    I haven't even watched the whole video yet but right off the bat (and several times in the previous videos) you said "i'm not trying to win any beauty awards with this one". You know what, as with many things, when form follows function the result is beautiful, and this is no exception. From the half painted/ half ground down and tack welded exterior to the "just had it laying around" top handle and the electronics poking out, it almost has the look of something out of a sci-fi movie or something that was made decades ago and restored. I know it was not the intention, but I think it looks awesome. A fun build to watch along with!

    Wonderful job John for a "provisional testcase"! One suggestion though: I would replace the fiber based insulation of the heater wires through the bulkhead with a piece of glassfibre based circuit board material. The latter can withstand much higher temperatures.

    Plus, I have huge respect for the flawless mess in your shop. Well done, it's your place, your work, your style. Focus on what you care about and let the rest be, no need to be squeeky tidy to please PC TH-cam... Well done, sport !

      Caleb Borg it really isn't that difficult, all of the information to do this project is available online. You could research all of it and make this yourself very easily. This is an impressive video tutorial build along. I will agree. But anyone could do this if they did the research.

    Maybe it would have been a better idea to use a plastic power box instead of metal? Incase a wire ever comes loose? The camera was quite far back so I couldn't see if you ran an earth wire to the metal of the control box. Fantastic result by the way, it really looks stunning.

    What a great build! I just bought two of those damn things for our metal shop and they came with one brick and the surrounding is like wool stuff really cool but your forge is way bigger mine cost 350 each! Plus ours are gas burners not electric I like the electric better I may have to try to make one like yours soon I don't like the metal shop I'm a woodworker my nephew is the metal guy.

    Awesome build! I wanted to build a heat treatment oven since i started knifemaking. I wonder how even the temperature is inside the chamber and how accurate the temperature control is. For knifemaking 20 degrees C +/- or an uneven heat can make the difference between a letter opener and a 1000 dollar custom knife. A test video with accurate temperature measurements would be awesome!

    • @travismiller5548
      @travismiller5548 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anatol Stelzhammer the controller should be VERY accurate. it's running a bunch of calculus behind the scenes... but to be very accurate he would want to have the steel in the same horizontal plane and near the thermo... probably 100+ degree diffrence from bottom to top of kiln

    • @Keronin
      @Keronin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe he notes that it's 1900F, not C, not nearly high enough to melt Iron or even steel. But he could do aluminum or potentially even bronze or brass. Although if he was going to use it for melting metals for casting, he probably would have designed it differently, make more of a vertical oven with the opening on top. That way you can add more as the metals melt.
