That point about Lars and his basic drumming is solved by his interviews in which he says Sad But True is his favourite song to play live. He made the realization that he loves a basic AC/DC Phil Rudd inspired beat when they made the Black Album. It was around that point he pretty much gave up on keeping up with technical Thrash drummers.
People bitch about Lars drumming all the time, but the fact is 99% of so called "metal" drummers today are just making noise and ruin song with way to much double kicks.
On this album it's tough to find a song that's my favourite every time I hear a new one off the album It's suddenly my favourite so that being said I just figured they can all be my favourite. :-) :-)
Metallica should do an animated movie inspired by one of their albums.:-) :-) and I don't mean some PG-13 crap. With the right director and animation they could pull it off and it could be a masterpiece like the movie Heavy Metal or go in the direction of Pink Floyd The Wall. Just a suggestion
Is Lars really capable of doing more? He’s been a clunky drummer his whole career. He has always been the ass kick that got the band where they are, but he is just a serviceable drummer, getting more basic as they go…
Lars has done some pretty cool stuff throughout his career as a drummer, he just decides to keep it few and far between, which in a way does make it a little more special when it happens.
No, it's death magnetic part 2. Song structures actually setting up something and expanding upon a core riff. Easily better than hardwired. This album has justice/death/reload all in one.
Guys, appreciate the video but this is a masterpiece and you talk about the cartoon instead of paying attention to the amazing riffs, vocals and arrangements
Totally agree on Lars, his lack of detail and flare or even the smallest of nuance from time to time is painfully obvious (felt the same for the last 15 years) His drumming is solid on this album just to be clear I'm not giving him a hard time.. lol love this song and really enjoying the album..

I just wish there was more melody. There are no big memorable choruses at all. I really want to like the album more than I do. Too Far Gone teases an amazing catchy chorus, then it just doesn’t happen. Ahh so frustrating. Just my opinion though.
Whatever you do, don’t watch the video for Too Far Gone. It’s the worst thing ever made. Literally just some kid flying around 3D models with a keyboard and mouse. Actually, do react to it, I would love to see what you have to say 😂

This song grew on me pretty quickly. Great video. Not quite as good as Room Of Mirrors but still pretty cool.

Same opinion. He's saved by good songs and production, but this is just about the most sub par I've ever heard from Lars. Loving the album though.
It's not what you personally want to hear it's what the fans want to hear and they're getting what they want to hear.
Mario Duplantier would fix the drum issue on this album.
