- For Khanyisa Month, we now take a look at Bubi and her relationship with Sunshine!
Bubi has become one of Khanyisa’s most trusted mother figures in the herd, and accepted her unconditionally.
Our elephant care team were not sure how Bubi would react to meeting little orphaned albino calf, Khanyisa, as Bubi has never had strong relationships with many of the females of the herd.
She surprised us all - and showed her sincere love and tenderness from the very first day she was introduced to Khanyisa.
Bubi has become an integral part to Khanyisa’s rehabilitation and growth, together with Lundi, Tokwe, Kumbura and Timisa - all of whom have played strong roles helping her become the strong little elephant she is today.
It is a wonderful thing that you have created here Adine.

If I had to pick a favorite (no easy task) it would be Bubi . I love her independant and fiercely protective nature. Bubi will always have a special place in my heart :)

This is beautiful. The delicate music sums up how I feel about Bubi. I have a soft spot in my heart for her. She seems slightly fragile emotionally, and perhaps this is a positive trait considering her all encompassing love and care for Kbanyisa. Meisiekind must feel safe and loved in her company (she is so lucky--I'm sure this applies to her other mothers, too!). Such sweet pictures. 💕
I love the first picture of Bubi and Khanyisa where you can see Bubi's wonderful eyes and the longest eyelashes of the Herd Yes, our little miss Sunshine has been fortunate to have such dedicated adoptive mother Lundi and the two best allomothers Bubi who had a love at first sight and Kumbura Both of them are also orphans with a difficult past that they have turned into a success story Love is really flowing on our pink princess
Heartwarming footage! Love all the elephants of the jabulani herd. I think as Bubi is a little unsecure she understands the necessity of a little calf to feel secure and provides Khanyisa with all the love she can give. As far as I remember she was also a very good mother to Zindoga, her son. Thanks for this lovely video!

Their relationship is so touching and wonderful. Animals seem so direct and pure with their feelings. I am so happy they have each other to love. We love all of them, too...and those that care for them.

This was a beautiful and touching video of Bubi and Khanyisa. I often find myself asking where is Bubi? You've explained that Bubi has been through so much in her life and she may be wary of certain situations, but she has been a loyal allomother to Meisiekind and I just love her to pieces. The music and commentary in this video were just great. Thanks so much Adine and Carers.

One of the most emotional videos with the perfect music and captions! I wonder if Bubi took on the allomother role with the purpose of moving up in the hierarchy as you have mentioned she was mostly on the outs with the cows of the herd. I've read that lower-ranked elephants within a herd have been observed to take on allomothering duties in order to gain favor with the matriarch. I would not be surprised that elephants with their large cortical cortex and complex societies are capable of such purposeful intention.
Beautifully done! The story is so heart warming. I can’t help but wonder if what her herd might of been was ever spotted? How many herds around that area are there? Much gratitude for all who care for her and the whole beautiful herd.

Lundi was introduced as Khanyisa’s adoptive mother but Bubi chose her right from the beginning. It was, and is so beautiful to see. All the other allo mothers stepped up later, much to Bubi’s distress, but she was first. That’s how I fell in love with our beautiful Bubi. ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦

A dream of a special place where a terrified injured or weak baby elephant could find healing and peace and eventually a family to love them again as they once were loved and cherished. You made that come true through perseverance and hard work. The elephants certainly owe you much but we too, complete strangers who will probably never meet you owe you so much. The joy you have given us allowing us to visualize your dreams come true is limitless. Thank you does not come close but it is all we simple humans can say to you. Maybe if we could speak like the elephants do, through deep powerful rumbles and infrasonic waves we could truly express the feelings from our souls. Until then thank you!

What an awesome video and if I may say, this darn video does prove that animals of any species does feel emotions and they also most certainly feel love either it be towards their own little one or an adopted animals and yes, they too also feel emotions for humans too, I have seen it more times then not. Look what they did for Fishon and how he trusted them to take care of his leg. The next time someone tells me that an animal doesn’t feel emotion, or even love, I surly will tell them they a full of crap!! Thanks to Bubi for taking sweet Khanyisa as one of her own or the Carers and Adine would have had a lot of work to do even though they did do the bottle feedings and still do for Khanyisa. I truly thank you Bubi for loving this special girl and most definitely also staying with her wherever she is to keep a safe eye on her too. Aside from Lundi I think Bubi has one of the strongest bonds with Khanyisa among the adult females and what a beautiful bond they share Bubi has such a tender nurturing soul. All she wants is to share her love with any babies that need her she understands that sense of worry and fear of missing the protection and security due to losing her own mother;she wants to ensure Khanyisa knows she’s safe and loved. Bubi absolutely has been an essential part of helping Braveheart bloom into the confident sassy girl we all love she’s an exceptional mother who has a very special spot in my heart. Some of my favorite videos are watching Meisekind and Bubi together I tear up seeing their precious sweetness thank you for highlighting these moments between them.❤️❤️🐘🐘☀️☀️
