, did everything the owners manual said by running the pump into the goop and into the tire. tire inflated, thought it worked, no goop came out and it pierced the sidewall. You know what works all the time? A spare tire. Stop with this cost cutting and get back to some actual value.

Show me how to use this mobility kit in the middle of Wyoming. 150 miles from anywhere, and with a full blowout or a cut sidewall. I can't even get it to a repair shop. The only option is to hope it is during the day, and you can call for a flatbed tow truck, or that you can somehow miraculously remove the tire with no jack, and no lug wrench to get to a town. This is just irresponsible of car manufacturers.

It is funny to read some of these comments.... You think it's just Kia that has these mobility kits? Check in the trunk of your Honda or Toyota.... Also, keep in mind that there is roadside assistance on these cars... I know it might be annoying to wait 30 mins for someone to come help you.. but whatever, right? **If its such a big deal spend the little bit of extra money and purchase a spare tire/donut. If you remove the foam crap in the back there is space for a spare. Some people prefer to save the extra money.. dont ruin it for them.

I just tried to pump up my tires with the included pump in my Kia, too bad the thread isn't the same size as the tire nub. I will just have to go to a gas station and pay to pump them up. :(
Good grief! This stinks! It would be much easier changing the tire with a spare than going through this crap...seriously! I am 61 years old and every car I have ever driven, owned, new or used had a spare tire and jack. I was shocked to discover my brand new 2019 KIA Soul did not have a spare tire. Had I not looked under the foam storage tray in the back of the car I would have not known this before buying because the salesman sure as hell didn't mention it. In fact he seemed embarrassed when I pointed it out and he explained it didn't come with one. And it is not just KIA doing this. The donut spares do not weigh enough to make any difference in mileage so, that is NO excuse. The car manufacturers are just cutting corners to save money for themselves. We all need to complain!
That sealant will cause your tire to be out of balance and vibrate. Why use it? Take the screw or nail out and use a plug. Much better way to fix a flat. You'll need a jack, lug wrench and plug kit..
Got a big screw into side of my tire and my genius miracle emergency kit was useless. All cars need to have a spare and it should be law that no car should be sold, new or used, without a spare.
agreed. I got a flat in my driveway, thankfully, and not out on the interstate. It was then that I discovered I had no spare or donut. I had to come to TH-cam to even figure out what the hell I had where my spare should have been. I can't imagine getting a flat in the rain on a busy road only to find out you only have some sealant that may or may not work...not even a jack.
A full-size steel wheel for a 2018 Kia Sportage will cost about $80 USD, new tire, $116-180, scissor jack and wheel wrench is $30 and $18 on Am*z*n, respectfully. It takes 30 min - tops. Is $250 worth the peace of mind to get it changed and on your way with absolute confidence? You'll know when you're in the middle of nowhere, you have horrible cell phone reception, and you "hope" this "Tire Mobility Kit" (aka: "slime" and electric pump) will do the job. If it's a sidewall tear, this will NOT work. Your insurance will probably cover the cost of a tow or change, but you will wait for HOURS and still pay deductable. Not to mention at the mercy of elements and anyone who chances upon you. Yes, you'll still have to get a new tire, and it'll look ugly until you change it ... but chances are you'll get a new pro-rated tire or simple FREE (puncture) flat fix at Discount Tire. Drive safe!

5:10 It's for deflating while it is turned off, like she says. To inflate, turn the compressor on and don't use the yellow button. At least that's how I understand it. Also yeah you probably don't need to know this a year later lol
Not having a spare may work in South Korea. But in the US it is a hassle. Shame on you KIA. My wife bought a KIA soul against my advice, and now I have to mod her vehicle just to fit a spare tire. This company is a joke!

Comeon Man. It's a Kia daily driver, not a McClaren P1 on a track. A spare tire and jack don't weigh that much.
I plan on going to discount tire. They'll sell you a steel rim and tire that fits the vehicle and we'll see if it fits the wheel well....more than likely it will according to my mechanic friend. If not maybe a donut. When tires go in the Arizona heat the entire rubber tread comes off. How does the goop fix that.....
Hyundai also has the ridiculously named tire mobility kit. I expected to see a wheelchair for my tire in the trunk.

Absolutely ridiculous. I just bought a Soul. Nice Car but no jack, no nothing. They want to make you as helpless as possible & rely on kia for everything. I think they forgot to provide me with sealant canister...

No jack and no tire iron and this works only for tiny holes and NOT if they are in the side of the tire - at least that's what the goo can says. Better shell out the $2-300 and get a spare with the kit.
