The reason why bar soap has a grippier texture than liquid soap

I used to think I was coo-coo bananas for thinking that bar soap had a "grippier" feel when handling compared to liquid soap.
Like liquid soap would just slide smoothly along my soft, supple, skin. But bar soap would scrap about like a brick of sandpaper. What's up with that?
