  • Knife defense is a very scary situation, but the more training you have, the better prepared you can be if a knife attack ever happens to you. Here, Ryan Hoover of Fit to Fight demonstrates some knife defense techniques and strategies.

    Pepper spray combined with running is truly your best follow up, and a overlooked option

    I love to see the flashy techniques of traditional martial arts, but I think this is the kind of stuff that is practical.

    One of my old instructers was attacked by somebody who tried to pull a weapon (probably a screwdriver). He simply punched him in the face and ran off. That is probably the most functional knife defense out there.

    Nobody fights against a man with a knife without getting stabbed or cut. You ahould be teaching how to control that knife and directing the stab/cut and then controlling that blade rather than all these overly complicated martial arts techniques.

      "You should be teaching how to control that knife and directing the stab/cut and then controlling that blade"
      That's exactly what he taught watch the video again bud he literally taught to block the stab while simultaneously redirecting the knife away from your body and off your center line and to than get a Russian two on one grip with good head position while throwing knees and head butts.
      "Rather than teaching All of these overly complicated martial arts techniques"
      none of what he taught was "overly complicated martial arts techniques" every thing he taught was very basic Greco-Roman/free style wrestling and very basic mauy thai.
      You obviously know nothing about knife defense or even martial arts in general but seem to think you know everything just like a typical keyboard warrior.

    I don't know Man. It's nice of you to show techniques but unless you been practicing them for years if not decades the best thing normal people can do is run. I believe you could defend yourself against a knife attack even with all the factors around it, you possibly have decades of martial arts / self defense experience but the average person even those that do some martial arts for some years, it is just too risky.

    • @Mendrawza24
      @Mendrawza24 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's literally all self-defense moves. Like, no techniques exist that are going to be 100% doable without practice. You have to practice them. The average person who won't put in time to practice these likely doesn't practice sprinting or running of any kind, is not likely to outrun an attacker either. Further, there's also the possibility of a jumping, a surprise attack where the knife isn't out until the last second and you're in the second situation in this video with a threat to your neck. Running is not an option in those scenarios. At the end of the day, everything is training. So pick what you wanna do: train some moves consistently, or train sprints and awareness consistently. The best is to train both.

    there is running and nothing else... there is no point in playing magic. only a really good fighter can resist against a knife.

    What prevents you from passing the knife from your right hand to your left while the suicide is holding the attacker’s right hand with both hands?

    • @landenjones9374
      @landenjones9374 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok you probably won't believe this and that's totally fine.
      But the real answer is in 99.9 percent of real knife attacks the attacker doesn't switch knife hand's because of stress and adrenaline.
      And before you ask why people switch knife hand's in training it's simple because they're in a controlled environment where the risk of death or serious injury isn't really a concern. Now I'm not saying that knife hand switches don't happen in real attacks because they most definitely do but there just extremely rare and are usually accidental like I said believe it or not.

      @@landenjones9374according to armchair violence this is Not exactly true. They tend to Not Switch hands cause they don't have to Most of the time.

      @landenjones9374 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thibautklinger5178 yes that could be part of it but stress and adrenaline still play a huge part in it considering knife switches happen all the time during training but almost never happen in real knife attacks.
      but either way it's still like I told the other guy knife switches do happen but there just very uncommon

      @@landenjones9374 armchair found 6 cases in 215 analized cases. And there were No cases where the attacker could and should have changed hands but did not. So I am Not Sure how this Claim started and where it came from but I am Sure it IS Not accurate.

      @landenjones9374 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thibautklinger5178 again I'm not saying that knife changes happen all the time because they don't but they still do happen.
      Also I wouldn't trust armchair violence when it comes to anything outside of sport fighting because he tends to caricature things he criticizes and uses a lot of strawman arguments to try and prove his point and he's also not a "self defense expert" just a sport's fighter.
      Plus he just always has this smug condescending cocky demeanor that just makes him unbearable to watch and if I'm being honest I find Armchair violence to be a pretty soft ass dude I mean there's no footage of him actually competing in combat sport's or even just sparing for a reason you know.
