The reason why bar soap has a grippier texture than liquid soap

  • I used to think I was coo-coo bananas for thinking that bar soap had a "grippier" feel when handling compared to liquid soap.
    Like liquid soap would just slide smoothly along my soft, supple, skin. But bar soap would scrap about like a brick of sandpaper. What's up with that?

    btw this video-- particularly the bit at the end-- was inspired in part by "The Mars Room", the best selling novel by Rachel Kushner. In it, a character briefly talks about his love of using Irish Spring bar soap as "jerk lather".

    As another comment pointed out, my lemon's PH was a bit off... It doesn't really impact anything else in the video though!
