Your explanation was great! I’ve played this song live a few times and playing it again this next weekend and like you the first time I don’t think I realized how busy the kick was and simplified it quite a bit. When I listened again I realized all the kick action I was missing. It’s a super fun song with a lot of cool transitions and it’s a great song to master as it includes some 32nd note fills. 💪🏻
Thank you for breaking this one down, Mike. I'm a 3-years-young drummer and I have to play this live on Saturday and it's been making me anxious. "Break it down. Don't miss out the bit where you actually learn it." Great adive! I always try to rush through the learning and wind up missing all the cool nuances that made the drumming great, So I love the idea of going slow to fast to slow to learn it in my muscle memory ;) Will be following this along for 30 more times in the. next few days.
@@DrumsNRoses We had a blast, thank you for asking! I simplified it. I filled in for my son's band (he's the guitarist front and center). You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/PaJwA67suTQ/w-d-xo.html
This is incredible. Great work breaking this groove down. I always played it the way you mentioned it in the beginning of the video and am happy to bring a more full sound to this song. Thank you.
Thank you this vid helped me not just with this song but others too especially with the slow fast slow method and with time it felt natural to do the little end of the bar fill with the crash like my hands and foot gravitated to it
This is awesome, this has been my favourite song since I was about 14 n I’ve known how to play it on guitar n bass since then but always been hesitant to learn drums for it as it just sounds complicated n drums are my least learnt instrument! This really helped break it down n gave me ways to practice it one bit at a time! ❤🙏
Great video. Thanks. How are you getting such a great sound out of your kit? Are you going direct into a PA?I have a Roland T-27 and I'm struggling to amplify it properly.
Yeah, this one's a good challenge if you're just getting those faster kicks going. Playlist of bass drum videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLcfoni8UPb9rfMKiVUYJVO6C7lBcKZNvb.html

This is super helpful; I’m fully self taught and I mostly have to just look at what people do and replicate it but you actually explain it. thanks man

🤘
This a little bit hard for I have to make sure the bass drum goes in between the hi hats, and my right foot is already aching trying to do this...
