I was honored to ask to officiate one of my best friends daughter wedding. Nervous about it but they knew I was not a professional when asked. They have faith in me, never done anything like this. Thank you for these very informative videos.
Such an honor to be a part of someone's wedding. I guess they think you have the goods. :) And who knows, you nail this wedding, you may have to quit your job and do this full-time!
Thanks a TON for this - I wouldn't have thought to memorize the opening, that's such a great idea. I'm doing my first wedding Saturday and am freaking out because I know I'll have to read most of it. But this will help set the stage - lifesaving tip! Thanks!!
Knowing about making general announcements BEFORE the procession is very helpful. I needed to coordinate my script with the DJ. So having him turn on the microphone for me is huge.
Thanks for the tips! Do you have any advice for those weddings where the DJ has already told everyone to unplug and stay off their phones? I'm trying to think of ways to start without having to say that blurb haha.
I personally love warming up the crowd before the ceremony. If I don't know anyone in the audience I'll make small talk - I'll ask where people are from or maybe make a joke about the weather. People are usually happy to engage with you. Many of them are as excited as you to be there and want to share in the magic of the moment. I've done silly things like poll the crowd by a show of hands who wants a 15 minute ceremony vs. a 45 minute ceremony. I've asked groups who they think is going to make the biggest spectacle of themselves at the reception, etc. You could have a quick anecdote ready about the couple to share with the audience. Something cute and sweet about them that maybe the audience doesn't know. Maybe you could share with the audience why you were chosen to officiate. Before the ceremony you can also make other general announcements - "Ladies and gentleman, right after the ceremony we are all going to gather on the lawn for a group photo" or "After I announce the couple, under your chair is a small bottle of bubbles, please have those out and ready so that when they walk down the aisle you'll all blanket them with bubbles!". Or try, "Good afternoon everyone, we are just moments away from getting started. I'm super excited to be here and it is great to see all of you! I wanted to thank the DJ for stealing my thunder about turning off your cell phones. But since we haven't started the ceremony yet, if any of you would like to get one last picture of me, now's your chance! But seriously, we should be underway in a few moments, so I hope you already grabbed a drink from the bar. Thanks and enjoy the show!" Hope this was helpful and have fun with it. :)
I am officiating a friends wedding this coming December and would love to connect with you on the processes and procedures. What’s the best way to get a hold of you?
I see most of these comments are from a year ago or so, Im late to the party I guess but... lol. I have the honor and absolute privilege of doing MY SONS wedding.. 😢😢. How the hell im I going to get through that one?? Now my son knows how much I love him and im a softy for my wife kids and dogs im afraid Im going to melt like make up on a drag queen... I have my ceremony written out and practicing everyday I still have 1 month to go.. 10/31/23... what do i do??
Hello! That is awesome to hear about you getting to perform your son's wedding! If you are a crier like me you are in big trouble! :) Sounds like you are going in well prepared so really all you need to do is enjoy every second of this time leading up to the big day and be completely present at the wedding instead of worrying about the ceremony. You got this!
@theweddinglab2665 I would like to send my script to someone professional to read it and double check that its ok. Its only 14 minutes long start to finish, or so it should be.. I know you are a busy man but would you mind reading it??
Why would you want hell to do with a wedding, please repent or you are of the devil. Make a wedding about heaven not hell, unless your a child of the devil like the Bible says there’s no in between, you belong to heaven or hell
Dude I'm laughing my a$$ off... this isnt about the bride and the groom, its about YOU putting on the performance of a lifetime! This guy rocks.
Fo sho...the bride and groom are just props in your performance! Lol
